Hi,
am going with my bro and aged mum to Lijiang for a 5 day trip. We have confirmed a hotel booking and are planning to go the following places:
Yulong Snow Dragon
Leaping Tiger Gorge
Shuhe
Baisha
Black Dragon Pool
Lijiang Old town
What are the best ways to visit these places? Should we book 1-day tours or just find our own transport and walk around. Please advise! We are still deciding on whether to book these 1-day tours on the net or find an agent in Lijiang on our first day there.
Also, are there any other not-to-be missed attractions in the area?
I've been doing research on Lijiang travel and am considering maybe a trek of couple of days to Tiger Leaping Gorge and visiting some of the sights in Lijiang. There are many agents on the internet but if I can get some recomendations on reliable ones it would be very much appreciated.
I'm looking to make my own arrnagements to Lijiang and then the tour to cover the land arrangements.
Would appreciate recommendation of good hotels (in terms of cleanliness and service) in both locations (with attached bathroom). There are numerous hotels around Gu Zhen which are reasonably-priced, western and traditional naxi style. Websites providing hotel info provide little info and without tourists' review
Thanks!
Lonely Planet warns regarding altitude sickness in Zhongdian . Could someone refer to this ? I have been to Lijiang before and was not at all disturbed . Could the difference in elevation have such dramatic effect ?
Is anyone familiar with the layout of Kunming airport? I'm picking up my luggage from one airline (China Eastern) and have to check in with a different airline (Shandong). Do I need to go out and come back in. Is it a relatively small airport? Any problems with security? much thanks
post subject says it all.
is it possible to do both spots in one day?
we'll be arriving KunMing 10am. so mybe half day then 2 spots. possible?
if not, maybe halfday each?
doing a day tour by ourselves so need help on itinerary, so which should we go first? most efficient route...
YULONG snow mountain
dongba valley
prairie
baishui river
ganhaizi
black dragon pool
Lugu lake
shuhe old city
can we do this by public transpo/taxi? or better off joining a tour group? one thing i dislike about tourgroups is they bring you to places your not interested in, and in places where you want to see they rush you.
Hi all
Planning a Yunnan nature trip this coming easter. Below is my draft IT:
Day1: fly directly to Lijiang. visit the old town, take in night scenery
Day2: take a day trip to Dali - is this worth going? the three pagodas and some old towns?
Day 3: spend the day in LiJiang - YuLong mountain, Shuhe old town. Take night bus to ZhongDian OR take early morning bus to ZhongDian
Day 4: arrive ZhongDian (or is this Deqing?) Tiger Leaping Gorge, Potala gardens
Day 5: want to go see the BaiShuiTai, but i dont know how to get here. Pls help!
Day 6-7: Kunming wonders
Questions:
1) my IT sound feasible? any suggestions to add more scenic spots, and what areas to skip?
2) is zhongdian and deqing two different places? if yes, can we cover both in 2days? special mention to the BaiShuiTai (the calcium pools)
really need your inputs esp point to point travel times between Dali, LiJiang, ZhongDian/Deqing and their respective places of interest.

I will be entering the Yunnan from Laos at Mohan (i think). I am looking to go to Tiger Leaping Gorge and Shangri-La immediately as to avoid the coldest of the winter. What I am looking for are ideas that combine cheap with quick. Cheap being most important. I will have time to see the rest of Yunnan and Guangxi afterwards, but am going to rush through to the northern part. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I will be travelling to Kunming, Dali, Lijiang and Shangrila next week (3rd week of Oct). Going up to Yulong Mountain will also b part of my itinery. Can anyone kindly advise on the weather in that region currently. I have checked the weather forecast online and it seems to be in the range of a high of 22 degree celcius and a low of 14 degree celcius but I have heard people saying the temperatures are freezing especially in Lijiang and Shangrila. I am in a dilema of what to pack. Winter clothes?

Hi There,
I knew this place will blossom into yellow around mid feb to mid march. Does anyone have any idea how it will look like at the end of september? Is it still worth to make a trip there if i'm around the area?
I know there are a few hotels around Kunming's airport, but I can't find them online. Does anyone happen to know? I'm looking for hotels 1km or closer.

Will be going to Yunnan in 2 weeks' time. Any updates or news about the sichuan earthquake on Yunnan. Understand that they are close to each other. Anyone with the latest information so that we can decide to re-route if needs to. Would DIY at Zhongdian, LIjiang, Dali and Xisshuangbana. Thanks.
Dear All,
Time again for our annual pilgrimage to China. All packed and ready to go to Sichuan but with the earthquake, not possible now. So, at such a short notice, anyone knows the information about the above?? Need to reserve accomodation? or does anyone else have better suggestion? We're a married couple on a average budget. haha. thanks
I had planned to travel in this area in early September 2008.
Instead of being a tourist, I'd like to be a medical relief worker. I am a pharmacist and Search and Rescue volunteer. Does anyone have recommendations on a reputable relief organziation to join for 2 or so weeks?
Look forward to your responses!
Hello
I am looking for information in regards to the Dragon Boat Festival held in Lijiang. I am researching for an Australian Television Program that will be visiting the area in June and they would like to film the festival.
Any information regarding whether this even is going to take place would be very much appreciated,
Thank you,
Aleisha McCormack
Hello VTers
I'm planned for Kunming from Shanghai on late night of April 16. And next two days (April 17, Thursday& 18, Friday) I want to utilize for sightseeing at Kunming.
I booked the hotel at Royal Garden, very near (about 400 meter) from Kunming airport.
Would you pls suggest me any itinerary for those 2 days. I don't want to miss any must seeing places, communities and enjoyable areas. Also suggest me very nearby electronic market from where I can buy an LCD TV.
I would be grateful for your any tips and plans.
Thank you.
Has anyone flown with Lucky Air? I am looking for a ticket from Lijiang to Kunming and they have something really cheap 60% off. Should I steer clear or go for it?
thanks
Hoping someone can help me with a trip here. I'm planning to go at end of December as this is the time I have available. I want to see the main places in 16 days (Kunming, Lijiang, Dali, Tiger Leaping Gorge, Zhongdian). I would also like to fit in 3 days in Guilin/Yangshuo and think that I can do this on the way as I will be flying to Guangzhou.
1. Is December a decent time to go? I heard that the Li river doesn't do boat rides all the way to Yangshao (I know this is not in Yunnan).
2. Will there be enough time to see the places listed (14 days in total as 1 day each way to fly to China)?
3. Is it possible to fly from Zhongdian back to Guangzhou? Or maybe from Zhongdian to Guilin?
