9 of us are in Messina on a cruise in July and would like to go on a private boat trip around the islands, can anybody recommend a company that I could try? Ideally we would like to go out towards Stromboli.

I was wondering if anyone knew of a place in Messina or Taomina (or nearby) where one can rent seadoos. What would the cost be?

Hi, if you could please help with these questions.

1.How far is the Hertz or National Car rental companies from where the cruise ships dock?

2. How long will it take to get to Taormina from Messina by car?

Could some help with these questions:
1. What in Messina is a must see or do?
2. Is Taormina worth going to? If so, how do I get there if I am not doing a cruise tour? I have read that the buses and trains are not reliable, is this still true?
3. Would it be better to rent a car and simply drive to the different sites?
4. Is there a car rental place near the cruise ship terminal?
5. Are there any beaches worth stopping at?

We are going to Messina for the day on the Legend of the Seas on April 18th. I think we will go to Taormina for the day and as the bus seems to take a long time I think we will get the train. Is the station far from where the ship comes in ? would it be walkable or better to get a taxi? I think the train takes about 30 minutes. Once we get to Taormina, I have read that we can get the Fennicular up the hill. Is this a long way from the train station? The alternative is to use the bus. Since we are only in the port from 8 am till 6 pm I feel we will need to get off the ship pretty soon after it docks and also plan to be back by 5 pm.

On Oct. 10, we (60 year olds) will have 10 hours in port here. What might be uniue about Messina and area for people who like a leisurely view of another country's sights, habits & specialties?

We will be three days in Taormina with a rental car before going to Messina to catch an overnight ferry to Salerno. We are wondering whether to drop off our rental car in Taormina and take a bus to Messina or drop off our rental car in Messina. Does anybody know if the rental drop-off is close to the port. Please let me know. Thanks.

I will be travelling by car from the italian mainland and sicily for the first time how and where do I get across. are there ferrys if s where do they leave from and how often. Do you need to schedule ahead?

In port of Messina with a cruise and want to venture to Taormina for a few hours. How much is the bus? I have tried INTERBUS but have just gotten some schedules not fares. Trying to decide if it is worth it or just go ahead and book a pricy cruise tour. Or just explore the day in Messina alone. I've already ruled out Etna.

My Faince and I are planning 14 days in Sicilly, We are thinking about renting a car but have a low budget, is the public transport reliabale?

Are there trains around these areas in Sicily or would you recommend by car?

We are also looking at camping on the route between Palmero and Messina, Does anyone know of good camping spots between these areas. I have heard the beaches are nicer in the northern part.

Also does anyone know of good value hostels between Palmero and Messina? and in Messina itself.

I'm due to dock in Messina on Thursday 19th October on a Cruise ship. For one day only. They have an expensive package tour to Mount Etna but I want to do it alone.

(1) What journey is involved and at what cost to get to the nearest town to Mount Etna?

(2) What transport is available and at what cost to get up the mountain?

i will be visiting relatives in reggio calabria and then going to taromina to join a tour of sicily. what is my best option to get to taromina what with all my luggage

How do I get from the airport of Reggio di Calabria to the ferry at Villa San Giovanni...to arrve at Messina? I will be arriving on Alitalia from Rome..

We are docking at Messina - which train station do we want for taking a driect train to Taormina..

And it appears the train is a 10 minute or so walk?

We found the website for the train - it looks like you are reserving a place/ticket and then paying for it when you get there?

Is this a good plan as opposed to taking a bus?

I am trying to find the address of a great-grandmother's house in Messina, Sicily, in the Provence of Trudi. She no longer lives there but it would be very important to my family if I could get a picture of the house. Does anyone know if there is a way to get this information???

I will be flying into Catania. I plan to spend two nights in Taormina. I have two more days free. The third day I fly out early in the morning from Catania. I need to make a day trip to Messina to visit my ancestor's home. Is it best to stay in Taormina the entire time and make day trips to Messina or is it better to stay in the Messina area? I will need to be in Cantania my last night to catch an early flight.

Our intention was to travel by car from Calabria to Sicily but the drop-off charges on Sicily are so extremely high that we now think of dropping off the car in Reggio di Calabria (if possible close to the ferry terminal), cross the Strait of Messina as foot passengers and take a train from Messina to Taormina.

We will be coming off a cruise ship at Messina. There are 6 of us and we want to rent a car and drive to Mt. Etna. Can Americans do this and will we be safe?

Hi, I am travelling with my parents to Messina (via a cruise ship) in October. My dad is in a wheelchair. Does anyone know what the transport is like from where cruise ships dock (are there cabs for hire?) and are there any accessible sights we can take him to that aren't too far away? Thanks Pete

We have a group of ten people going to a cruiseship boarding Messina for a one day stay. Should we go see Taormina or Mount Etna, or both? Which one is more worthwhile? How can I go to Taormina or Mount Etna myself if I don't want to join the cruise ship excursion. Is it easy to travel around Messina on our own?
Any help or link that can help us moving around Messina would be helpful. Thanks.
