| Reggio di Calabria | Palermo to Reggio Di Calabria and away! Posted: Mon April 28, 2008 05:13 AM UTC
WE are in Palermo in May. We thought we would go up to Reggio Di Calabria from there; hire a car and drive North.
2 questions. 1.Best way to get from Palermo to Reggio Di Calabria (safely..with luggage)(IE: Is there a Ferry or train??) 2. Any reccomendations on good place to hire car in Reggio Di Calabria - preferably not in the middle of town as we will be a little nervous driving in Italy at first (we are from Australia)? We want to take the hire car right up and leave at a town somewhere near Florence in a few days / 1 week after a nice back roads drive! Many thanks for any reccomendations you may have. |

| Reggio di Calabria | Question re Reggio di Calabria and Scilla Posted: Thu June 8, 2006 06:00 PM UTC
Hi Everybody, I'm dstined for Italian language school (3 months) in Reggio and am hearing that I may not want to spend as much time there as I had originally thought. I understand Scilla is nearby and perhaps its possible to commute. I'm on scholarship so am committed to the general area. Any ideas re the buses, perhaps renting cars. I understand the bus is approx. a 20 min. ride, but am having trouble locating an address for the school which is the Dante Alighieri School in Reggio. Anybody got any ideas?
In addition to the wonderful opportunity for extended study, I want to enjoy the scenery, cultural experience and most of all the ancient buidings of Southern Italy. I am open to any suggestions. THanks to you all and I wish you a great day! Luchia |

| Reggio di Calabria | Where is Sermi Crichi? Posted: Mon January 16, 2006 06:04 PM UTC
Can someone direct me to a good map that points out where Sermi Crichi is located? I've been told that it's close to Catanzaro...yes? Also, is this a tiny village where there's only olive trees and tomatoe gardens, or will I be able to find an apartment to rent with modern amenities and places to go out to at nite for a 20-something? Cheers.

| Reggio di Calabria | Calabria / Messina Info Posted: Sun January 1, 2006 08:06 PM UTC
Greetings from America:
My wife and I are planning one of our annual fall European trips to seek out new places to visit. We would like to return to Italy, and have considered Reggio di Calabria and Messina to spend some time before we head up to the Netherlands as it is always our last stop in Europe to visit with friends. We would like to link up with local fellow VTer's who live local in the area to help us with our planning .... All help and suggestions would be appreciated, as this would be a new area to us. We spent a month in Italy visitng: Venice - Sorrento - Capri & Rome, so now we want to head further south. Check out our "Homepage" to see our travels, and the fellow VTer's we have met .... | Reggio di Calabria | San Pietro and Borgia exploration Posted: Tue April 27, 2004 03:40 PM UTC
Mia Nonna's family is from San Pietro and Calabria. I will arrive in Italy on July 22nd and wish to explore these two areas in hopes of understanding more about the history. Which airport is best to arrive at, which train. is it safe for a woman travelling alone? I will have about 9 days to explore there. My grandmother's name is Concetta Grandinetti and her parents were both orphans who worked for the same household. Her mother (who had the same name) was the cleaning lady and her father Giovanni was the gardener. They travelled to Ellis Island in their youth to settle in Columbia County New York. My Great Aunt Francesca Grandinetti married Phil Laporta, who was also straight from Calabria. It has been difficult for my family to find out any information about family in Italy, since my grnadmother's parents were orphans. Any information about travel to these 2 towns would be greatly appreciated.
