Suggestions for a short vacation in Chiang Mai Posted: Thu November 5, 2009 03:51 AM UTC
Would be grateful for suggestions for my upcoming trip to Chiang Mai sometime end Nov/early Dec this year. There will be 6 of us - wife, 2 kids (teenagers) plus my in-laws who are elderly and while they are still relatively mobile they are unable to be out the entire day. So I'll be looking for a hotel somewhere in the city area.
Activities that may be of interest:
For my kids, something adventurous or unique would appeal to them. For my wife & in-laws, something cultural (say, visiting temples), shopping, crafts maybe, & perhaps short day-trips out of Chiang Mai.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Palaad Tawanron Restaurant Posted: Sat October 24, 2009 07:20 AM UTC
Hi Guys,
I read about this fabulous restaurant, Palaad Tawanron on the lower slopes of the moutain above the CM zoo, behind Chiang Mai University. Does anyone know what is the distance from the city center to this place? Also, will it be a problem if we take taxi/tuk tuk here? As in is it difficult to get taxi/tuk tuk back from here to the town center?

Hypermarket nearest to Le Meridien Hotel, Chiang Mai Posted: Fri October 23, 2009 04:58 PM UTC
Hi Guys!
Which hypermarket is the nearest to the Le Meridien Hotel, Chiang Mai? Tesco Lotus (which branch) or Carrefour? I can easily find out the actual address from their website, but I just won't know which location is nearer...

Chiang Mai Floating Restaurant Posted: Thu October 22, 2009 09:13 PM UTC
Hi Guys!
I read that the Chiang Mai Floating Restaurant is good (Ruen Phae). There are 2 branches. Which branch is nearer to the city (in km/minutes)? Or else, nearer to either Tesco Lotus or Carrefour? If we go we will have to take a tuk tuk or taxi there. Will there be a problem to get transport back from the restaurant? What is their operating hours like? Any day that they are close?

Temperature Variance Posted: Thu October 22, 2009 04:40 PM UTC
We will be in Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai for 6 nights from Nov 29 till Dec 5. Checked the weather website, which states that the temperature ranges from Low of 13'c to high of 29'c. CR is slightly lower. What a huge difference in a day! Example, CM for Dec 4th, '08 - Low 14'c and high 29'c! How to pack??? Is it really that noticible?

Khantok Dinner Posted: Thu October 22, 2009 04:09 PM UTC
We will be in Chiang Mai for 3 nights as well as another 3 nights in Chiang Rai. Read about Khantok Dinner at :
Khum Khantok. THB300/pax. Includes Khon performance. Housed in a magnificent and massive Lanna building. P/up from hotel.
2. Old Chiang Mai Khantok. THB370/pax. P/up from hotel.
3. Khum Kaew Palace Khantok. THB200 per person. Traditional and hill tribe dances. Transportation included.
Which of these is better? It will be good if I can see the Khon performance since I, despite being half Thai, has yet to see that! But ambience is also a consideration as well as tasty food. Not really into audience participation, so don't really want Ramwong...
Also, since I will also be in Chiang Rai, is it better for me to wait for Khantok Dinner there? Any recommendation, please?

Chiang Mai flights Posted: Thu August 27, 2009 06:56 AM UTC
We are arriving in Bangkok at 14.40 and would like to catch the flight to Chiang Mai at 17.15 from Thai Air. Since our journey involves connections, we are a little concerned about our luggage not arriving on time, and would like to entertain the possibility that we may have to overnight in Bangkok.
Is it possible to buy flight tickets to Chiang Mai from Thai Air at the airport, or must be book in advance?
What are the chances of there being place on the flight at the end of September? Are these flights usually booked up?
Thank you

Why do the same hotel rates differ place to place? Posted: Sun February 22, 2009 01:18 PM UTC
Hi
I looked up Montrara Happy House on a few sites looking for rates
I found that Montrara's website quotes THB2300 for the room for 3 nights
Then I look at hotels2thailand and they quote THB1850 foor the same room for 3 nights
Is there some kind of catch? Why does each site have differing prices? If I book through a site like hotels2thailand can I trust I will have my booking done?
Thanks
matt

Any factual info on the situation currently in there?

Chang Mai _ dogs? Posted: Sat January 31, 2009 07:18 PM UTC
I have been looking for accomodations in Chang Mai 2 adults 2 children
I have looked at the Holiday inn, and on the flipside the Castle hotel and the Parasol Inn which are closer to the main city than the Holiday Inn . . . all sound Ok but I have read a few comments on trip advisor about dogs barking at night.
Can anyone comment, on the hotels and on the apparent problem of the stray dogs night time symphony?

Tuk Tuk during hot season Posted: Wed January 21, 2009 04:27 PM UTC
Would love to hire a Tuk Tuk for local tour of Chiang mai. Since we have no choice but to travel during the hot season...any suggestions. Do want to do a trek..any ideas how to travel during that time but without getting heat exhaustion. Any places to swim in the northern part...waterfall..should stay in accomodation with a/c or pool. Doesn't have to be expensive...just clean.
Thanks
