Goa Home @ Patnem
Posted: Thu November 5, 2009 10:22 AM UTC
Hi,

Off to Goa next Feb 2010 and staying at Home beach bungalows in Patnem. Has anyone stayed there before and can tell me what is like ? Most reviews I've read have been positive. Also can you name some good eateries on the beach? We are seafood mad so can't wait to get there ? Are there any ATMs nearby also ? Oh and how much is a large Kingfisher beer !!

Cheers ;-)

Delhi Fog in January mean visiting Delhi & Rajasthan a big mistake?
Posted: Wed November 4, 2009 02:12 PM UTC
Have already purchased plane tickets for 17 day trip, now starting to worry that fog will prevent us from driving (with a car service & driver) and seeing the sights and the Taj Mahal! Is the fog a daily, daylong problem?

Goa Weather in Goa nest 2 weeks......rain???? Argh!!!
Posted: Wed November 4, 2009 08:34 AM UTC
Hi All,

I'm flying out to Goa tomorrow, staying in Calangute, Palmarinha. I've been a couple of times before to Baga and Arpora, in Feb & April a few years back....glorious sunshine! Thought the weather would be good in November....but just checked the forecast and there is supposed to be rain, storms and more rain for the foreseeable future...according to BBC weather.

Is anybody out there already - is it likely to be raining the whole time, or just a few showers? What's the locaL WEATHER REPORT SAYING? I have never seen it rain in Goa before - was really looking forward to some much needed sunshine. Is it likely to be heavy rain?? :0(

Kolkata (Calcutta) Calcutta this November
Posted: Tue October 27, 2009 12:19 PM UTC
Hello!

I am coming to Kolkata towards the end of November and I´m very excited to finally get to this great city. I will be there for a week or so and wanted to know if there is any particular hostel/hotel that is good for lone travellers for meeting people etc?

While I am there I am hoping to do some yoga.. I haven´t really ever done any so i´d like to do an introductory course does anyone know any good places in the city?

I will also be there to sample to beautiful food on offer... the most i possibly can.. mostly the street food I am really interested in.. can anyone recommend any particular places I could go? yum yum!

Also.. from Delhi is it best to book the train in advance (on say the 24th NOvember?) Or should i just rock up at the train station ? (which Delhi train station?)

any other must dos in Kolkata while I am there?

sorry for all the questions and thanks in advance for any help!

India Difficulty Planning This One
Posted: Mon October 26, 2009 09:19 PM UTC
I am attempting on planning a trip for me and my husband in February. We plan to arrive in Delhi and I would like to see as much as possible in Rajasthan. Jaisalmer looks like it is awsome and I do want to ride a came at sunset followed by some sort of entertainment. I also need info on the best transportation for each place in Rajasthan and tips on where to go. I also woud like to go to the rat temple and ride Elephants in the jungle. At the end of the trip I would ike to spend the last 12 days on the beach somewhere warm with cam water to float on my float and my husband likes to snorkle. We will fly out of Dehi on March 5 and I would like to see the Taj Mahal somewhere in there. Aso I am having difficulty finding info about massages. Are the common? What are the typical cost? I went to Thailand a coupe of years ago and fell in love with the massages. And are they al done by men? I am not sure my husband would like that :).Any help would be appreciated. I have so many trave books on india--and we will be on a budget.

New Delhi Accomodation in North India
Posted: Sun October 25, 2009 12:40 AM UTC
Hi guys,

As the saying goes, I'm an ABCD, American Born Confused Desi :)

I'm planning my second trip to India and would like to ask for recommendations on the places I've decided to stay at.

1) Delhi : Caravan Homestay: http://delhicaravan.com/

2) Agra : Howard Park: http://www.parkplaza.com/agrain/

3) Jaipur : Thaltara http://www.thaltara.com/

Please let me know if these are good places and would suit a single girl. I've tried a couple of homestays with a hotel in between to take a break in Agra. I'm really interested in being with an Indian Family. The choice was also because of my pet dog I'll be taking along (These locations allow pets).

I've contacted them and they seem to be friendly and have good reviews on tripadvisor too. Also, how much deposit is required to block your room in India?

State of Sikkim Gangtok or Pelling?
Posted: Fri October 23, 2009 06:02 AM UTC
Is Gangtok really worth it?

I am mostly interested in nature and scenery, and since I am not an Indian citizen, cannot travel to Tsoka Lake and the pass. I am traveling from Darjeelnig to Sikkim for 4 days in early January, so I was thinking about visitng Pelling and Yuksom and possibly trekking for a day or two around there.

Any suggestions?

State of Sikkim Short treks in west Sikkim
Posted: Fri October 23, 2009 05:59 AM UTC
Can folks who have trekked in West Sikkim please provide more details for short treks, as details are very limited in guidebooks and online, specifically related to the following treks:

1. Yuksom - Tsokha - Dzongri and onwards
2. Maenam Hill
3. Tendong Hill
4. Monastary loop/Tashiding
5. Singalila range

It would be very helpful to all if people who have done these treks provide information about them in this thread, so that this info is available to all in the same place. Please post your experiences below.

I plan to visit W Sikkim in early January for only 4 nights, and was hoping to do a couple one day treks or a 2-3 day trek.
-Is it worth it to trek only from Yukson - Tsoka and back in two days? What about Yukson - Dzongri and back in 3 days?
-Is there any way to avoid going to Gangtok to get a permit if you want to do a Yuksom trek?
-How do Maenam Hill and Tendong Hill compare to the Yuksom - Tsokha or Yuksom - Tsokha-Dzongri treks?
-There is plenty of discussion about the treks with the best mountain veiws, but what about other nature? How do the treks #1-5 above compare in regards to local scenery and wildlife?
-For people who are interested in real trekking, is there any point in doing the Monastary loop trail, or is this just a casual walk? How is the scenery here compared to other nearby treks?

Goa Chorao in Goa
Posted: Thu October 22, 2009 11:09 AM UTC
I'm planning a trip in December for about 5-6 days, and found listings for this island which I've never visited before. We've been to Goa several times, so I'm not desperate to see the markets and beaches - perhaps a beach on one of thedays would be nice.

I'm told by my travel agent that the ferry connection is really bad and I will spend 2 hours travelling each way if I want to go into town (apparently the ferry moves only when full).

While I don't want to party in town, I don't want to be marooned on the island either in case we have a medical situation or some such emergency. Not sure I should trust the travel agent because he doesn't get any commission on this one, but then I haven't heard of this island before either so I'm not sure.

If anyone on this forum knows just how difficult it is really, and shares the info, it will be really helpful.

Thanks

I'm travelling to India in December and we want to get from Rishikesh to Varanasie, does anyone know if there is a day or overnight train we can get or a bus and not have to return to Delhi first to get to Varanasie? I know the main transport link for Rishikesh is Haridware. The agent i'm using has said there are not trains from Haridware to Varanasie.
