Krabi Soggy Railay versus Sunny Tioman or Redang Island or Chiang Mai?
Posted: Fri May 16, 2008 12:22 AM UTC
Hi there,
I'm currently trying to work out what would make a nicer vacation during mid August:
1. Railay, or Ao Nang; or
2. Tioman Island or Redang Island.

So far I've been told that Railay/Ao Nang are more spectacular to look at, and have less sea urchins to sting me, however, the weather there is not ideal (e.g. rainy!) during that time of the year.

Is the rain so bad during August as to make it a bad place to go this time of year? Are there things to do there whilst it rains?

Would I be better off in Tioman or Redang? Are the sea urchins a real problem?

Is Chiang Mai nice in August? Are there things to do even when it rains?

Thanks so much,

P

Krabi Krabi Visit
Posted: Mon April 28, 2008 10:03 AM UTC
Hi, i am currently planning for a trip to Krabi. I planned to book for a hotel called Royal Nakara Ao Nang as they are giving a very special promotion @ stay 3 nights paying for 2. However, I could not get more information about the hotel. I would prefer a hotel with beach. Has any one been there can let me know how is the hotel and its surrounding and perhaps a suggestion for hotel with beach within Ao Nang.

Next, I m quite curious that the hotel does not provide transfer from airport. They are charging me for 700 BHT per van for 10 person. Is that reasonable?

Krabi Bringing a pet dog to Krabi
Posted: Wed April 9, 2008 11:31 AM UTC
I can't seems to find a way of bringing my pet dog to Krabi. Malaysia Airlines only fly to Phuket and Airasia doesn't allow pets on board.
Trains and buses are all not possible too.
I'm thinking of flying with MAS to Phuket first and then travel to Krabi by taxi etc.
I'm just wondering how long will it take to travel by taxi from Phuket to Krabi and how much will it cost me.
Please can somebody give me some tips?
I'm planning to stay in Krabi for 3 weeks with my dog.

Krabi Need advice where to stay ...Phuket....Krabi....PhiPhi?
Posted: Fri February 22, 2008 07:42 AM UTC
Hi i need your help me and my friends will go to ChiangMai from March 15-17 then leave Chiangmai on the 17th to go to Phuket airport. We want to know where is the best place to stay for a 3N/4D (March 17-20). We are confused if we will stay in one of the beaches in Phuket or in Krabi or in PhiPhi Island. What we want is a not so expensive hotel (about 3star) but a decent one and is near the beach that is not so crowded and the water is clear and the sand is powdery white and it has wide shoreline. I'm suggesting that we stay in Loh Dalum Bay area because i've read in some websites that it has good hotels and it has good view. One website describes Loh Dalum Bay as breathtakingly beautiful - almost totally enclosed, it has very shallow water that get gets warmed by the sun to almost the temperature of a warm bath! However, my other friend wants to stay in Krabi bec. she's thinking that staying in Loh Dalum maybe too quiet. My other friend wants to stay somewhere in Phang-Nga Bay. My other friend wants to stay in Patong Beach bec. she thinks it has a nice beach. Since we can't decide where to stay I need your advice.

We don't intend to just stay on the beach. Definitely we will go to James Bond Island, Maya Bay, Phi Phi Lei. We want to snorkel and at the same time go kayaking or canoeing. If we stay in PhiPhi Island like in Loh dalum are there tours there we can get easily if we want to go island hopping and stop for some snorkelling? Or it is better to stay in one of the Krabi beaches because it has nicer beach and we can already snorkel there anytime without getting a snorkel tour?

Do you suggest that we just stay in Krabi and just take an island tour to see the PhiPhi Island and nearby surroundings to snorkel and kayak or the other way around...we stay in PhiPhi Island and take a tour going to Krabi beaches to snorkel and kayak/canoe?

Sorry if i have so many questions. I would really appreciate any feedback that can help us decide where to stay so we can maximize our vacation.

Krabi Krabi weather end April-May
Posted: Fri February 15, 2008 09:40 AM UTC
Hi Everyone

I'm planning to go Krabi on 30th April - 4th May. I read that May is the time where it just pours and pours. The last time I was in Phuket in August (didn't check back then), it rained continuously!

I wish to avoid that mistake but can't find another time to visit Krabi except for the dates above. Has anyone experienced heavy rain during this period of time? I know May is probably the start of the rainy season but I'm wondering if it would just start pouring on 1st May onwards! Hahaha, sounds crazy but who knows right?

Some feedback is much appreciated!

Krabi Krabi Travel Advice Please
Posted: Wed February 6, 2008 12:08 AM UTC
Hi. My partner and I (mid 20’s) are hoping to holiday in Thailand in April. We would like to stay in the country for 2 weeks and are hoping to spend a couple of days in Bangkok and then head south to Krabi for 7-8 days and perhaps spend a few nights somewhere else like Koh Lanta or Koh Lipe.
We do not want to become bored. We enjoy nature and adventure but also like to spend some time in lay back bars at night. My questions are as follows, and any advice would be greatly appreciated:
• Should we stay in Krabi for up to 10 nights and use it as a base for visiting other areas, or spend a week there and then a few nights somewhere else?
• Is Ao Nang beach busy and/or noisy with tourists in April, and if we were to stay at Railey Beach is Ao Nang nightlife accessible from here?
• Any recommendations for accommodation at approx. 2000-3000BHT per night?
Thank you for your help!

Krabi Flying from Singapore to Krabi
Posted: Mon February 4, 2008 07:56 AM UTC
Forgot to ask this question too - on the Tiger Airways website they list Krabi as a destination from Singapore but they don't seem to have any flight schedule listed. Does Tiger still fly to Krabi?

If not do any other budget airlines fly this route?

Krabi best travel method from Phuket to Krabi
Posted: Mon February 4, 2008 07:52 AM UTC
we can't decide which would be the best method of travelling to Ao Nang Beach - from Phuket.
Are the ferries OK? & how much & how long, we are travelling beginning of August so perhaps the sea will be rough?
Other options are - hire a car - we have driven in Thailand before so OK with the roads - but how much will they be & do they do remote drop offs as they do in UK/Europe etc?
or just get a mini bus - from the forums I have read about 2000Bt seems to be the rate.
Would appreciate any feedback - also any feedback about Ao Nang Beach Resort would be helpful.

Thanks in advance

Krabi krabi Vs Phi Phi
Posted: Thu January 24, 2008 03:20 AM UTC
We're heading to Krabi for only about a week in April and want to know if it is worthwhile taking time out of our short stay in krabi to head to phi phi for a night or two. Is just a day trip there feasible/worthwhile?

We want to experience the people and lifestyle of southern thailand and want to know whether krabi or phi phi will offer us that... i guess we want to know is phi phi just a place to hang out with other tourists and see tourist-generated 'activities' eg thai boxing etc or are they real events among real villagers.

Krabi Where to go?
Posted: Mon December 10, 2007 11:55 AM UTC
I'm planning the second leg of my honeymoon in Krabi and possibly ko lanta. Seen as you all helped me so much with the Malaysian part, I wondered if anyone could tell me of a nice bungalow resort that is mid range but in a really beautiful setting. We want to get a romantic retreat without breaking the bank.

I've never been to that side of the island before, always the other side, Koh samui and Koh pha gnan. Any recommendations would be great.

I'm leaving on Wednesday so any help, much appreciated.

Krabi Krabi weather: end september or july?
Posted: Mon November 12, 2007 08:44 PM UTC
Hello guys!

I'm getting married next year. I don't know yet if will be in September or July. I'm already planning the Honeymoon and I wanted to include Krabi in my trip. We already have been in Krabi, we felt inlove of Railay and all the Andaman Coast. Unfortunately we didnt have a good weather (I was there in May) and we didnt have the opportunity to enjoy 100% the Andaman Coast. Krabi have an special meaning for my boyfriend and me so will be great if we go there during our Honeymoon. My main concern is the weather. I don't want to go if is raining. Could anybody tell me if September or July are good months to go? Wihch is better between this two months?

I will really appreciate all your comments!

Thanks

Krabi Help needed on where to stay
Posted: Tue October 30, 2007 01:40 PM UTC
Hi VTers,

I am beginning the planning of an epic trip starting in Thailand in January.

14/1/08 Singapore
16/1/08 Krabi,PhiPhi
19/1/08 Koh Phangan
23/1/01 ko Samui
24/01/08 bangkok
Yeah I know... packing in a few destinations in a short period of time and we may have to drop something out.

I will arrive in Krabi with a friend on Jan 16 at 10 pm. We thought we would stay on PhiPhi but I now realise that we will have to go the next day.

I would appreciate advice on where to stay for that first night and options on getting to PhiPhi, probably the next day.

Next question is:
Our next plan is to get to Koh Phangan for the full moon party on Jan 22. How should we get there and were would be a good place to stay. I would also appreciate feedback from anyone who has been to a full moon party.

This is our first time to Thailand.

Thanking you in advance. I would appreciate all advice.

Krabi Getting to Phuket from Krabi
Posted: Sat October 27, 2007 05:22 PM UTC
We need to get from Krabi to Phuket and would love suggestions on the fastest (and safest) way to get there. We've heard there are flights, but can't find anything online that we can book. Should we rent a car? Hire a private boat? (Are there even such options?) Our hotel is on the northwest part of Phuket Island about 20 mins. south of the airport. Thanks for your help!!

Krabi plane ticket to Krabi and need hotel recommendation
Posted: Tue October 16, 2007 09:01 PM UTC
Hi,
I need to book a flight from Bangkok to Krabi.
AirAsia has it for for about $185 round trip. Any website I can use to get a better price?

Also, need recommendations for a Hotel in Krabi.
Looking for one within walking distance to the beach and not too expensive (approx $100-$150 per night).
Will be staying Dec 30 - Jan 2.
Looking for a hotel that would not require you to buy their New Year's Eve dinner.

I'm so confused about the different beaches - Ao Nang,Krabi etc. Are all the beaches close to each other? Anyone have a good map of Krabi?

Any opinions on the following hotels?...

http://www.agoda.com/asia/thailand/krabi/thepparat_lodge_krabi.html

http://www.agoda.com/asia/thailand/krabi/buri_tara_resort.html

Krabi 7 Nights in Krabi - What should we do - Where should we go????
Posted: Sun October 14, 2007 07:36 AM UTC
Hi Fellow VTers

I've read the reviews, got my lonely planet but I want to cover all the bases. We're staying at the Sheraton for 7 nights. I know this is a bit out of town (Ao Nang) but that's ok with us. So my questions are;
What else should I know about the Sheraton?
What should we do for 7 nights in Krabi?
Where should we visit?
What other advice do you think would be handy?

I appreciate any advice or thoughts and I look forward to reading them.

Krabi Krabi 17oct - 22oct
Posted: Thu September 27, 2007 03:24 AM UTC
Hello!

I am planning my trip to Krabi from 17thOct to 22nd Oct.
How is the weather currently? I am just afraid to experience rainy days for my entire trip..has anyone experienced the weather in Krabi during Oct?

I am planning to stay in Buri Tara Resort near to Ao Nang.. Any comment on this resort?
Also, i am planning to rent a jeep to drive around... maybe to krabi town.. is it safe and easy for someone who hasn't been to krabi before?
How much would the rental cost?

I have been to Phi Phi Island before when i was in Phuket..and tried elephant riding..
IS there any islands/ things i have to see and do for my 6 days there?
Thanks to advise how i can reach these places as well...and pricing too!

Lastly, for the transfer from airport, is it easy to get a taxi in airport? and what is the rate i would expect to pay?
Buri Tara quote me 300bhat per person per trip for the transfer.. i do not know if that is reasonable..

Thanks for your advices.

Cheers to all holiday lovers!
