| Palermo | Nightlife/Restaurants in Palermo Posted: Tue May 13, 2008 01:09 PM UTC
Hi,
We are 6 girls visiting Palmero in May, is anybody able to recommend any good bars, clubs and restaurants. I know that dance music is very popular in Palmero but are there any clubs that play RnB, soul, pop etc. Any good Sicilan restaurants? any suggestions would be appreciated. |

| Palermo | Palermo to Siracusa on the Cheap? Posted: Thu March 13, 2008 12:45 PM UTC
My friends and I will be in Palermo over Easter to escape the crowds in Rome, and one of these friends has family in Siracusa who would like for us to come visit. Trains are running anywhere from 16-26E, not bad, but are there other options?

| Palermo | Beaches Posted: Mon February 18, 2008 03:37 PM UTC
I will be in Palermo on 9/18 (off a cruise ship). We want to spend the day relaxing at the beach - enough excursions by this point. Thinking about going to Mondello Beach. Is this a good selection? Good sand, food, drinks, etc.? What is the best way to get to and from the dock in Palermo?
Thanks!! |

| Palermo | Travel from Palermo to Mezzojuso Posted: Tue February 12, 2008 12:38 AM UTC
I am going to be on a cruise ship where one of the ports is Palermo. My grandfather was from Mezzojuso and I understand there is still some family there. I may be interested in trying to travel there when we dock since I believe it is only about 22 miles. What would be the best way to do that? Bear in mind, I have a limited amount of time as I must be back at the ship by late afternoon. Any help would be appreciated.

| Palermo | Luggage and Parking facility in Palermo Posted: Sun February 10, 2008 10:56 AM UTC
We are reaching Palermo at 6:30 am by ferry, and are planning to spend half a day in the city before moving on in a rented car. Since we have read in this forum that driving in the city is not advisable, we have the option of (1) keeping our luggage at the ferry docks and picking it up around lunch time along with the car, or (2) hiring the car at the docks, and parking it, with the luggage, while we take public transport for moving around in the city. Which of these options is more feasible? If 1, are there lockers at the docks, where our luggage can be kept safely? And if 2, can you suggest the best location of the parking lot?

| Palermo | Another VT user from London... travel to Palermo/Catania/MountEtna Posted: Tue February 5, 2008 09:20 PM UTC
Hello all,
I am planning to visit Sicily for 5 days in late March 2008. My draft itinerary is as follows. Please advise if this is ok (background information: we are a group of 5 with no car, youth hostel-studenty type of indepenedent traveller). Day 1 - arrive to Palermo in the evening, night in Palermo Day 2 - sightseeing in Palermo, night in Palermo Day 3 - travel to Catania in the morning or afternoon, sightseeing, night in Catania Day 4 - day trip to Mount Etna, night in Catania Day 5 - return to Palermo, flight back to London in the evening Is this ok? We will be taking public transport all the way - I'm not sure my plan is sensible or not. Please comment!! Also, I left the following questions on the Catania section of the VT forum but I'd be grateful if anyone would like to have a shot at it. 1. Is Catania the best place to stay if we are spending a day in Mount Etna, say, overnight stay in Catania? 2. Assuming that Catania is our 'base', what trains or buses are available to catch to go up to Mount Etna (I read this on some websites before)? 3. What 'destination' should we be aiming for for a day-trip to the Mount Etna? 4. How much does it cost? Transportation? Entry fee to the National Park? Many thanks for all your help in advance. I look forwarding to hearing from you. |

| Palermo | Ferry to Naples Posted: Sun February 3, 2008 07:40 PM UTC
We are planning to travel from Palermo to Naples by ferry in late May. We note that there are two ferry lines, SNAV and Terrenia, that leave and arrive at about the same time.We have used Terrenia line in the past; can anyone tell me the difference in the two lines? SNAV is slightly cheaper, but would not be the deciding factor. Any difference in comfort of accomodations, place of departure and arrival, etc? Also how far from the port to the Naples train station.

| Palermo | Help! Decent Hotel in Palermo Posted: Fri October 12, 2007 09:45 PM UTC
Ciao. Does anyone know of a decent, inexpensive, hotel in Palermo within walking distance from the train station that has single rooms with shower and TV. The ones I have looked into either have TV but no in-suite shower/bath or no TV but have showers in the rooms. Also, can you walk from the train station Stazione-Centrale-to the Palazzo de Normanni/Cappella Palatina? It does not look too far on a map but distances can be far in reality.
Grazie. |

| Palermo | Palermo Visit-Pay for driving tour or not?? Posted: Sun September 9, 2007 05:35 PM UTC
Hi, We will be visiting Palermo in early Oct. by cruise ship. We will only be in port from 7am-5pm. We are trying to decide whether to be cheap and try to see the city on our own (as well as Monreale, Mt. Pellegrino)or to hire a driver. We were quoted $139 per person to see Cattedrale Di Palermo,Quattro Canti,Piazza della Vergogna,Catacome dei Cappucccini,Capella Palatina,Palazzo dei Normanni, lunch by the Mondello Sea,old Chiostro in Monreale, Mt.Pellegrino, and Santa Rosalia Church. My questions are #1. Is this a feasible itenerary? Can all this be done easily in one day or is the tour company being overly optimistic? #2. Is it worth the $139/person to do this? Would we be better off trying to find our way around ourselves?? We want to be able to see as much as possible so I am leaning towards hiring the driver but want others advice before I book it. Thanks so very much. Diane

| Palermo | Safety around the port Posted: Sat September 8, 2007 02:31 PM UTC
We will be arriving in Palermo port mid Oct. at 6:30 AM from Naples.
Since we cannot drop our luggage, two rollaboards, until 9 am, we thought we would have a coffee and then walk the 20 minutes to our B&B. Is this safe. The B&B is directly down Via Emerico Amari. |

| Palermo | How much is a taxi Mondello beach? Also, any recommended restaurants? Posted: Mon August 6, 2007 04:49 PM UTC
Hi everyone,
I am off for a short holiday in Palermo later this week. I'm staying at Zed & Momo guesthouse - has anyone stayed here before? What is it like and what's the area like? Also, i'm wondering how much a taxi from Zed and Momo (Via La Farina, 11 , Palermo 90141) to the beach would be? And how easily it would be to make this journey by bus? Are there any must-visit restaurants or bars near Zed and Momo? Any other recommendations and information about the area I am staying in would be great. Thanks so much. Kirsty |
