Rome Bed and breakfast in Rome for July
Posted: Fri May 9, 2008 04:10 PM UTC
Hello!
We are planing to go to Rome for the first time in the begining of July and we are now checking the accomodation. We are focused on bed & breakfast since they are many and look fine, with private bathroom and ... well, not very expensive! Apparently the begining of July in Rome doesn´t seem to be high season and we have found one near Termini station, is called Piumith B&B and they have availability and great price 70 euros, before we book it we wanted to find any more information, comments but it seems there are none. Has anyone ever been there? Or can give us an idea about something else?
Thank you in advance!

Rome Getting to the Catacombs
Posted: Fri May 9, 2008 10:33 AM UTC
I was wanting to know how I can get to the Catacombs of San Sebastiano or of Domitilla with a rather large group of students. We do not have a coach/touring car so it would have to be via public transport.

Does anyone know if there is a good bus or train connection with either of these 'venues' ?

Thanks

Rome Vatican Museum pre-book tour
Posted: Thu May 8, 2008 09:35 PM UTC
I posted this in the Vatican forum as well, but thought I would try here, too.

I'd like to go to the Vatican Museum while I'm there, but I would rather not get there at 6am and wait in line all day! I had found a place that offered 2-hour tours (which is all I would really need. I'd like to see the Museum but don't feel like I need to be there all day), but I can't seem to find it again. Does anyone know of anything like this that I can book in advance? Thanks.

Rome Train reservations
Posted: Tue May 6, 2008 01:03 AM UTC
I will arrive at Flumicino at 9:00 A. M. on a Sunday. Then my daughter and I plan to travel by train to Cinque Terre (Monterrosso) My questions are:

What is the quickest transportation to the train station and what train station should we use?

Should we make a reservation for the train and If so how much time should we allow to go through customs, getting baggage and transportation to the train station?

My concern is if my plane is late and I miss the train reservation.

I am traveling from NYC to Rome on Iberia. I, unfortunately, have a hour and a half layover in Madrid. Can anyone tell me about the Layover and plane switching routine in Madrid? I know sometimes you must get your bag and recheck it...is this the case?

will i have to go through customs again?

Please help.

Rome How much time to catch a connecting flight?
Posted: Mon May 5, 2008 04:51 PM UTC
I tried to book a direct flight on Myair.com from Venice to Palermo, but I wasn't able to get the transaction processed. I'm guessing this is because I'm trying to use a U.S. credit card. The only options I've been able to find using a U.S. credit card would need to change planes in Rome. The flight I'm looking at arrives at Fiumicino (FCO) at 12:20 and leaves at 1:15. Luggage would be checked through to Palermo. Is this enough time? I'd arrive at terminal A, but it doesn't mention where I'd depart from. Also, does anyone happen to know a travel agent who'd take a U.S. credit card for a non-stop flight? I've checked travelocity and orbitz, but think I might have better luck with an actual person.

Thank you!

Hi everyone,

I will be flying out from Frankfurt on the 25th May 2008, and planned to stay in Rome for 2 nights, before leaving home for Kuala Lumpur on the 27th noon. However, I need some information on th following:

(a) Is there a left-baggage facility available at the airport? How much is the cost?

(b) What are my transportation options to the city?

(c) Can somebody recommend me a cheap place to stay? My budget is less than Eur100@night@double bed room.

Many thanks in advance

Rome Best way to get from Termini to Forum
Posted: Fri May 2, 2008 12:11 AM UTC
Hello all- We are coming in from Ciampano Airport to Termini Station via Terravision. Our B&B is right near the Forum. It will be about 9:00 at night when we get to Termini Station. What would be the best way on public transportation to our B&B? Is it walkable? Would it be a safe walk? Wrote the owner of the B&B, but our answer was in broken english and confusing. Any replies appreciated- thanks!

Rome Re di Roma
Posted: Thu May 1, 2008 12:32 PM UTC
We have reservations in October at the Hotel Re di Roma on Via Vercelli. I know it is close to both the Re di Roma and San Giovanni metro stations.

My question is....how difficult is it to get to Rome centro, the Pantheon area, Trastevere, etc from where we will be staying? I know the metro does not go to those areas but are buses easy or is it better to use taxis?

Any advice or suggestions would be great. We also reserved in centro but of course the rate is much higher.

Thanks,
Karen

Rome Rome in late Jan: good or bad idea?
Posted: Wed April 30, 2008 06:55 AM UTC
I wanted to go to Rome this year but we couldn't manage so instead we're contemplating to visit it in late Jan 2009 - in time for my 30th birthday :D

What I wonder is if it's a good or bad idea in the sense of:
- not as many sun hours: meaning that maybe we won't be able to appreciate the ruins like we would in, say May.
- not many sights opened due to less tourist being in town?

Now, I live in Sweden so by Jan I'm used to not having a lot of sun hours and to the cold so those 2 wouldn't so much of a change/challenge for me.

Also, is it so noisy in Rome that you hear noise from the street no matter where you sleep (as in a room in the back of a hotel/hostel or a room in the front)?
No matter how luxurious a hotel/hostel is, we always find bad reviews about it on tripadvisor.com and that sort of worries me because I don't want to spend half my budget in accommodations and at the same time I want to have a good night's sleep (Mr. Sweden is a light sleeper). I understand, however, that a big city is bound to be noisy.

Any other tips you can give me are welcome. If there are other locations that suit us best then by all means go ahead and tell us. We're not into winter sports (we can do that here) and I don't know yet but we hope to be pregnant by then (less than 6 months tho! we start working on that later this year :D).

Rome cheap guides
Posted: Mon April 28, 2008 04:01 PM UTC
Hello all- We will be in Rome at the end of May, and plan to spend a day at the Colisuem, Palatine hill and the Forum. I've read advice about purchasing the tickets at Palatine hill, which we will do. My question is, will the audio tour be available at Palatine hill? I understand there is an audio tour for the Colisuem, does it include all three? Has anyone used the audio tour and is it good? Another option would be a guide to all three- can anyone suggest a cheap guide- if there is such a thing, and do they hang around out front of the Colisuem? Any repies appreciated! Thanks--

Rome Rome hotels?
Posted: Sun April 27, 2008 04:01 PM UTC
Hi, could someone help with these questions.
1. If staying in Rome West, is it easy to still get to all the major tourist attractions? What transportation is available from this area to those sites?
2. Does anyone know about a tour that takes you under the Vatican to where the burial place of St. Peter is? I read somewhere about this and was wondering if it did exist?

Rome Rome help
Posted: Sun April 27, 2008 02:08 PM UTC
Our family of 5 will be in Rome mid June. Our apartment is a few blocks north of Piazza Navona. I am trying to arrange transportation from the airport. I have read that taxis only take 4 people. Will they do 5 if one sits on my lap? Also, what is the best way to avoid the lines at the Vatican? I have investigated tour guides, but so far it looks prohibitively expensive for 5 people. Any ideas? I would welcome any suggestions for how to make our Rome trip the best it can be. The kids are 12, 15, 18, and we will be there for 3 days. We will then train to Florence. Should we get our train tix here in the US, or wait til we get to Rome??? Thank you for any help!

Rome Termini lockers
Posted: Sun April 27, 2008 08:46 AM UTC
16 years ago there was huge lockers in Termini station, and they weren´t expensive. We were on interrail, and got our backbacks there for little money.Does anyone know are they still there? We are leaving to airport so early in the morning(night),that we might want a hotel near airport,if we find a cheap one.but we wouldn´t want to go there to take our luggage in the daytime,so we are hoping to find a place to keep our luiggage for one day, from noon to evening. And not too expensive.

3° The Palatine hill with its monuments.

The "Campidoglio/Capitoline Hill" group is split into:

Rome nice quality hotel in Rome that won't totally break the bank
Posted: Sat April 26, 2008 08:16 AM UTC
Hi,

I am wondering if anyone can suggest a hotel that would be a solid 3-4 star in Rome that is within walking distance of many of the major tourist sites? The trip is planned for the end of September and is for two women who are in their 60's. If anyone knows of any reasonably priced hotels, I would appreciate that.

Many thanks

Rome Apartment rental for 100euro?
Posted: Thu April 24, 2008 04:31 PM UTC
I've been looking on this website for an apartment: http://www.rentalinrome.com/index.htm Is this a good site to use? It'll be me and my boyfriend and we're looking for a nice apartment centrally located but not necessarily in the middle of a crazy tourist section. Somewhere cute and hip. Anyone have any suggestions? Also what's the easiest way to get from Fiumicino to the center of Rome?
