We are going to positano for a few days from rome. Planned to vist pompeii one afternoon / early evening. Is the area around pompeii worth staying in rather than heading on to amalfi late in the evening. Any tips on small hotels worth staying in either there or towards amalfi?@

My mum, who walks with a stick, is going to Naples in September. I was wondering how difficult it was to get around the site. I've been to Ephesus in Turkey and know she could do that one but have no idea about Pompei.

I will also be visiting Italy and Pompei for the first time in October and was wondering if you could give me an idea of what sort of weather/temperatures to expect at this time of year (5 - 11 Oct) so I know what to pack!

My husband and I are traveling to Italy for 16 days in September and would love to take a day trip to see the ruins of Pompeii - is this possible? Is this possible and is the train the best and easiest way to get there - how long of a train ride is it?

so, I visited their hompage 'ARETHUSA', but it seems like
they don't have english version.

Can anyone help me find a shop that sells Cameo rings in Pompeii? My mother in law bought a very simple ring for my daughter, and it has been lost. Since that time my mother in law has passed away and the loss of the ring is really a stinger for my daughter. I have great pictures of it (she also gave the same ring to other grandchildren) and could forward them to anyone that would possibly be able to help. Does anybody know a good (v. cheap!! we are students!) place to stay around there from which it would be possible to spend a day seeing the area? I have no idea exactly what it's like or how far away things are from each other. What is transport like? If i were to stay in Naples could we get a bus easily to Vesuvias etc? How long would it take? I went to Rome and Florence last year so Pompeii is a left over trip from then, but it is a must see!! If we could find a place to stay in Naples, presumably we would have to get the train down to there and then fly back to the Uk from Rome..but we're pushed for money so want to do it the easiest, cheapest way. Please help! I will be buying a tourist guide, but we need to book soon! Thanks a lot

I will be traveling from Rome to Positano the end of May and wanted to stop in Pompei. Is there a place to check luggage at the train station while I tour Pompei?

Hi -- Can anyone recommend someone who might be able to act as an interpreter during a trip to Pompeii? I'm going to be travelling there in mid-May to interview one of the archaeologists, who doesn't speak English (unfortunately, I don't speak Italian!) Any contacts much appreciated.

I'm planning to spend a day in Pompei (Dep from Rome@6:45AM & Arr in Pompei@ 9:30AM). The plan is to spend time at the ruins, until closing time (which is 5PM in mid March). Since I'm opting to catch the Eurostar train back to Rome at 8:57PM, I was wondering what it is that I might be able to do between the time I leave the ruins to the time I board the train. Any suggestion/s is/are really welcome.
Should I try to see the museum in Naples that is so much talked about on this forum, or should I wander in Pomei downtown? Or should I just consider catching an earlier train (in which case I won't be able to use the return Eurostar, since the earliest Eurostar from Pompeii is at 8:57PM). FYI. Since I'll be travelling with a toddler, please suggest accordingly. Thank you all very much :)

I'm trying to purchase tickets to visit Pompei from Rome. I'm particularly interested in the Eurostar. But I don't understand the 'Fare Description' that appears on the Trenitalia website. For instance: What do 'Carta Argento' or 'Intera' mean? Fares are different with different options, but I really don't know what they mean. Can someone please point me to the correct website? I believe I'm using the English version. Thanks

I will be traveling thru Italy with 2 teenagers in June, and we will be extending our stay by two or three days following Rome to see Pompeii and I would also ike to see Amalfi coast. I have been told to stay in Sorrento as my base and to travel from there to see these areas. I welcome your advice, this forum is amazing, filled with great tips that I have already saved regarding trains from Rome, etc. Thank you in advance

We will be taking the train in 2 weeks from Rome to Naples & then on to Sorrento for one night so that we can spend a day at Pompeii. Our problem is trying to figure out whether to stop in Pompeii on the way there & catch the train to Sorrento afterwards or go straight to Sorrento, stay the night & stop in Pompeii on the way back. We will only have a very small bag that we can place in a locker at Pompeii if needed. We were not sure if catching trains without a definite time schedule would be a problem. I know we want to spend most of the day in Pompeii and I am presuming that I will need to book the trip back before we leave Rome. Thanks a bunch!

My family will be on a Med. cruise in June. We'll be arriving at the port in Naples on June 17 and would like to get to Pompei. I know that there's a train that goes from Naples to Pompei, but does anyone know how to get from the port to the train station?

My friend and I are going to arrive in Pompeii around 3 pm and was wondering how much daylight would we have left to do some small sightseeing? The 3 pm is also after checking into our hotel. We are excited about coming. Also, the next day we plan on Herculaneum. We are not avid hikers but want to do some exploration. Can we do Mt Vesuvius and Herculaneum in one day? Thank you.

I have checked on Trenitalia website. When I search from Rome to Pompei, it shows that I can stop at Pompei station by FS. But from the forum, they said I have to take Circumvesuviana from Naples to Pompei. Do I have to take Circumvesuviana ? Or I can just buy the ticket from FS for Rome to Pompei.

How far is the FS Pompei station to the Pompei entrance?

I am contemplating going to Naples and Pompei from Rome. Can they comfortably be done in a day as an excursion? I want to go to the Archeaological Museum in Naples. Or, should I figure on spending a night?

Our family wish to stay outside of Naples and preferably to the west. We will drive to Pompei and Vesuvius and train it into Naples one day.
Can anyone recommend a beach resort please? Many thanks in anticipation.

We will be traveling through Italy this summer, but unfortunatly there is one very important tour we will miss, Pompeii. Fortunatly the final day of tour will be in Rome. We want to add an extra day to see Pompeii. Any sugguestions on how we might do this.
Questions:
Are there quided tours from Rome, is there bus or train service, or should we rent a car and drive? If we do it on our own, recommandations on tour guides once in Pompeii. What kind of cost are we looking at?

I have one day in port at Naples. I was planning on taking the train to Pompeii to see thr ruins, then taking a boat to Capri and then a bpat to Naples. You think that's do-able in 8 hours?

Hey all, is there some kind of tour offered for Mt. Vesuvius? We will be in ROme in May, and would like to take a trip down to Pompeii. Would love to see Vesuvio up close and personal. Not sure what, if anything, is offered. Helicopter tours?

My husband and I are only staying for one day in Naples to visit Pompeii and Capri island on March.

We found that Naple Hotels are too expensive and the Youth Hostel is very far away from the Napoli Centrale Station, so instead of staying in Naples we decided to stay in Pompeii.

Could you please recomend us a cheap but clean hotel, hostal... nearby the Pompeii Scavi Station?

We'll be staying in Naples, and have one day planned to tour Pompei.

Please recomnend the best way to plan this day.

Should we "bite the bullet" and hire a private tour . . . or group tour . . . or make our own way to Pompei and tour ourselves ??

We're leaning towards private tour unless one has a better suggestion.

We're seasoned travelers, and don't mind "making our way" . . . but want to make sure we take it all in !!!

Please help with your input.
