Pak Tam Chung accommodation around Pak Tam Chung
Posted: Sat November 7, 2009 11:18 PM UTC
I generally come to HK for a holiday every year and have been meaning to spend some time at Pak Tam Chung (PTC). Can anyone advise me if there is accommodation there/nearby that is reasonably affordable? Also, how about the general accessibility to the MTR. I am looking at a few days in the month where I can go to a rural setting, talk walks and photographs of a more "natural" and unspoilt area of HK...
Any advice is welcomed...especially from someone living in the locality...

Hong Kong Dim Sum
Posted: Sat November 7, 2009 03:06 PM UTC
Would like some recommendation of good and reasonably priced restaurants that serve dim sum. Ideally located within walking distance to a MTR. Would appreciate if you can also let me know roughly how much it will cost per person. Thanks.

Hong Kong Question re: The Peak
Posted: Sat October 31, 2009 03:14 PM UTC
1) I'm planning to do one of the Nature walk. Which is better, Mount Austin Road, Victoria Peak Garden, HK Trail, or the Pok Fu Lam Country Park? Time is no problem, I'm not in a rush.

Hong Kong free wifi in Hong Kong..
Posted: Sat October 31, 2009 02:39 PM UTC
I'll be going to Hong Kong this week, and I was wondering if there are any free wifi, specifically in the areas of: (cafes or restaurants are okay)

1)Avenue of Stars
2)Causeway Bay, maybe Times Square or Fashion Walk?

We're just staying in a hostel, and although they have free wifi, it doesn't always work.

Thanks!

Hong Kong Buying womens clothes for larger sizes
Posted: Mon October 26, 2009 08:09 PM UTC
Hi,

I am definitely not petite, and take an Australian size 14 to 16. I was wondering if there is any special place I should concentrate on clothes for someone my size as the smaller Asian makes don't fit me. I will be in Hong Kong 6th November for six days. I also was considering have a black work jacket made up but wonder where to go and if it is really saving me much money. So if anybody can give me a guess at how much they think that would cost I would be very appreciate for your time.
Thanks

Hong Kong Hong Kong weather now and what to pack
Posted: Sun October 25, 2009 11:35 PM UTC
HI fellow v-ters, i'll be heading over to HK next week. Just wondering what is the temperature now like? Weather reports say that it is between 24-29.. how accurate is this on the island itself? So all i need is a light, thin sweater for night time? What if i go to victoria peak at night? do i need to pack a thick jacket or no need? also, do you think it is too cold to wear open toe sandals, or are covered shoes a must to prevent my toes from freezing... or is it warm now? thanks!!

Hong Kong Transport from Airport to Hotel
Posted: Sun October 25, 2009 06:09 AM UTC
I will be traveling to HK in late Nov with my family. (total of 2 adults and 3 children age between 4 and 10). Will be staying at Holiday Inn Causeway Bay. Which is the cheaper option to get to the hotel? I'm thinking of the below.

1) Take airport express to central and then take a taxi
2) Take a taxi from airport to hotel

Can someone tell me what is the estimated cost for both options and which is more adviceable.

Hong Kong Hotel in HK - Where? And weather
Posted: Fri October 16, 2009 09:11 AM UTC
Hi all,

My husband & I will spend 4 nights in Hong Kong in March. What part of Hong Kong should we get a hotel in? We want to be close enough to enjoy the tourist attractions & even the nightlife. Our budget is ca. $130 per room per night, can we get a nice room for this price?

Also, how will the weather be in March?

Many thanks,

Hong Kong Help with packing
Posted: Mon October 12, 2009 08:38 PM UTC
Hi,

We will be in Hong Kong for 6 nights but have to seriously try to organize our cases as we will also visit KL (hot humid) and Beijing (cool). With hubby needing to take medical equipment weighing 3 kg we need help in trying to reduce our luggage. I'd like to know if casual clothes are ok for most places in Hong Kong. Not expecting to go too fancy with restaurants. I'm thinking maybe cotton long pants and t-shirts? maybe a light jacket or do we need to take something more dressy like skirt and top for me? I'm thinking I'll just buy things like shampoo conditioner there to reduce the luggage. Are there any other ideas other than just trying to pack things that mix and match? It's taken me a while to realise I dont need to take my hair dryer and hair tongs. Just wash and wear is better:-)

Hong Kong HKIA - MACAU - Hong Kong
Posted: Fri October 9, 2009 05:42 AM UTC
Hello there,

After arriving into HKIA from what I undertstand there are 2 ways to get to Macau:

1) Transfer from HKIA directly to Turbojet Ferry Terminal. If one chooses this option, the airline should directly transfer luggage to the ferry terminal. You dont have to go through HK customs

2) Go through HK customs and then take the Ferry from Wanchai Ferry to Macau.

If I choose the first option (assuming my airline directly transfers my luggage to the ferry terminal - some airlines dont have this facility I hear?) do I have to enter HK only through HKIA or can I use the ferry to go to Wan Chai. That would mean then that there should some immigration Checkpoint at Wan Chai.

I dont need a visa to enter either HK or Macau

Cheers,

Hong Kong solo travler in hong kong
Posted: Thu October 8, 2009 09:14 AM UTC
Hello, I'm solo traveling to Hong Kong and Thailand in January-February 2010. Are there any cheaper Asian airlines that fly between countries easily and frequently? I want to get from HK to Bangkok and back for as cheap as possible. Any suggestions?

Also, this may be odd, but I'm going for research on urban farms around the Hong Kong area, including off-shore islands, so do you know which areas of Hong Kong concentrate on producing food and livestock for the entire region?

Thank you so much!! Your help is greatly appreciated.

Hong Kong Airport transfer (taxi) to Hong Kong Island, how much?
Posted: Wed October 7, 2009 12:02 AM UTC
Hey everyone,

Can anyone please tell me roughly how much a taxi from the airport to Hong Kong Island would cost, it's actually just around the corner from the conference and exhibition centre I'm going? Or does anyone know of a company where I can pre book a transfer to and from my hotel?

An idea of how long this journey would take would really help as well.

Many thanks in advance for your time.

Hong Kong Wet Market in HK
Posted: Tue October 6, 2009 09:33 AM UTC
Hello there,

Are there any Wet Markets in HK? Was going through some material online and was made aware that the Central Market is probably closed. There is another Wet market close by which is Gage Street. Is that worth a visit? Any other Wet market that can be recommended (either in KW or HK Island). Thanks

Hong Kong Early breakfast places in Tsim Sha Tsui
Posted: Tue October 6, 2009 03:24 AM UTC
Hi! Would like to try some authentic hong kong breakfast food like dim sum during our trip to hk next month. However, i realise that most of the restaurants only start serving dim sum around 10am onwards. Are there any good eateries serving local food that open from as early as 8am? We will be staying around the tsim sha tsui area. So somewhere along canton or nathan road would be great..or even in harbour city? pls share!

Hong Kong Hong Kong v. Shanghai shopping
Posted: Mon October 5, 2009 06:22 PM UTC
I am vacationing in both Hong Kong and Shanghai and was wondering whether the shopping is better in one city or the other? I am not concerned about brand names, I just want good quality clothes. My guess is that Hong Kong is better for Brand Names, but Shanghai may be less expensive in general. Are there shopping malls that you could suggest for either city?

Also, is there an optometrist that one can suggest in either Hong Kong or Shanghai that could make glasses in 2-3 days? How much would that run?

Thank you,

Hong Kong Liquids on planes

Does Hong Kong airport have the same restrictions on liquids as Europe and the US does for carry on baggage. For example: one can only carry liquids in 3 ounce containers.

Cheers

Hong Kong villa holiday easily reached from hong kong
Posted: Mon October 5, 2009 03:04 PM UTC
will be in HK for 3 weeks in December and for 2 weeks we want a holiday in a private house/villa with private pool. does not have to be at a beach, but some good scenery/views and guaranteed warm weather are important. I have not been to any other part of Far East apart from HK and would prefer to stay as close as possible to HK rather than automatically looking at Thailand etc. Would be great to find somewhere in southern China for example, or maybe Vietnam. I really do not know where to start as I do not know any regions personally. I am not looking for nightlife and definitely not a big resort with hundreds of people. Grateful for any suggestions. Thanks eileen

Hi fellow vters,

i'll be heading to HK with my family in early november. Would like some advice as to whether i should stay at marco polo hong kong, or gateway hotel (marco polo)..both are at tsim sha tsui area, which i like.

What i'm looking for:-

easy access to local restaurants/quaint eateries
easy access to avenue of the stars/star house

i know both are quite near to each other, but which one is newer/cleaner/safer/not so worn down and more child friendly? i'll be travelling with two toddlers, age 4 and below.

Also, any info on the weather in early nov? i understand that oct is still monsoon/wet weather period?
