Ko Lanta Best resorts in Ko Lanta?
Posted: Fri September 16, 2005 09:19 PM UTC
Hi there,
We are going to Ko Lanta in November and we have been told that after the tsunami, most of the infrastructure should be up and running but how about the coast and the beach? We have been told that some parts of the coast might have suffered (coral beds, etc...) and might not be as nice for diving and snorkeling.
Would you know what are the best beaches to go and enjoy at least the snorkeling? Any knowledge of beaches that would be better to avoid (because of mass tourism or damage to the marine landscape)?

Thanks, guys!

Posted: Fri January 21, 2005 03:06 AM UTC
Hi Travellers,

I was booked into a resort on Ko Lanta for my honeymoon next month but due to the terrible disaster that hit the southern Thailand coast my booking has been cancelled. Does anyone know of resorts that are still operating, preferably at the southern end of Ko Lanta Yai?

Any advice, suggestions appreciated.

Ko Lanta ?Friends safe Ko Lanta/Klong Nin Beach, after tsunami?
Posted: Tue January 11, 2005 02:08 AM UTC
I would be really grateful if someone could help me with information about friends I am so worried about who live on Klong Nin Beach, Ko Lanta Yai, following the tsunami. I am especially worried about Wan, a young Thai woman, who runs the bar at Sunset Bungalows, and her friend Daniel, who is blind, and from Germany. Also Otto and Trang and their daughter at Otto Bar, and Charlie, Mama, and their famiy, also on Klong Nin. Thank you so much for any help...

Ko Lanta Koh Lanta-Update
Posted: Wed December 29, 2004 09:39 PM UTC
Have been trying to find out info about Koh Lanta but have been getting so many conflicting reports.
But have just received the following email which i thought i would post for others, maybe of some help.

Dear Clive,

Ko Lanta can come and safe enough but Kaw Kwang beach is quite big damaged and take quite long time to renovate. I don’t sure he will open again on this season or not. If yes, there are really hard works to do. Email back to me for next two weeks which I can find out for you the final solution of Kaw Kwang Beach that he will open again or not.

Anyway, damage is such a thing. All of the guests and people working there were safe is such a lucky thing.

Tony Wanitkit

So it seems that Koh Lanta has not been so badly affected as some.
Also seems like they still want us all to keep visiting there lovely land. Herd that so many people want to help out. I think that if we still visit, would be the best way of helping them as, the thais rely on tourism a great deal and if we stay away (boycot), then they will not be getting urgently needed funds. Thats my view anyway.
Our hearts are with all those affected.

Ko Lanta Ko Lanta Situation
Posted: Wed December 29, 2004 02:30 PM UTC
I am trying to find more information about the situation on Relax Bay and more specific the company called Omnitrips. They are located on the beach in Lanta and I have been trying to find Bjorn, who owns this operation. Cellphones are either not working or lost but problem is finding good information about Lanta.

I would really appreciate if somebody could give me some news about the situation on Lanta and I would be even more happy with news on Bjorn Moller from Omnitrips.

Thanks very very much

All my thoughts and prayers go out to everybody in the affected countries. May you have all the strength you need.

Best regards

Ko Lanta David and Jo Doyle
Posted: Wed December 29, 2004 09:30 AM UTC
Hi in O Malleys Bar in Krabi this year I met an English couplecalled David and Jo Doyle. They told me that they ran a restaurant on Ko Lanta but I dont remember the name and I lost their email address?
Does anybody know of this couple and how they are?
I spent time on Railay Beach which I believe has not been too badly damaged but that ten of the boat men died and other people missing who were on boats at the time.
Thanks, Tom.

Ko Lanta Condition or status of Woodland Lodge, Koh Jum Island
Posted: Tue December 28, 2004 06:58 PM UTC
Can anyone please tell me the status of Woodland Lodge, on Koh Jum Island. We stayed there a year ago and became very attached to the place and the people. A map of Koh Jum adorns my office. Now I am wondering what it looks like. I am assuming Jum Village escaped major destruction, based on its location but if that is wrong, please tell me.

Hiya,
Annette and I are looking at going to Ko Lantra and would need to know if it is best to take travellers cheques or sterling, or is there possibly an atm on the island so we don't need to carry cash?
Does anyone have the web or email adress of any contacts on the Island for beach hut/ bungalow type accomodation, We stayed on Ko Samui about 16 yrs ago, before they put an airport there, and are looking for something similar to what was on Ko Samui then
Hope someone can help.

Ko Lanta the original lanta long beach
Posted: Sat December 18, 2004 10:44 PM UTC
2 years ago I stayed at this great place on koh lanta- the lanta long beach. It had tree houses ,was cheap, and the staff was great. At the time another place had opened next to it also called lanta long beach. Now the only listings I can find are for the new lanta long beach resort. This is the new one and not the original.Does anyone know if the original is still there? It was owned by Canadians and had 3 tree houses available. If you know the web site,I would love to have it.
Thanks,I would really like to stay there again!
