Thinking about heading to Sicily this jan, is that a smart move or should I wait until later in the year?? Is the weather very nice at that time of the year or is it just as cold as in the states??

Palermo to Sorrento - is this really even possible??? Posted: Sat June 20, 2009 09:56 PM UTC
Well, I know it's possible...
I would prefer to take an overnight train on July 20th, but it seems that I would need to leave Palermo at 20:30 arriving in NAPLES at 06:19. Then I would have to take the Circumvesuviana to Sorrento from there.
Is there a better way???

Bus or train? Posted: Wed February 25, 2009 08:10 PM UTC
We want to get from Palermo to Agrigento to see the old Greek temples. If we take the train, how do we get from the station in Agrigento to the Valley of the Temples? Is it better to take the bus, does the bus go all the way to the site?

training down from Roma Posted: Sun September 7, 2008 09:36 PM UTC
Hi, Thanks for your helpful replies, I think taking the train sounds great, Wandering Camel Do you suggest breaking the train journey somewhere on the way? Although I have done a quickie bus trip through Italy my husband is yet to see, I am not sure of the train route. We will not be hiring a car , we both drive but on the left hand side of the road and if from what we have heard about Italy's roads, it will wreck our holiday experience...Thanks again I will be definitely be taking some of your good advise...

Needing help Posted: Sat September 6, 2008 10:05 PM UTC
Hi Guys, My husband and I are traveling to Italy in Feb2009, we will be staying in Florence for a week or so then want to go to sicilia for about two weeks, I am unsure of the best way to reach sicily what to see other than the volcano, and should we stay in one place then venture out or travel around, We will not be driving and we are not back packing this holiday. Any advise greatly appreciated. Should we visit Calabria on the way down, We do not want an organised bus trip, we are able to do this on our own, with advise from V'rits. thanks

Airport-Palermo bus on Sunday Posted: Mon August 25, 2008 09:28 AM UTC
Need to travel from Cefalu to catch the ryanair flight on Sunday 19th October. According to the prestiacomande website http://www.prestiaecomande.it/linea/orari_e_costi_aeroporto.htm
I can get a bus at 8:30 from palermo which just gets me there in time. It doesnt specifically say on the site whether the same service runs on Sundays or not. Does anyone happen to know if the timetable is in effect every day, or is it a reduced service on sundays?
Cheers

Palermo in early October Posted: Wed August 20, 2008 10:30 AM UTC
Hello
My friend and I are travelling to Palermo on 29 September. I have heard over and over again about Palermo being 'dangerous'. As we are two women travelling together I would appreciate some feedback on dos and don'ts. Is it true that we should not be out at night on our own and how bad the the pick pocketing?
We would also like to know if there is a museum specifically about Palermo/Sicily.
Thirdly we are both very interested in volcanoes and are rather hoping we may be able to do a day trip to see a volcano. Is this possible.
I would appreciate your feedback.
Thanks

Driving from Pescara to Naples to Sicily - driving advice and free camping please Posted: Tue June 3, 2008 04:17 PM UTC
Hi all,
Me and a friend are hiring a camper van for a week in Southern Italy this July. We pick it up from Pescara on the East coast and plan to visit the Naples/Amalfi area and possibly go down to Sicily.
I haven't driven much on the continent so am not sure about driving distances and times. A couple of options includes:
Pescara > down the east coast > along south coast > sicily > back up the east coast to Naples > cut across back to Pescara.
Pescara > Naples > down west coast > sicily > ferry back to Naples > Pescara
Pescara > down the east coast > along south coast > back up the east coast to Naples > Pescara. (no sicily).
So many options...
Any advice from people that have driven this lower part of Italy before?
Also, as I mentioned we're hiring a camper van. Is there a good website which gives advice on places where we can park up and free camp? We would love to pull up on the side of a beach, throw down a BBQ, go for a swim and relax for the evenings.
Finally, we don't want to be driving more than 3hours per day.
Thanks in advance.

Would like to take the train from Palermo to Cefalu and was wondering exactly where the station was located in Palermo. What would be the best way to get there from the port? (we are arriving on a cruise-ship) Is it possible to walk?
Thanks in advance,
