Travelling to Phuket, Koh Lanta and Phi Phi Islands in mid September to early October 2009 Posted: Thu August 27, 2009 01:43 PM UTC
Hi all,
I had a few questions about travelling to Phuket, Koh Lanta and Phi Phi Islands in September. I understand this is low season but I just wanted to know if people had any advice regarding:
1) Is the weather going to be mostly rain? I know its rainy season, but I have been to Boracay in the Philippines in September and it rained sporadically but was still very hot and sunny, so I thought that it would be similar weather. People who have been to Thailand in September told me that the weather is not as bad as what people make it out to be, so I just wanted to find out what the real deal was.
2) We are starting our trip off in Phuket, but I wanted to find out the best way to get to Koh Lanta and Phi Phi Islands during September/October months. Also, is it better to go to Koh Lanta from Phuket then Koh Lanta to Phi Phi Islands?
3) Any suggestions on accommodation? We would like something that is relatively comfortable but affordable.
If anyone can give advice, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Audrey

50th birthday Posted: Tue July 7, 2009 03:25 AM UTC
Am turning 50 next year and were planning on going to thailand with adult family and two toddlers. Last time we went to phuket and this time I wanted something a bit different.
do you think Ko Lanta will be too quiet for 7 adults who like a bit of nightlife and also is there any shopping to be had here and would it be suitable for two tots aged 1 and 3?

Transportation services Posted: Fri June 26, 2009 07:51 PM UTC
I'm looking for general advice or specific recommendations for travelling to and from Lanta. I will be arriving at Krabi airport and need to get to Lanta, how is the best way to do this, how would I arrange this? By the way I'm talking about December here.
Also, after staying on Lanta I'm heading to Koh Jum. How would I arrange a long tail boat to take me there?
Thanks.

1st time to Ko Lanta Posted: Mon July 28, 2008 06:57 AM UTC
the Mrs. and I are planning a trip to Ko Lanta (and probably the surrounding islands) for two weeks - 2nd and 3rd week of december.
we're looking for a safe, quiet and cheap place as the base to go dive and snorkel and wander around from. my own research tells me that Prae Ae (Long Beach) is the way to go. is this correct?
will somebody please give us some tips on where to stay (names of accommodation place); and probably even other islands that we can jump off to after a couple of days at Lanta, and probably the ones after that too.
we're quiet people who loves the sea way too much than we can afford - both in terms of time and budget- therefore indications on the amount to be spent is highly anticipated and very much appreciated.
cheers!

Ko Lanta vs Phi Phi Posted: Sat April 5, 2008 03:42 PM UTC
We have a choice of staying in either Phi Phi or Ko Lanta for the last 3 nights of our trip in May.
We have to been Phi Phi before, about 18 months ago and really loved it. We can't decide what to do with our time and are tempted to go back although we think it's a waste not to go somewhere new!
We'd want Phi Phi as there are gorgeous beaches and it's fairly peaceful during the day (don't know if it still is) but there are some good bars in the evening - how would this compare Ko Lanta?
Sorry this is a bit vague - it has occured to us to go to Ko Lanta and if we like it stay and if not get the next boat to Phi Phi! We'd prefer to keep the travelling time to a minimum.
Would appreciate anyone's thoughts.
Thanks

Itinerary for Koh Lanta / Koh Phi Phi Posted: Sun March 2, 2008 10:49 PM UTC
Hello,
I'm planning a trip to Koh Lanta and Koh Phi Phi for early July. I was originally planning on spending 1 week on Koh Lanta (Long Beach area), and 1 week on Koh Phi Phi. Does anyone recommend more or less time at each location, or any other location, besides day trips to smaller islands for snorkeling?
We will be flying into Phuket and taking a ferry to the other islands. Is it worth spending any time in Phuket?
Thank you!

Yacht in Koh Lanta Posted: Wed February 6, 2008 01:18 PM UTC
Who is in Koh Lanta now ?
I was in Koh Lanta last Saturday at Kantiang Beach, the southern part of the island. Back from a full day trip to Koh Rok I saw a beautiful huge yacht there with a helicopter. I wonder to whom this yacht belong to and where does it sail..

Tell me more about "I Bar". Posted: Sun December 30, 2007 08:33 AM UTC
I was in Lanta in 2003 and went to this bar - I think. Last time I was there it had closed down (December 2005). Want someone to confirm it is open again as I am headed back at the end of January.
If we're all talking about the same bar, it's an amazing place. Built in the jungle over 3 levels looking out over the ocean toward Ko Ha.
Apparently was owned by a European guy a while back.
So hope it's going to be open for my next visit.
Has anyone been there recently to confirm it's still happening?
Hoping so - Lyndyloo

I understand there are public minivans going from Krabi to Koh Lanta all year long. Where do you take them from? We are arriving in Krabi airport, do we have to take a minivan to downtown first?

advise for long beach Posted: Sun March 25, 2007 12:52 AM UTC
Hi all, I am planning a trip to ko lanta, possibly early december, or alternatively, mid February... any thoughts on the best time?(weather-wise)... also, has anyone stayed at Sayang Beach resort, nothern end of Long Beach?...it looks nice, but i cant seem to find a huge amount of info about it... After researching for a while, im thinking that Long beach is the best for my needs, mainly sunbaking and snorkelling, and nice food... not too busy. Also, seeing as Jetstar fly directly to Phuket, is the ferry across to Lanta the best option?. I have just returned from Phi Phi in March, and found the ferry to be a good way to travel... but to get to Lanta, am i going about it the wrong way?..Thank you in anticipation, Joey.

from krabi airport to ko lanta Posted: Fri March 9, 2007 09:47 AM UTC
4 adults traveling to ko lanta via krabi airport the 1st week of April, 2007. Our flight arrives in the afternoon at around 230pm. Need to know the best way to get to ko lanta. Are there private transports available at the airport that are fairly reasonable??? We are also concerned about catching our flight back to Bangkok on a Friday. We were thinking of going with a local travel agency for our transport back to the airport but a little concerned about delays at the ferry. We have to be at the airport no later than 11am on our flight back to Bangkok. Can anyone give us any suggestions.

ko lanta travel Posted: Sat March 3, 2007 12:09 AM UTC
help...I have a family of 4 flying in to Krabi this April 1st, 2007 for 6 days.
We wanted to experience both Krabi and Ko Lanta. We have plans on taking day trips for diving, snorkeling, especially the neighboring islands of Ko Lanta. Is it better to stay in Krabi and take boat tours instead for Ko Lanta and its neighboring smaller islands?? Or..should we stay at Ko Lanta the whole week and then take boat tours to Krabi?? Most hotels at Ko Lanta offer their own private transport but at outrageous prices..1700baht min per person one way!!
If we stay in Krabi for 2 nights and then transfer to Ko Lanta for the last 3 nights, whats the best, reasonable way to get there????I appreciate any suggestions.

reviews of Narima, Relax Bay and Baan Lanta? Posted: Mon December 4, 2006 06:35 PM UTC
We are going to Koh Lanta in January and would like a nice bungalow on the beach, not too expensive, but mid-range (50-100$) and also with some local character. We are presently looking at 3 places: Narima, Relax Bay and Baan Lanta. I read some mixed reviews about Narima, including one that says it is not well-kept (debris in the pool, musty sheets). Any more views on Narima? Has anyone been to Relax Bay? I haven't seen any reviews on that one. I did read some good reviews from Baan Lanta. Any other suggestions?

Resort Recommendations Posted: Sun October 1, 2006 12:10 PM UTC
Hi! I am planning a trip for a group of four couples, one of whom has a 6-month old infant. We are thinking of spending a week in either Krabi or Koh Lanta, and I was hoping someone could suggest a few resorts that might fit our budget and our desires. We'd like to stay at a place that is quiet, not right in the middle of all the bars and nightlife, but reasonably close to a good selection of restaurants, etc. We'd like a family-friendly resort that is on the beach, preferably with a pool, and where we can get an air-conditioned room or bungalow for under 2000 baht a night. Any suggestions? Also, any suggestions as to whether Krabi or Koh Lanta in general is better for a quiet, restful family-type vacation? Thanks so much. :)

Traveling to Ko Lanta with an Infant. Worth it?? Posted: Sat September 30, 2006 01:18 PM UTC
Hi! My husband and I are considering booking a vacation at a resort in Koh Lanta, and bringing along a 7-month old. We've experienced some hassle getting to and from islands in Thailand and the Philippines in the past, and can't imagine doing it with a baby. One website recommends flying into Krabi airport, and hiring a private minibus or speedboat to take us to the island. Has anyone done this or anything similar? In the past we've had to wade through water waist-deep, carrying our luggage over our heads, in order to board a boat to Boracay in the Philippines. We wished we'd known how much hassle it would be. Can anyone describe what it is like and how long it takes to get to Ko Lanta? Thanks so much.

Lanta in September / Accomodation Posted: Mon August 7, 2006 06:02 AM UTC
Hi all,
Going to Ko Lanta in september, dont know if its a good time, low season, i just hope weather dosent get too wet, so that i can catch some sun...
Still deciding if i should stay @Pra-Ae beach or Klong Dao beach...anyone can help?
As i'm travelling alone, i just need an accomodation as near to the beach as possible, and i'm looking for a beach good for swimming. Is Pra-Ae or Klong Dao beach better for swimming? Or it dosent makes a difference at this time of the year?
Any advice would be deeply appreciated.
Thank you

Choice to stay on Lanta! Posted: Sat July 22, 2006 07:50 AM UTC
Is Klong Dao beach, far to walk to Long beach (Pha Ae Beach)?
I am hesitating between the 2 places to stay a few days. Very important is also to have some nice bars (regular) to have a romantic drink in the evening. I like a cosy, neither too luxurous, but neither too basic with bungalows on the beachfront at a fair price!
I stumbeled in these;
Lanta Bee Garden Bungalow
Relax Bay Resort
Good days Lanta Chalet & Resort
Lanta Longbeach Bungalows
Somebody stayed at these places? Somebody know where bliss bar is?
Thank you!!!

Alcohol Posted: Thu July 13, 2006 04:08 PM UTC
I saw on a tip that restaurants don't serve alcohol on Ko Lanta, only bars, and those open later in the day (or evening?). Is this true for all restaurants, and can you buy beer at a supermarket?
Thanks a lot.
