Hello !
Please tell me how to get to Palmaria Island (Terrizzo) from Portovenere (or from La Spezia). It seems to me that www.navigazionegolfodeipoeti.it doesn't offer any ferry which stops at Terrizzo.

TIA

Is there public transportation to the Carrara Marble fields? If so, how do we connect with transportation? We would prefer not to rent a car to do the Marble fields and tours seem very expensive. Please advise.

Is it possible to stopover in Pisa on the way to Florence? i.e. stay there and get on a later train? How much time should you allow yourself in Pisa? I know it depends on how much you want to see and/or do, but is it worth half a day?

Also I am having trouble with the trenitalia website, when I put in destinations it comes back with no matches. Any hints?

I have booked seven days to walk the Cinque Terre and am planning on flying in to Genoa, spending a day there, catching a train to Portofino and spending a day and then to Levanto to spend a few days walking the coastal path before catching the train to Pisa to fly home. Two questions: Does this sound a reasonable time frame? And will it be easy to travel by train during the Easter week? (Looking at the Rail Europe website it seems that trains go twice an hour...)

Thanks for all of the input. Some great ideas.
I checked out the site for train travel. I am not sure if reservations are required or not but I did fine times into Vernazza. Can you buy the tickets right at the station, or do you need them ahead of time. I also understand that you can get a pas for Cinque Terre trains. Are they available right there, as well?
Our ship docks in Genoa at 9 am, so we should have no trouble getting a train.
Overnight in Vernazza, check out the next day and travel to La Spezia or to Monterosso to secure our luggage and then go back through the towns. Is that feasable? We would then carry onto Florence.

We are disembarking from the cruise ship in Genoa. We have a one night reservation in Vernazza. We want to spend a short time in the Cinque Terre.
Where can we store our luggage outside of our reservation time? Is there any train station where we can store our bags? Is it easy enough to take the train between the 5 towns? We also want to carry on to Rome via Pisa and Florence. Where is the best place to get a train schedule. I have tried Italia Rail and cannot find a train into Vernazza. Can we take the train to Florence with a stopover in Pisa (again being able to store our luggage?)
Thanks

I read in a guide book that one can take a boat from La Spezia to Cinque Terra or from one of villages of Cinque Terra to La Spezia. We are arriving on cruise boat in La Spezia at 0800 hours and cruise leaves La Spezia at 2000hours. What would be the best? take a train from La Spezia in the morning? -need local train time table as very difficult to get time table in trainItalia site. and return by ferry-boat (local to La Spezia in the evening if time permit) Need the local ferry service name, where availble- how far from cruise port etc. Would greatly appriciate having some information

How difficult is it to get to the Spezia Main Train Station from the cruise ship ports? We are 4 seniors - in decent shape - and want to purchase train ticket to the Cinque Terre towns this November. Can we walk? How long would it take? Are there taxis by the cruise port or is this a waste of $$ ? How difficult is it to purchase a round trip ticket and Cinque Terre card at the station? I tried to find train schedule using next week's dates on the internet using links posted in this forum, but I could never get to the schedules (Departure: La Spezia Main Station and Arrival: using Genova, Monterosso al Mare, etc and I kept getting an error message for no such destination.) HELP

We're going to Cinque Terre in mid October 2010.

We want to leave our car outside of Cinque Terre, because it seems as if the drive to Monterossa is very difficult by car. It seems from other postings that parking for three days in La Spezia is not easy to find. It also looks as though driving to Levanto, coming from La Spezia, is another hour or two drive.

Does anyone have any suggestions for us? All we want to do is park our car safely outside of Cinque Terre. We're willing to pay for a garage to keep our car safe. What we don't want is a huge hassle.

So: specifically: how long would it take to drive from La Spezia to Levanto? One hour? Two? Three? Is it worth the drive just to easily find a place to park our car safely?

We'd appreciate any feedback! Thanks in advance.

We will be in La Spezia on May 11. We cannot decide between a shore excursion to Florence which requires a long ride to get to it or to see the coast of Cinque de Terre. Both seem so great we cannot decide. We would appreciate any advice.

Hello,

I am thinking about renting a car in La Spezia and driving to Rome. Seems like it would be romantic/beautiful to drive along the coast. I have heard that driving in Italy (especially around Rome) is more stressful than anything but I am hoping that this is not true.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

Cheers,
-Fin

We hope to stop in La Spezia for a few hours on our way from Pisa to Cinque Terre. Does anyone know if there is luggage storage available at the La Spezia Centrale train station?

Is La Spezia a nice place to stay to visit Cinque Terre? Are there trains from La Spezia to the five cities? Are there in La Spezia a nice and no very expansive hotel?

We'll be arriving this summer on Saturday at about 3:00 and will need to get supplies for our apartment on Saturday or Sunday -- any tips on the best places for Saturday afternoon or Sunday? We'll be staying in Manarola but can get to La Spezia, any of the 5 towns or Levanto easily. Thanks.

Hi, My husband and I will be traveling to Vernazza, from Florence on September 22nd. We are planning to take the train from Florence to La Spezia, but we would like to travel by boat from La Spezia to Vernazza.

How do I get a boat schedule? Do we need a reservation on a boat, or just show up? Is it too far to walk with our suitcases from the train station to the boat docks? Thank you for your help and advice.

If I had a flight out of FCO at 1115,is it possible to get there by train or could I get a van or driver to take my family? If it is possible on the train, could you give me a website and schedule, I do not know which train I would take. Also, what would the price be? Is there a car service and how much would it be? Should we leave at 5 in the morning or leave the day before and stay in Rome? This would be August 12, 2009. Thank you.
