Could you please tell me how much time it takes to reach the Terracota Army Museum from Bus 306 and also what time does the bus leaves and comes back etc ? Where can I find a schedule for Xian Bus routes ?
We're flying back from JiuZhaigou through Xi'An, and we have a 7 hour layover at the airport. We've been to Xi'An before, but this time are just looking for how to occupy ourselves during the layover.
Any suggestions? Sites? Restaurants not far? Also, in the domestic airport area, do you know if there are any comfortable passenger waiting areas such as the club rooms that some airlines have, etc.? I don't know if there are any hotels right near the airport itself.

Hi! We're spending some time in china this october. will be doing a round trip beijing-xian-shanghai-beijing. heaps of questions, but will just do the xi'an questions here first.
we've got 2 days in xi'an. arriving in the morning via train from beijing, staying one night at the bell tower hostel and leaving for shanghai the next night. we've been doing a bit of research and we'd like to hopefully see:
- terracotta warriors
- muslim quarters
- great mosque
- bell towers
- musical fountain
would 2 days be enough for these? any suggestions as to how to fit all these into our short time there? any other places we should visit?
ALSO, we would like to get train tickets from xi'an to shanghai - overnight, soft sleeper, on the newer faster trains (i think the Z or D series? i cant remember which they were) but since we were only arriving in xi'an the day before departure, we're afraid we wouldn't be able to get them anymore. is there any other way we can get train tickets in advance... online or from beijing? how safe are the overnight trains anyway?
sorry for the tons of questions. if anyone could help us out here it'd be great!
thanks guys ;)

There are a lot of great domestic flights around China and into Xi'an. But I cannot find or even get to a discount website that shows arrival flights from Int. origins. (expedia and others say the only way from Thailand or Singapore is by 3 flights and costing the cheapest $500) I need to depart from a Southeast Asian country and arrive to Xi'an. Please help if you know a site that shows all departure and ARRIVAL into XIY.
Bangkok Air is the only discount airline I see that is direct but has 1 service a week and don't you know it, there is no way for me to make that. =) Why does it seem only a domestic incoming into Xi'an when I know there should be lots of Asian flights coming in. Also, most airports has easily accesible data of all flights but not Xi'an?
I am planning to travel from Beijing to Europe by train, and one of the legs of the trip will be from Xi'an to Urumqi. I am wondering if I will need to reserve this ticket ahead of time. I plan on spending at least two or three days in Xi'an in order to see the Terra Cotta warriors and other sights, so I could just buy the ticket on the first day if that will be sufficient time in advance.
Hi! It seems that a number of buses run from railway station and a lot of guide gives information about taking buses from the station to various attractions. Is it far to walk from the Bell Tower to the Railway Station?
5 days in Xian Posted: Sat January 17, 2009 02:17 PM UTC
Can someone please give us a 5 days itinerary for 2. We will be arriving in the afternoon on day 1 and leaving in the evening in day 5 . The must see for us is Qianling .Is Xianyang Museum worth the trip?
Any recommendations for a good youth hostel in Xi'an? I might be visiting in Dec, sometime end of December so am looking for a convenient place to stay. Understand there are some pretty good youth hostel - such as Han Tang Inn, University Hostel, Xiangzimen Hostel etc.
Would very much appreciate some advice. Thanks.
PS: As it is in winter, please help recommend a hostel with good heating.
I'm a photographer that plans on shooting stuff in and around the city is there a best local to easily get to things of interest??
(Like being near Spanish steps in Rome for instance)
I'm currently looking at the Bell Tower Hotel based on a users travel page.
If someone has a great place to stay I'm all ears, BTW.
We will be in Xi'an for just two nights during a tour with our dinners included. Interested in some places to hang out after dinner... we are not "clubbers" but are more into the pub scene - but are open to any suggestions.
Is it possible to "do" Xi'an in one day (staying there at one night)
my idea was:
-terracotta army(one hour travelling, 3 hours visiting. back at noon in Xi'an)
between 1 am and evening:
-Wild Goose Pagodas
-drum tower en bell tower
-muslim quarer (o.a the great mosque, bazaar, Huajue Xiang alley )
-grand south gate, city wall, biking on the wall 2 hours around
(and eventually The Eight Immortals Temple)
Where are the cave dwellings closest to Xian? Can you get a taxi to take you there, or you need to hire a guide to take you to see the inside of the cave dwellings?
My wife and I from Brisbane, Australia are planning to visit Xian from June 18th for a few days with relatives from Zhuhai but they have said there is damage from aftershocks and the government is advising people not to go there. Does anyone know the true conditions for Xian as I have not seen anything in the news for the area?
Any reply would be appreciated.
Thanks
Chris
Within our travel plans for China, definitely we want to visit Xian. A few questions:
1) I read somewhere that in Xian there are direct buses directly to the Terracota Warriors. Is this true? How much time does it take to get there?
2) Is it possible to visit the Terracota Warriors without a personal guide? I mean, does the museum have guidance in English (e.g. headphone guidance or explanation boards in English)?
2) We want to visit the Hua Shan Mountain. Are there direct buses from Xian to the mountain?
We plan to be in Xian for 36 hours next month and had a few questions.
1. How much time (including travel time) do we need to set aside to see the Terra Cotta Warriors. Is there a certain time of day when they are less crowded?
2. The Shaanxi History Museum looks very interesting. Are the descriptions of the exhibits just in Mandarin or is there also signage in English or other languages?
3. Aside from those two things, what other "must see" sights would you recommend that we squeeze into our short visit?
we are thinkng of stopping at datong for a day to see the yungang caves on our way from beijing to xian.
When i try to check for the train schedule, the datong-xian or xian-datong takes 16 hours. its on the 1673 non-air con train.
Are there any other train time or should i be taking a bus from datong to xian ? If so, can anyone provide the departure times and time taken for the bus travel.
I would like to go from Xian to Huangshan Mountain (north side Taiping entryway). Any way to do this??
If it is ONLY possible from Xian to Tunxi I will do it that way, but how?
what is a reasonable price for a driver to take us on a tour of the terracotta warriors, the History museum and the Wild Goose pagoda?
We have been quoted all sorts of prices from 140y to 900!!
I can't seem to find anyone to book train tickets fro me from Xi'an to Nanjing.
I am thinking of trying to push my luck and book those at the station upon arrival to Xi'an. Will I be pushing it too much? I would REALLY prefer a soft sleeper but those seem hard to come by.
Anyone by any chance know the email address of the Xi'an Ibis Hotel?
How crowded was this show? Is it at the Shaanxi Grand Opera House? Do you think it will be easy to get tickets when I get to Xi'an? I am on an 'independent tour' for 2 days in Xi'an, which I think means there is a driver and a guide. I was going to buy tickets at the Tangdynastyshow site but it is an unsecured site.
