Finding a Good Tailor in Phuket - any recommendations Posted: Thu July 2, 2009 12:50 AM UTC
I am flying to Phuket next Friday and would like to take a suit with me and have it copied. There are so many tailors it is hard to pick one and I have read so many reviews of bad ones it is scary.
Has anyone been and had any suits and shirts made recently? I have read good reviews about InStyle and Hillfiger Fashion. What is the average cost for a suit?
Cheers

Hi all. I am arriving Monday night, should be in Patong by around 9.00 pm.
Can anyone tell me what time the foreign exchange booths close in Patong, and if anyone is there now, what sort of rate are they given for Aussie Dollars ?
Cheers and I'll see you at the U2 Bar sometime.

Phuket Accommodation Posted: Thu June 25, 2009 11:21 PM UTC
Hi All,
Firstly, thanks to those who responsed to a previous post.
My partner and I have decided that we will most probably go to Phuket for 7 days in July/August. Which is the best tourist area to stay in in Phuket? We want to be walking distance to beaches, shopping, restaurants and daily activities. We're not overly in to the nightclub scene, however happy to experience some of the nightlife.
Does anyone also know anything about "Sawasdee Village" accommodation in Kata and does Kata have shopping, restaurants, daily activities etc?
I've always wanted to stay in Bungalow accommodation. Can someone recommend Bungalow accommodation walking distance to main tourist areas and are they secure?
Thanks
Lisa

Patong Beach in July Posted: Wed June 17, 2009 06:00 AM UTC
I will be staying in Patong for a few days in July. After reading other replies on this site I assume the ocean will not be calm and have surf with some dangerous undercurrents. Is it better to get a hotel with a good pool. We will be staying or two nights and then going sailing around Phang Nga Bay.
We were thinking of staying for three nights at Phi Phi at the Island Village Beach Resort. Will the ocean be calm enough to swim in? Can't decided if better to rent a beach villa or hillside one with a pool. Help.

Phuket Posted: Sat June 6, 2009 08:41 AM UTC
We are a family of 8 adults and 2 children (5yrs and 2,5yrs) travelling to Phuket 06 July 09. We will be at ClubMed Kata Beach.
We will be looking at hiring a vehicle to seat all of us for about 2 days of our 8 day stay, to get us all around together, be it shopping or just exploring.
What is the best option. Hiring 3 tuc-tucs or hiring a small bus ( 8 seater) with air-con.
Where can we hire this from, and at what approximate cost per day. Or do the hotels offer a service like this too.
Looking forward to responses.

Getting married in Phuket in November. Help need some tips!! Posted: Mon June 1, 2009 12:59 PM UTC
Hiya
My partner and i are eloping and getting married at Nai Yang beach Phuket. There is only going to be us and our one year old son and two of our friends and their one year old son. Questions...
1) We are using a company called "Thailand wedding Ltd., Part & Phang Nga Discovery Tours (Your Thailand Wedding Specialist)to organise our ceremony. After lots of research they seemed to offer the most for the price and seemed to be experienced. Have good website, photo gallery etc. Anyone heard of them or had experience with them?? Have been dealing with Noi.
2) Should i wait and get wedding dress made there?? Only want simple and light (will be hot lol!!).
3) Any tips for travelling with a 13 month old to Thailand.... (am i crazy lol!!) Cant be immunised against typhoid as too young, but will be fully immunised otherwise.
Any other advice you feel might be helpful would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Lulu :)

Hi,
Coming to Phuket in Nov.-confused where to stay-want somewhere that I can walk to town to shop and eat but not in the middle of a party- probably Karon or???? I can spend around $100.00 US per night- nice pool with ample chairs is a must-
Also are hotels higher at this time of the year or does that start in Dec.??
Thanks in advance-Darla

Advice needed! Posted: Thu May 28, 2009 07:32 PM UTC
Hi all,
My and my other half just found really cheap flights to Phuket on the 8th June and are now looking for some where to stay.
Ive heard mixed reviews of the weather this time of year, is it better on the west or the east side of the island? Do you know if it will be possible to sunbathe or is the monsoon season not the right time to be doing that!
Can anyone recommend some where to stay as again im getting mixed reviews of places. We have about £200 to spend for a hotel for 9 nights. I would really like some where right on the beach, a little hut or something but anything will do!
Thanks so much in advance!!
Kate

First time in Phuket - need help Posted: Tue May 19, 2009 08:31 AM UTC
Hi,
I and my family (8 passengers - 6 people over age group of 55 and myself and the 3 month pregnant wife (aged 27 and 26 respectively) are travelling to Phuket from India.
We would be arriving in 1st week of June and would be in Phuket for 4 days.We would be residing near the Patong area. Needed help with the following tentative itinerary
Day 1 - reach Phuket at around 3.00 PM. (day free - suggestions welcome)
Day 2 - Tour of Phi Phi and other islands
(what can be the expected costs ? With a pregnant wife, is it advisable to go via speed boat ? What tour can be recommended ? For 8 people, what kind of bargaining would be possible ?, any reliable tour operator suggestions ? any extra costs ? snorkelling gear, entry fees if any included ?
Day 3 - planning on Phang Nga islands trip (again the above questions, mode of transport ?, costs ?, anybody recommended?)
Day 4- 1/2 day Island trip (costs etc)
Other things i needed help with were
1- Transportation from Airport to Patong beach for 8 adults + baggages(we ere considering a driver like daj/ mai etc who can do a round trip pick up) what are the charges etc ?
2. Being pure vegetarians , what would be the food options possible for us - thai as well as indian ? any recommendations ?
3. Regarding beach activities like jet ski, parasailing etc, what would be the best place and going rate ?
4. a good massage parlour recommendation (spa may be too tight for the pocket, considering 8 ppl, but a warm, nice hygienic massage parlour recommendation is welcome)
5. Night activities we were planning was Phuket fantasea show and simon cabaret . should i buy tickets from agents or directly ? what would be the best way for 8 ppl to get there ?
6. Lastly, i was considering the hongs by starlight trip (john gray) instead of phang nga discovery. however, the costing is really pinching at approx 3500 baht (8 people). views requested on whether i should still go for it

Piracy and Police raids..!!?? Posted: Thu May 7, 2009 04:44 AM UTC
I have read of market vendors rioting in Bangkok due to Police raids and confiscating their pirated goods...Sending tourists scurrying back to their hotels...Shots were fired..!!...Does anybody know if police raids on piracy are happening in Phuket...??...Supposedly the Thai government is being heavied by US and NZ governments for not doing enough about the piracy problem...
And I read that it is now an offence to bring pirate copies of anything back into New Zealand.Fines and convictions enforced @ customs..!!??...Is this true..??...
