| Jiuzhaigou | Jiuzhaigou - Earthquake effects Posted: Thu May 15, 2008 02:42 AM UTC
The roads from Chengdu to Jiuzhaigou are blocked due to the earthquake of 12th May 2008 and are expected to remain that way for some time. The best way to get to Jiuzhaigou is to fly although the government has warned against any unnecessary travel to the whole region for the moment.
Jiuzhaigou did not experience any significant damage during the earthquake. No hotels or businesses appear to have been damaged. Mobile phone and internet connections are still working but some remain cut off from electricity at the moment. Many businesses have generators however. Inside Jiuzhaigou National Park there have been no rock slides or land slips. Rocks did fall from the cliffs during the big earthquake but no injuries or significant damage have been reported. The scenery in the park is spectacular at the moment. All the trees are green, wild flowers are in bloom and the sun is shining. I suggest contacting the park and/or your travel agent for latest reports on Jiuzhaigou. |

| Chengdu | Is Air China charging to change flights in/out of Chengdu? Posted: Wed May 14, 2008 01:46 AM UTC
I am due to be in Chengdu on Friday for 4 nights but I will not be able to do all the tours I planned due the earthquake (such as the Wolong Panda Preserve). Also, if there is death and destruction in the city itself, I will want to leave early.
I see where Dragonair is not charging for rebooking flights away from Chengdu, but is Air China or the other Chinese airlines following suit? Does anybody know if the city is crowded with media right now? Or if flights are full? I couldn't have picked a worse time to be there, and it doesn't seem proper to be touring if the city is in bad shape but then again, people who live there may just want to get on with their lives. Any thoughts? |

| Jiuzhaigou | Nature Park Posted: Sun May 11, 2008 12:00 PM UTC
We are hoping to go to the Jiuzhaigou Nature Park early next month. What is the best way to get there from Guangzhou? We have about 5 days spare on our business trip to visit this area. As we do not speak Chinese do you think it would be best to book through a travel agent. Also we live near the beach, will we need to take altitude sickness medication with us?
Thanks heaps. |

| Chengdu | Climbing Emei Shan, and other questions regarding Chengdu Posted: Fri April 18, 2008 02:47 PM UTC
Hello everyone,
I'm going to be in Chengdu in a week or two, and am hoping to climb Emei Shan with my girlfriend. I just want to ask a few questions regarding it. Firstly, how long does it take to get from Chengdu to Emei Shan by bus? Is there an admission price in order to climb it? I've heard you can start your climb at different points on the mountain. Is it a good idea to start from the very bottom of the trail, or is recommended we start a little further up? I've also read that there are guesthouses on the way up, since it takes a few days to climb and descend; are these guesthouses expensive? How frequent are they on the climb? Also, we don't want to bring all our heavy luggage on the trip and would prefer to leave most of it in Chengdu while climbing the mountain. Should we rent out a hotel room just to leave the luggage in there, or is there a more economical way of keeping it in the city, like in safes or lockers of some kind perhaps? And regarding other things to do in Chengdu: we are hoping to see the Panda breeding centre, Le Shan giant Buddha, Wenchu Temple, Du Fu's Thatched Cottage and perhaps get a bus to Jiuzhaigou if we feel we have the time and money. Can anyone recommend any other fun things to see and do in and around Chengdu city? Any interesting experiences to be had? I know there are a lot of questions here, which I hope is okay. As always, any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks very much, Jim |

| Jiuzhaigou | Juizhaigou in March Posted: Tue January 8, 2008 10:05 PM UTC
Hello
I am travelling through China in February and March, and my friend desperately wants to see Juizhaigou. However, I'm worried about the weather conditions, especially snow and ice. Is it safe to go to Juizhaigou at this time? Would it be better to go at the beginning of the trip in February, or save it closer to the end in mid-March? Also, is the scenery at this time worth the trip?? Thanks for your help!! |

| Jiuzhaigou | Sheraton Jiuzhaigou Posted: Sun November 4, 2007 06:21 AM UTC
I'm planning a trip to Jiuzhaigou in April. I tried to reserve a room at the Sheraton from their website but its telling me that no rooms are available. I find that hard to believe. Is it too early to try and reserve something for April? Any recommendations for an alternate hotel? I'm arriving midday. From the airport is it recommended that we drive to Huang Long before checking in? We reserved two full days for tour of Jiuzhaigou park...too long, too short?

| Jiuzhaigou | Jiuzhaigou Park - Buying Ticket in Advance Posted: Wed September 12, 2007 04:13 AM UTC
We will be in Jiuzhaigou in late October 2007 (next month Yah!). Is there anyway to purchase the park tickets directly from the park, prior to our visit.
My concern is that I have heard that Jiuzhaigou Park is already sold out for National Day Week, and I would hate to get all the way to the park and find out its sold out. Anyone know if the park ticket can be purchased in advance? (we are not on a tour) Thanks in advance! MRYF |

Hello,
Grateful if anyone could advise on how I should go about in planning my itinerary with the following info :- 1. Would be starting my journey from Macau. ( Oct / Nov ) 2. Plan to travel to Chendu before embarking to Jiuzhaigou. My questions are :- 1. The easiest, faster & cheapest way to Chendu from Macau or Hong Kong ? 2. Which are the easiest & cheaper way of securing domestic flights in China ? Local travel agent or in the airport itself ? 3. The minimum number of days that needed to cover from Chendu to Jiuzhaigou ? Tks a lot ! |

| Chengdu | 4 days in Chengdu Posted: Mon June 25, 2007 06:43 PM UTC
I'll be arriving on the 10th of July in the evening and leaving on the 14th in th afternoon. That basically gives me 3,5 days to explore Chengdu. I was thinking about doing the following:
- 11th: visit panda reserve early in the morning + some more sights in the afternoon - 14th: some more sights in the morning --> which sights (temples, parcs, tea houses, ...) would you recommend to fill up the afternoon on the 11th and the morning on the 14th? - 12th: Mt. Emei. I love hiking and would like to go there really early. How can I get there and how can I get back. Is this feasable for a 1 day trip? If not, is there an alternative? (besides the scenery, I would love to see the monkies as well). - 13th: great Buddha. Same question here. How can I get there early in the morning and how can I get back? Is there something else close to the great buddha worth visiting or can I fill a whole day with this trip? And finally, I would love to taste the Chendu food (I heard soo much about it). Where would be a good place for me to go in the evening for dinner. I'm a female travelling on my own, so safety is definately a concern. Thanks a lot!! |

| Jiuzhaigou | Need your advices for trip to Jiuzhaigou - Oct.2007 Posted: Tue May 8, 2007 09:50 AM UTC
Hi all,
We are planning to go to Jiuzhaigou at 16.10.07, and I have many wonders : + Is it difficult to buy entrance ticket at that time-I afraid it's too crowded, may we buy the ticket in advance and ask the hostel to do this service? + May we buy ticket for 2 days, we would like to stay there in 2 days? + Can we stay in the park at night? + We would like to take a bus or renting minivan/taxi from Jiuzhaigou to Langmusi then go to Xining, there are any travel agency can arrange that. + Finally, how crowded in the park at that time, and how to avoid that crowd. Thank you very much for your advices. Your help was highly appreciated. |

Is it possible to take a bus from Chengdu to Wolong to see the Pandas, and then continue to Jiuzhaigou and then back to Chengdu? Or in the other direction? I read that there is places to stay over night inside the park. How do I find these places? Are they far into the park? Greatful for all useful tips! Christine |
