Ko Chang Riding a motorbike
Posted: Mon October 5, 2009 10:17 PM UTC
Hi,

It will be my first time on Ko Chang. I like to get around on a motorbike as I have done previously on island's like Ko Phangan & Ko Samui. I was wondering if the roads are safe to ride on. I would probably be travelling from White Sand Beach to as far as Kai Bae Beach & Lonely Beach. I know some of the roads are bad & I don't want to take chances but it would be good if this stretch of road was OK. Also how long would it take to ride this stretch & do you have to wear a helmet (good advise I know but is it enforced).

Ko Chang Best time to visit November/December or February
Posted: Sat March 28, 2009 08:56 PM UTC
We are thinking of taking our honeymoon on Ko Chang & would like to know when would be the best time to go? I have been trying to find info on the web but would like some personal advice.
We have read that it can get quite cold in the evenings during November/December due to evening winds & that the sea is too rough to swim in also at that time. However we would like to go when it is quieter & not too hot during the day.
Would we be better off going in February? Is the sea calmer then & is it OK in the evenings?
Any advice is much appreciated.

regards,
P

Ko Chang Has Ko Chang changed this much?
Posted: Sun March 22, 2009 05:15 PM UTC
Hi, I visited Ko Chang for the first time in the summer of 2003 and loved every bit of it, I stayed in an affordable hut on Lonely Beach. Upon my return in 2005 little had changed besides the construction of new resorts. When I returned yet again in 2006 I noticed that a car ferry had been brought there, this changed everything.

I'm looking for a fresh update by someone who's been there recently, I'd like to know how busy the place is, what kind of people are traveling there, whether affordable backpacker accomodation is still available.. these sorts of things.

Thanks!

Would be glad if anyone can let me know if it is possible to get certain medications at the hospital in Ko Chang? My husband takes a tablet that isn't prescribed in the UK only here in France. We hope to bring enough medication with us but in the event of loss of said med. this could be be a problem.

Any advice grateful received.

Ko Chang Ko Chang for 'oldies'
Posted: Fri August 1, 2008 05:51 PM UTC
After living in Hong Kong for many years (years ago) and visiting Thailand fairly often we would like to return, travelling cheaply as before. We're a good deal older this time and wonder if we will be the oldest backpackers in Thailand. We're in our mid to late 60's now and still fit. We enjoy the company of the young however don't want to feel too out of place! We have heard good things about Ko Chang which we have not visited before.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Many thanks (hopefully) in advance.

Hello,
I'm heading to White Sand Beach in just over a week and was curious as to if I should book something before going or if we'll be able to find a nice bungalow for pretty cheap on the beach?

Ko Chang Transport Options to Ko Chang
Posted: Sat December 22, 2007 02:07 PM UTC
I'm coming from KL to Ko Chang on 26 Jan and prefer to avoid Bangkok. Does anyone know if planes go direct to Trat from KL?

Other alternatives: I gather there is a train from Ekhamai although I can't see it goes anywhere near Trat. Does anyone know please?

Ko Chang Bus ticket from Ekkamai to Koh Chang

Hi, my flight lands in Bangkok from Hong Kong at 02:30am on 2nd/Feb/08. We would like to catch the earliest bus from Eastern Bus Terminal(Ekkamai)at 07:45am to Center Point Pier (Trat).
Our questions are:
1)How long does the taxi take from the airport to Eastern Bus Terminal?
2)Is it possible to buy the bus tickets at the bus station that early in the morning?
3) Is there any website we can book the bus tickets online?
Many thanks.

Ko Chang Klong Prao/Lonely Beach/KL
Posted: Sat December 1, 2007 06:46 PM UTC
I go to Ko Chang in January (26) and plan to go to Lonely Beach but want to book before I go. Found something on Klong Prao but not sure where it is in relation to Lonely Beach. Does anyone know if there is a map of Ko Chang which gives distances and beaches?

Also I have to fly back from KL and not sure how long it will take? (bus/train or plane) which is best?

Any info would be welcome

Ko Chang Ko Chang in October - Where to stay and what to do!
Posted: Wed October 10, 2007 11:16 AM UTC
Hello,

I'm off to Ko Chang with friends and family in a couple of weeks. We really want to go somewhere close to Bangkok as we only have 12 days, so Ko Chang seemed to be the sensible option.

Does anyone have any recommendations on where to stay (budget but nice - looking to spend maybe £10-£15 per night) and what to do when we are there?

Or, if you think i should head somewhere else i'd be glad to know also,

thanks

Ko Chang ko Chang or Koh Samui
Posted: Thu August 23, 2007 03:28 PM UTC
Hi everyone,

Can you please help me.
I'm going to Thailand for the 1st time in October.
After spending a few days in Bangkok and then I want to head south.

I've been reading around and narrowed my search to either Ko Chang or Koh Saumu.

Can anyone make a recommendation on which is best?

I'm looking for something thats fairly quite but not too quite. Generally away from the 'partying' crowds and 'girly bars'
Somewhere with nice beaches, somewhere to chill out, kayak, preferably near nature reserves and nice local food.

Thanks in advance

Ko Chang phuket or ko kut?
Posted: Mon July 23, 2007 05:03 AM UTC
Sorry in advance for the long post. I am going to Thailand in December - January with some Thai friends. I have been given the option of a 4 day/3night trip to Phuket or a 4 day/3 night trip to Ko Kut.

Previously, I visited Ko Samet with my friends which was very enjoyable. We stayed in a beach cottage on a fairly secluded bay with a very nice clean beach. There was a much busier beach a short walk away with many more tourists which was fun to see for an evening and good for food and drinks, but not really my thing. I preferred the quiet beach, walking, swimming, snorkeling, canoeing, and the lovely locals we met.

However, knowing that Phuket / Krabi / Phi Phi are considered some of the most beautiful scenic areas in the world, it is a bit hard to pass up a trip there. I also know that Ko Kut is going to be about half the price of a stay in Phuket.

Can anyone with experience help me out with this decision? In Phuket, we would be traveling with a friend who lives nearby, so would having a car give us options to visit places more secluded but still spectacular? Can the scenery of Ko Kut possibly live up to the Andaman coast?

Ko Chang Weather in August
Posted: Sun April 15, 2007 06:06 PM UTC
I have always wanted to visit Ko chang but can only get there in August which I understand is the wet season. Is it worth visiting then? We dont mind some rain showers as long as the sun appears in between! How busy would the island be then, don't fancy being the only ones in the resorts!
