Xi'an Xian - Terracota Warriors - HuaShan Mountain
Posted: Tue April 15, 2008 07:16 AM UTC
Dear Travel Community,

Within our travel plans for China, definitely we want to visit Xian. A few questions:

1) I read somewhere that in Xian there are direct buses directly to the Terracota Warriors. Is this true? How much time does it take to get there?

2) Is it possible to visit the Terracota Warriors without a personal guide? I mean, does the museum have guidance in English (e.g. headphone guidance or explanation boards in English)?

2) We want to visit the Hua Shan Mountain. Are there direct buses from Xian to the mountain?

Thanks a lot for helping us out.

Kind regards,
NicBBB

Xi'an 36 hours in Xian
Posted: Mon March 31, 2008 01:44 AM UTC
We plan to be in Xian for 36 hours next month and had a few questions.

1. How much time (including travel time) do we need to set aside to see the Terra Cotta Warriors. Is there a certain time of day when they are less crowded?

2. The Shaanxi History Museum looks very interesting. Are the descriptions of the exhibits just in Mandarin or is there also signage in English or other languages?

3. Aside from those two things, what other "must see" sights would you recommend that we squeeze into our short visit?

Xi'an xian enroute datong
Posted: Tue March 18, 2008 03:06 AM UTC
hi,

we are thinkng of stopping at datong for a day to see the yungang caves on our way from beijing to xian.

When i try to check for the train schedule, the datong-xian or xian-datong takes 16 hours. its on the 1673 non-air con train.

Are there any other train time or should i be taking a bus from datong to xian ? If so, can anyone provide the departure times and time taken for the bus travel.

Thanks!

Xi'an Booking Train Tickets From Xi'an
Posted: Tue October 23, 2007 03:49 AM UTC
I can't seem to find anyone to book train tickets fro me from Xi'an to Nanjing.

I am thinking of trying to push my luck and book those at the station upon arrival to Xi'an. Will I be pushing it too much? I would REALLY prefer a soft sleeper but those seem hard to come by.

Anyone by any chance know the email address of the Xi'an Ibis Hotel?

Xi'an Tang Dynasty Show Tickets
Posted: Tue September 25, 2007 03:26 AM UTC
How crowded was this show? Is it at the Shaanxi Grand Opera House? Do you think it will be easy to get tickets when I get to Xi'an? I am on an 'independent tour' for 2 days in Xi'an, which I think means there is a driver and a guide. I was going to buy tickets at the Tangdynastyshow site but it is an unsecured site.

Besides, if I want to take bus from Xian to Hua Shan, what is the bus number? Where can I take this bus from?

Thanks a lot.

Xi'an Airfare to Guilin (from Xi’an)?
Posted: Mon September 10, 2007 07:58 PM UTC
I understand that there are few websites that I can use to book a flight from Xian to Guilin but I have been told that I can find better deals if I book my flights through the local travel agents when in Xian myself. Is that true?

Can people share their experience?
What’s the typical lead time needed to book a flight in early November?

Thanks in advance.

Xi'an Tang Dynasty show by taxi
Posted: Tue August 28, 2007 10:12 PM UTC
We're staying at the Gaosu Shenzhou Hotel as part of a tour. How far is it to the Tang Dynasty show, would we need a taxi, and about how much would it cost. Are the taxi's running after the show so we can get back to our hotel?
I believe there are two places to enjoy Tang Dynasty show, One is in Shaanxi Grand opera house, the other one is in Tangyuegong, which would be our best choice from where we are staying?

Xi'an Taxi rate for a day trip to Huashan?
Posted: Mon August 13, 2007 04:45 PM UTC
How much would it cost us for a private taxi for a day-trip to Huashan from Xian? We are four students in our group so wondering if it'd be reasonable enough to just do a cab instead of taking the bus or train. Any idea?
Thank in advance

Xi'an Sheraton or Hyatt in Xi'an?
Posted: Sun August 12, 2007 06:48 AM UTC
Need a recommendation from fellow travelers. Given a choice, which of these will you recommend in Xi'an - Sheraton or Hyatt?

Room cost is not a factor as I will be using Hotel Points for whichever one I decide to go for. However, recommendations on location, level of service, accessibility are indeed something that would help me make the choice.

Thanks in advance.

Xi'an Photos at the Terra Cotta Warrior Site
Posted: Wed August 8, 2007 04:14 AM UTC
I see many photos taken inside the building area with the Terra Cotta Warriors. I have also heard that taking photos may be prohibited (although one photo said this restriction has been eliminated).

What risk do I run in taking photos of the Warriors? Will guards just chew me out, or might they take my camera? What measures should I take to ensure I leave with both my camera and pictures?

Xi'an old Han capital of Chang 'an
Posted: Thu July 26, 2007 04:24 PM UTC
I will be in Xian for a week on business and among the places I want to visit is the old Han capital. However, I find no tours that list this as a destination. I've read articles about the wonderful archeological work happening there and would like to know if there is any organized access for tour groups.
Thanks!
