Tongli bus Posted: Mon October 5, 2009 11:13 PM UTC
I plan to travel by bus to Tongli next Monday (12 October). Can someone please advise me about catching the bus from Shanghai stadium. Do I get off the metro at Shanghai Stadium or Shanghai Indoor Stadium? Is the bus station easy to find? Are there signs in English to find the correct bus and english spoken to buy tickets? Times? Do I have to catch a specific bus back and is that straightforward. Does the return bus depart from the same point as it drops off in Tongli?

Shanghai v. Hong Kong Shopping Posted: Mon October 5, 2009 06:23 PM UTC
I am vacationing in both Hong Kong and Shanghai and was wondering whether the shopping is better in one city or the other? I am not concerned about brand names, I just want good quality clothes. My guess is that Hong Kong is better for Brand Names, but Shanghai may be less expensive in general. Are there shopping malls that you could suggest for either city?
Also, is there an optometrist that one can suggest in either Hong Kong or Shanghai that could make glasses in 2-3 days? How much would that run?
Thank you,

3. Suzhou > Zhouzhuang (Hotel: Yunhai resort) - bus
4. Zhouzhuang > Shanghai - bus
Appreciate your kind help to provide any useful info or advice with this itinerary. I am travelling with 2 old parents and would need to consider a more comfortable journey for them as well.

suzhou / hangzhou / tongli Posted: Tue September 22, 2009 02:28 AM UTC
hi! we got advice from the other thread that we should spend some time around shanghai. cause we'll have 9.5 days in beijing, 2.5 in shanghai and 1.5 in xian. so maybe we'll cut short beijing and maybe either
- do a day trip to a water town (tongli or someplace else i cant remember the name) or
- go to suzhou/hangzhou for a day?
which do you guys reckon is better?
do people usually stay over in suzhou/hangzhou or go back to shanghai?
which of these 2 places is more interesting?
thanks!!!

First time to Shanghai Posted: Mon September 7, 2009 11:02 AM UTC
Hi..
I'm planning of going to Shanghai from Dec 19 to Dec 24 with my parents. This is my first time to China.
1) What is the recommended hotel ? Not too expensive.. budget around $80 - $100 (Spore dollar).
2) Rayfont Shanghai Hotel & Apartment. Has anyone stayed in this hotel ? Is that a hotel or an apartment ? This is the address: 1066 Yanan West Road, Shanghai, China. Is it near the metro station and in downtown area?
3) What are the places that I must visit and can I take the metro to go to those places ?
4) Is there any night markets there ? And how about the price ?
Thank you!

3 days 2 night in Shanghai Posted: Sat September 5, 2009 04:59 AM UTC
hell-o! us again.
We'll be in Shanghai for 3 days (2 nights). via xian. (beijing-xian-shanghai-beijing)
Firstly, accomodation.
We tried booking at Blue Mountain hostel, but were told they do not do advance booking and we should call 10 days before? That's a lil too unrealistic for us as we are on quite a tight schedule.
We also found Shangi City Central Youth Hostel... anyone been to this one?
Can anyone recommend any other good hostels that'd be convenient to travel to the key attractions from? Top priority for us would be cleanliness and safety though.
Budget (for 2 people) about 180 - 200 rmb/night.
Secondly, are 3 days sufficient to see the key sights in Shanghai?
- French area
- Nanjing Rd (shopping)
- People's square
- Shanghai Grand Theatre (should we watch something there?)
- the Bund
- History museum
- Old City God's Temple
- Huang Pu River cruise
- Qibao Ancient Town (is this a water village?)
are they any other places that we should visit as well?
we're more interested in the cutural/history (minus musems with pottery and sorts, sorry) aspects of stuff ;)
thanks a million!

Transit through Shanghai without a visa Posted: Fri September 4, 2009 03:48 AM UTC
I understand from the Chinese consulate websites that Americans, Canadians, Aussies, and some others can spend less than 48 hours in Shanghai without a visa. I am wondering if anyone out there has done that, and what was their experience of that ? I am a little concerned that the airline (in my case, Thai Airways) might be unaware of this, and not let me board the flight in Bangkok.

Transfer to domestic flight in Pudong airport Posted: Sun August 30, 2009 10:29 AM UTC
I will be arriving Singapore Airlines flight at 6.40pm and connecting with a Shanghai Airlines flight at 8.50pm to Huangshan.
Appreciate if someone can help confirm.
1. I can't send luggage direct to Huangshan? Meaning i have to clear immigration and claim my baggage and then go check in for the Shanghai airlines flight? Is that correct?
2. Will i have enough time? Singapore Airlines says yes but it looks a bit tight to me.
3. Does my check in baggage have to go through security check before i check it in? This differs from airport to airport some dun have to check just check in. I haven't been to PUdong before.
Thank you.
