Hoi An Hoi An update on floods
Posted: Thu October 1, 2009 05:29 PM UTC
Just wanted to get an update on the situation in Hoian after the typhoon Ketsana hit it a few days ago. I've read a couple of news but it didnt really give much info so I'm hoping i can get news from those living around the area.

We have a scheduled trip on Oct 31 and hope someone can shed some light on the current situation there.

Thanks,
Jekie

Our cruise ship is in port in Chang May only 12 hours or so next month and offers short trips to Hue or Hoi An. I want to visit both, but cannot do it on this trip. Does anyone have an opinion of which one would be the most interesting?

Hoi An Drive from Da Nang to Hoi An
Posted: Mon September 8, 2008 06:36 AM UTC
Hi everyone,

I have two questions.

How long is the drive from Hue to Hoi An? A friend of mine said I should drive straight from Hue to Hoi An and should not stop along the way at the Cham Museum in Da Nang and the Marble Mountain because they are not worth seeing if I'm pressed for time.

My second question is how many days should I spend in Hoi An. My friend said it is a very neat town and I should spend more time there. What is there to see and do in Hoi An?

Hoi An City or Beach
Posted: Tue July 15, 2008 12:01 PM UTC
I am going to Vietnam in August for a relaxing week then a tourist week. I was wondering where a good place to stay in Hoi An would be for a relax.

Is the beach nice?
Or do the hotels in the city have nice pool areas?

We will be going to Hue and Hanoi after that, but thought Hoi An would be interesting but still near a beach so you could relax.

Hello, someone told me that there is a tour that take you along the river outside Hoi An visiting a potery village, a place for carpentry and also where they make popcorn, caramel, rice paper etc. but she wasn't sure if it was outside Hoi An or maybe Hue from where these trips can be booked. Does anyone know or has taken these tours? I'd appreciate any help. Thank you, Tira

Hoi An Can the Tailors take orders from abroad?
Posted: Sat December 1, 2007 09:15 PM UTC
We were in Hoi'an about a year and a half ago. While we were there we bought several outfits for my wife and I. At the time we were in Vietnam, we were backpacking around the world and not eating too much. We were thinner there then we are now back home in Canada. I've also started bodybuilding, so I don't fit into any of my clothes that I got while in Hoi'An.

Do some people call/email the tailors in Hoi'An for more clothes to be sent back to us? If so, do we just measure ourselves and send the dimensions?

Thanks!

Hoi An Hoi An Travel Scam
Posted: Tue August 28, 2007 11:46 PM UTC
Especially if you are a woman or women traveling alone, please DO NOT use the Hoi An Tourist Office (on the corner of Tran Phu and Le Loi, 78 Le Loi) in Hoi An to book a taxi to the airport. Their driver, Chum (license plate 8565), will pretend to get really pissed off about something and drag you (and throw your stuff) onto the side of a rural road and refuse to take you to your destination unless you pay him extra money. He is a big guy, absolutely insane and a very dangerous, and although the travel agency is well aware of this, they still make people go with him. Avoid using their services; there are plenty of other travel agencies in town!!!

Hoi An Lookinh for roommates
Posted: Tue July 3, 2007 06:24 AM UTC
I'll be in Hoi An from Jul 13 to Jul 16 ( 3 nights )
And I'm looking for roommates to make my trip cheaper so that i can spend more money on shopping in fact that if i have 1 roommate for 3 nights there i can get 3 tailored shirts . I want to stay at Phu Thinh 1 Hotel. It's inside the old town , it takes about 3 mins to the japanese bridge ( on the same street) The price are 12 usd for double room with fan and 15 usd for a double room with air-conditioner the rooms have Fridge , Hot Tub , TV . But for me the most important thing is it's inside the old town . If you don't feel like living in the old town then there are many choices outside of the old town. My Aim is just making my trip cheaper so i can get more stuff . So thank You for reading this and I hope one of you will contact me :d Thank alot !
