Naples 3/4 Day trip to Pompeii, Mt Vesuvius & Herculaneum by public transport possible?
Posted: Tue November 3, 2009 06:58 AM UTC
Hi there,

I am wondering if it is possible to do Pompeii, Mt Vesuvius & Herculaneum departing from Naples early morning (say 7.30am) and be back at Naples by 4pm? (Have to meet a 6.30pm flight at Naples airport to Venice)?

I assume I need to catch a train to "Pompei Scarvi Villa Misteri" for the Pompei ruins and "Ercolano Scarvi" for the Herculaneum ruins with train details from this website: http://www.vesuviana.it/web/en , correct?

I am not sure how to get to/from Mt Vesuvius from either Pompei or Herculaneum without walking 6km up. Wiki travel (http://wikitravel.org/en/Vesuvius) said there are only 2 buses/day from Herculaneum and more frequent from Pompei. But I can't find any details/timetables/routes for the buses mentioned. I assume this is the bus website here: http://www.ctpn.it/home.asp which has no english option. I am wondering if anyone can help me get these details?

I also need to know public transport (bus/rail) details from Naples (probably near Naples central railway) to Naples airport.

Thanks in advance!

Naples Safe Location?
Posted: Thu June 25, 2009 10:27 AM UTC
Hi all, we have booked an apartment for one week (Oct) in the Centro Storico area near the Piazza Cavour Metro. We had picked this area as it suits our need to use the Metro system plus it appears to be within close walking distance to a number of interesting "tourist" sites/museums etc.
The question is, is this area reasonable safe area?

Cheers

I've checked the website http://www.marinobus.it/ and found that there is bus from Naples to Bari at 13:30. Where can I buy the bus tickets other than online purchase? Should I go directly to the bus terminus at 'P.zza Garibaldi uscita Staz. FS' to buy the tickets? Please help

Naples one day in naples
Posted: Sat June 6, 2009 07:33 PM UTC
Hello
After reading up we have decided that with our 12 hours that we have in naples we would LOVE to see Sorento or positano- even if its just for an hour or two.

Now my question is - If we were to get to positano, can one do this realisticly in one day ie. trains/taxis etc - we are arriving on cruise ship as well as departing (same day.

What is more scenic/interesting/al fresco lunch/shopping/chilling Positani or Sorrento?

we are 2 couples mid 30s with 3 kids between us ( dont worry about the kids on this one - this day is about us!!!) but bare in mind that they will be tagging along- I think ill take a push chair to avoid fatigue (mine is 5 yrs old).

I have dreamed of seing this stunning coast and will be back another time to explore for much longer next time - but in order to tantalize our tastebuds what is a stunning day trip??? help please - thanks so much Mandy ;)

Naples Visiting Pompeii from the Cruise Ship
Posted: Fri May 15, 2009 11:24 PM UTC
Are there Taxis or a Bus that will take us from the Cruise Ship Dock to Pompeii? I know it's about a 45 minute drive and the cruise ship offers a tour but we hate large tours and would rather be on our own as long as there is transportation available. If there is, do you know how much it will be for our family of 5? Should we get our tickets in advance? Thanks for any tips!

Naples Naples Nightlife
Posted: Mon May 4, 2009 03:14 PM UTC
Ciao!
I am looking for a bit of help from someone familiar with the Naples nightlife scene. I am working on a project where I need to update two short lists of top spots for nightlife in Naples. I live in Amalfi (not far!), but this is a part of city life that I am not familiar with. Can anyone help me with this? I have a short turn around time (Wednesday), but it should only take a few minutes for someone who is familiar with the Naples night scene. If you can help me or know someone who can help me I would love to hear from you! Or, if you have been to a great night spot in Naples recently I would love to hear about that, too! (This could be a bar, club, disco, or any place with an lively night scene.)

Thank you very much!

Naples Maggio dei Monumenti
Posted: Mon April 20, 2009 08:09 AM UTC
Hi,

I'll spend a couple of days in Napoli...in May!!

My main goal is to visit :
- Museo Archeologico Nazionale
- Pompei (and maybe Herculaneum)

Now I've also found out about this event "Monuments in May":
http://www.comune.napoli.it/flex/cm/pages/ServeBLOB.php/L/EN/IDPagina/1469
That sounds quite interesting but I've only found the programs for last year:
http://www.maggiodeimonumenti2008.it/
(yes, I've already tried http://www.maggiodeimonumenti2009.it/)

Any idea where (or when) I can find the 2009 version?

Also I'm not quite sure, does it mean any visit is free?? Sounds like it but a bit difficult to believe for Pompei.
If not, any comments on the ArteCard (http://www.campaniartecard.it/)? That doesn't seem so interesting in my case...

Last question, I'll probably stay at the Hotel Europeo Flowers, a low cost hotel located in the historical district (Via Mezzocannone). Any comments on that or eventually any other suggestions?

Thanks!!

Naples leics

In the last post, someone mentioned that there might be a tram that goes from the port to the train station. Is this correct? I looked on google maps and it seems that it is fairly easy to walk to the train station from the port. Most people contend that it is about a 25 minute walk, and recommended to do it to experience the frenzy of Naples life. From what I can see, I would cross the main street fronting the port, walk one block, and turn right. Pretty much go straight until I run right into the train station. We have no problem doing the walk, but what would you recommend? If walking means we would get a feel for what Napels is all about, then I wouldn't mind doing that. You seem to know about Naples. What would you recommend? Walk, bus (how?), or taxi?

Naples Distance from Naples Renaissance Hotel to the Hydrofoil Service
Posted: Wed March 18, 2009 02:54 PM UTC
Just wondering how far it is to the port from the Renaissance Hotel in Naples. Is it possible to walk with luggage, or best to take a taxi? Also, approximately how far is it from the Central station to the hotel and if a taxi is taken, what sort of fare should we expect to pay? Finally, I read about a bus that runs from the airport to the station and to the port? I recall seeing that it was about 3 or 4 euros. Is this service still running and would it be possible to catch this from the station to the hotel or from the hotel to the port? I would appreciate any tips with this.

Naples Port to Train Station
Posted: Thu February 12, 2009 01:54 AM UTC
Hi,

Will be cruising into Naples in July and I would like step by step information as to how to get to the train that takes you to Pompeii and the then on to Sorrento.

1. How do I get from the port to the train station?
2. When I get to the train station, where do I go to buy the tickets and where do I catch the train? It seems there is more than one train "station". Something to do with local and national lines?
3. If I take a hydrofoil back to Naples from Sorrento, how much will that cost and is it worth taking, or should I save the money and train it back?
4. Where can we find a reasonable place to have lunch in Sorrento that might have a view or the ambiance of being in Italy?
Thank you for your answers before hand.

Naples One week in Naples
Posted: Mon January 19, 2009 11:34 AM UTC
Hello there!!!
I am trying to plan my trip to Naples in February, so I would really like to ask a few questions:
1) Is it wise to dedicate a full morning/afternoon in Pompei and Herculaneum and another full day for both Sorrento and Capri?
2) Are there any ferries from Sorrento to Capri during winter and how often are they?
3) When it comes to Naples itself, I'll be staying on the Lungomare and I'm thinking of visiting the archeological museum, castel nuovo, castel del' uovo, teatro san carlo, Vomero area, Spaccanapoli and Chiaia. How long will all these sites take me, considering I'll need my gourmet/shopping moments, too?

Thank you in advance, you guys!!!

Naples help needed accomodation summer 2009 in Neapoli region
Posted: Fri November 7, 2008 11:28 AM UTC
Dear friends,

I'm in a serious lack of help, please, share all your experience, which I would appreciate highly! And anytime you need mine, I'm all yours! :)
The thing is that we (two young couples and a single friend of ours) are coming to Italy on the 28th of june and are staying untill the 12th of july. We're looking for an unexpensive way to spend our holidays by the sea...But as we've never been to Italy we don't know what to start our search with and where to look for rental suggestions. We are looking for an accomodation in Neapol region by the sea side, where the house or an appartment or nice bungalo even would cost 1000 euro per two weeks per whole maximum (for the perioud of our staying)...might be a fisherman's village or a small town..whatever...We personally are more interested in a small kinda ethnic fisherman's house near the sea, than an appartment in a new built cottage. We are not that much concerned about the condition, you know..it should just be nice and romantic :)...Could you, please, be so kind to tell us where we should look for such an accomodation? Do you think we could find something nice (pretty near to the sea) by 1000 euro max in the perioud? Where (what web sites) can we look for such rental suggestions? Thank you in advance for any kind of information!!!Yours forever, Masha from Russia :)

Naples Whats the easiest way from Poitano to Rome?
Posted: Tue November 4, 2008 07:25 AM UTC
Hi, In mid April we're taking a trip to Italy & Positano will be out last stop(for 3 days). The day before out departure from Rome I need to get from Positano to Rome figuring we'll stay the nite in Rome & off to the airport in the morn. Would the Ferry from Positano to Naples & then the Train to Rome be my best bet? Or is there a train from Sorrento that goes up to Rome? Just looking to get there the fastest & easiest. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Naples Travel from Paris to Naples

We're going to Paris, then directly to Naples for a stay in Sorrento. I see that there aren't any direct flights from Paris to Naples. Any suggestions? Would flying to Rome, then taking a train to Naples be a good option? Thanks.
