Weeze Where to stay?
Posted: Thu July 17, 2008 01:03 PM UTC
I will be flying into Weeze on 28 January-2 February 09 and I am aware that the town of Weeze is quite small so we do not wish to stay there. However, we would like to stay in a larger town that is convienient for visiting attractions in the local area. We do not care if this is in nearby Holland or further into Germany. It would be more suitable if the travel time is no longer than 50/60 minutes by train!

Thanks in advance.

Cologne Is the city center walkable from the train station?
Posted: Sat July 12, 2008 07:18 PM UTC
We'll be off to Cologne in a few days time and I wonder if the city center is walkable from the train station.
Is it practical to buy the "Welcome Card" that costs €9 or just a 24-hour transport card?

Also, has anyone already stayed at the Classic Harmonie Hotel at the center of Cologne? Any reviews?

Tips for this trip will be appreciated.

Thanks.

Bonn Soviet Bar
Posted: Sun June 15, 2008 05:35 AM UTC
I lived in Bonn a couple of years ago, and my friends and I used to visit a bar that was across the street from the Bonnsch that was called something like the Soviet, or something like that. It was a great bar, and they had a beer that came in a white can that we refered to as a "Weisse Bar" that I haven't been able to find anywhere else. Has anyone been there? Does anyone know what it that beer is called? Thanks.

Düsseldorf Music Venue - Indie Guitar Pop
Posted: Sat May 3, 2008 07:01 PM UTC
I'm in Dusseldorf soon on business and whilst I'm there would like to check out a few bars that might be up for hosting a live music evening sometime soon....

As a sideline I am involved with 3 marvellous young up and coming UK indie guitarpop bands and would like to put on a music night in a Duss bar...

Any recommendations on bars that might be worth checking out... nearer to the altstadt the better... I had some awesome nights out there in my teens (20odd yrs ago now...

All ideas gratefully recieved...........

Cologne Where to stay near Maritim Hotel in Heumarkt? (or with easy access to it?)
Posted: Mon April 28, 2008 10:53 AM UTC
Hello everyone,

I need to go to Maritim Hotel on Heumarkt street every day for a few days when I visit Cologne. I want to find an alternative 2 or 3 star hotel near Maritim Hotel (which has 4 stars). It may even be a bit further away from Maritim, as long as there is easy public transportation between the two, such as a bus connection. Does anyone have a recommendation for such a hotel?

Thanks,

Hakan

Aachen Getting to Aachen
Posted: Mon April 28, 2008 07:06 AM UTC
Hi!

I wanted to know how can one get to Aachen from Bonn. while taking the train, one has to apparently, change the train twice. in this case, would it be better to take a bus?

Also, the tourism section there has a "casual programme" to cycle from Aachen to Maashtricht. Has anyone taken that? If so, what is the cycling like? is it difficult? I dont cycle regularly... so would that be a problem?

Apart from this what else should one do in Aachen for say a day?

Looking forward to your inputs!!

Thank you

Land Nordrhein-Westfalen Any tips for events or destinations for a family visiting Apr 24 - Apr 30?
Posted: Mon April 7, 2008 01:24 AM UTC
Later this month we will be travelling to Holland and staying in Nijmegen for a week. The family consists of ourselves (two adults and a girl, 16 and a boy 13) and my parents. We will have a rental car. Since Germany is just across the border, can anyone recommend some events in that last week of April? I've looked at many VT pages and have in mind to visit Xanten, for example. Perhaps we will travel as far south as Monschau and Trier, but not for sure yet.

Can anyone advise us on the pool facility called GochNess in Goch? Their website has no English translation but it seems there will be a Maybaumfest event there... is this worth attending? Will we need reservations for it? Are there any other Maybaumfests in the area (but still in the month of April)?

Also, my parents will be flying out of DUS the morning of May 1 and we want to drop them off at a train station that will take them directly to the airport. I've found a direct train using bahn.de from Wesel to DUS. Is it recommended that I purchase tickets online for them in advance, or will they be able to take a 07:00 train by purchasing in person at the counter (will this train be sold out? or will the price increase?) Does the Wesel train station have parking so we can make sure they're okay before leaving?

By the way my parents speak Hollandse... this may help...

I will post in the Netherlands forum as well...

Thank you in advance for your ideas!

Cologne driving & parking
Posted: Wed April 2, 2008 03:20 PM UTC
Planning a day trip driving to Cologne for Sunday, April 27 but was wondering what kind of traffic problems I may encounter?

We'll be crossing the Rhein on the Zoobrucke/55a; and then coming down the Konrad-Adenauer-Ufer; hope to park somewhere near the Hauptbanhof.

How heavy is the traffic on a typical Sunday?
Is the 27th a typical Sunday (nothing special which may cause traffic problems)?
Any other advice or tips would be much appreciated.

When I visited Cologne 2 years ago, I remember seeing a wonderful shop where there were many different kinds of empty bottles that you could fill up with different olive oils.

Can anyone tell me what the shop is called and if they have a website?

I found the timetable of the Veolia-operated Bus No.50 from Aachen to Maastricht in the Netherlands. Does anybody know the price for the travel? I tried looking it in the AVV website, but they do not show the international prices.

Thank you very much for your help.

Düsseldorf DUS transportation info needed.
Posted: Wed March 5, 2008 09:13 PM UTC
We will be flying into DUS for a weekend and have found a Mercure Hotel near DUS airport for only 20 Euro per night.
My question is:
Is it easy to get to the city and back from the airport?
Are there passes for the metro/train?
Should we take this low price and deal with the transportation or pay 100 Euro and be in the city?

Thank you so much!
