| Ko Samet | Ko Samet or Ko Chang?? Posted: Thu November 17, 2005 08:59 PM UTC
I am travelling to Thailand In Feb and cant decide whether to go to ko Chang or Ko Samet. I will be arriving from Cambodia (Poipet) and have to travel from there to one of the islands- has any one done this? Is it easy enough to reach? I really wanted to do both isalnds but will only have 5/7 days before I have to leave to Bangkok. Has anyone been to both islands and can tell me which is the nicest and cheapest?
Thanks |

| Ko Samet | Where to stay?? Posted: Wed October 5, 2005 11:44 AM UTC
Hi
I am going to Ko Samet with my parents in November. Do anyone have any recommodations on where to stay? The hotel should preferable be clean, have a private bathroom and aircon and close to a nice beach! In addition not too much noise from clubs and bars etc is an advantage. Prices for a doubleroom up to 1500-2000 should be ok. Thanks :) |

| Ko Samet | I've never been to Koh Samet! Posted: Wed September 7, 2005 12:17 PM UTC
I love Thailand, have spent a long time on Koh Phangan and travelled up to the north. I'm going to Thailand in February, on my own. I was thinking of Koh Samet. Is it a good place for chilling, and the weather in February...? Also, is two weeks too long to spend there? Is it the kind of place you can go on your own and meet people? Help! I really want a relaxing beachy time, but am quite scared as this is my first time travelling alone.

| Ko Samet | Where to stay in Ko Samet, MOSQUITO CONCERN Posted: Thu August 25, 2005 01:30 PM UTC
Hello,
I am planning to go to Ko samet for a short two nights around Sept 19. Considering i'll probably arrive in ko samet in mid to late afternoon coming from Bangkok, stay a full day and leave the next day around late morning, (and then travel another 4-5 hours back to bangkok), do you think this is too little time? also, where do i stay? ive done a lot of reading on this and reviews seem to be very mixed. the west coast sounds lovely but expensive, and the dirt road seems like a huge pain. the east coast sounds too developed and its hard to tell which is the nicest, not too touristy beach on the east. i prefer somewhere that is not in the thick of it all, but accessible if i feel like going out for a drink. i'd like to spend 500-900 on the room. most importantly i want a CLEAN room-- no mice, ants, and most importantly, MOSQUITOES. i get bad reactions to mosquito bites. i'm wondering what the mosquito situation is at any of the places you can recommend, and if i should go with fan or a/c. p.s. where do you get those mosquito coils i read about? do they really work? |

| Ko Samet | Travel to Ko Samet Posted: Wed June 1, 2005 10:02 PM UTC
I would like to go to Ko Samet for 3 or 4 days in July. My concern is that my flight does not arrive in Bangkok until 1:30pm so with the 4 hour bus ride, I will miss the last boat to the island. Are there private boats available after 5:00? Will I have to spend the night on the mainland?
Any advice on this would be great! Thanks in advance! |

| Ko Samet | Koh Samet worth a holiday? Posted: Thu February 24, 2005 03:53 AM UTC
We are going to Thailand in May and are spending 4 nights in bangkok followed by a beach holiday. Were originally planning on going to Koh Lanta but being on the andaman coast were concerned about the weather and sea visibility for snorkelling etc at that time of year, anyhows we are now considering Koh Samet staying at the Le Virman on Ao Phroa (I think) I believe Ko Samet's nightlife is on the other side, is it easy to get there and back, even later on when the bars are closing etc? also we are planning on going for nine nights, will there be enough to do on Koh Samet? or are there trips and stuff you can go on? Any advice is really appreciated

| Ko Samet | How to reach Ko Samet from Pattaya Posted: Fri December 3, 2004 03:56 AM UTC
Hi Deal All
I am planning to go to Ko Samet with my girl friend on 6 Dec 04. As this is my first trip there so I need your help and provide me the folloiwng info: 1. How to reach Ko Samet from Pattaya. According to my search, it seems that we have to reach Baan Phe and from there to catch a boat to the beach. What is the best and safetest mode of transport ? 2. Can I go by speed boat ? If so, do they provide life jacket, as my girl friend may not want to go if there is none.? How long it will take if go by soeed boat? 3. Is Saikaew Beach Resort or Saikaew Villa a good choice? According to there website www.saikaew.com/speedboat they have speed boat to the villa? Thanks Alan |

| Ko Samet | Koh Samet or Koh Samui! Posted: Sat October 30, 2004 10:33 AM UTC
Hi everyone,
I am coming to Thailand with my girlfriend for the 3rd time in January and want to spend a week in a nice beach resort. I have been to Koh Samui once before, I was actually there when 911 happened :-( It was obvisouly the end of the rinay season so was very quiet being Sept. I am looking at going back there again, but as it is high season I am wondering how different it is going to be. I hear things about it being very touristy, but I did not feel that when I went, maybe because of the time of the year? Most bars were empty etc. I am a very young 30 yr old and my girlfriend is only 27, and we both absolutely love going out dancing and partying, so I would like to know if Koh Samet offers a good combination of relaxation in the day and nice bars/clubs in the evening? One thing I LOVED about Koh Samui was eating on the beach at a restaurant with my feet buried in the sand, candles being the only light etc. does this sort of thing happen on Koh Samet as well and if so is the East side the best for this? I know I want the best of both worlds, quiet and a nightlife - I know this is possible somwhere, is Koh Samet right for it? THANKS! :-) |

| Ko Samet | Ko Samet in June Posted: Sun May 23, 2004 06:19 PM UTC
Hi
Am heading for a SHORT holiday in Bangkok next weekend - 4 days (yes, even free spirits get fettered sometimes) - but hope to see a beautiful beach and clear waters on this short trip. Figured Samet is probably the best bet, but after reading the postings on the Forum, the views seem pretty diverse. Any comments? Also, would appreciate names of places to stay that are less than 1000 Baht. Thanks! |

| Ko Samet | Where can I stay?? Posted: Mon September 8, 2003 06:19 PM UTC
I'll be heading for Koh Samet in about 11 days time to spend a blissful 4 or 5 days chilling out and enjoying the beaches, food and bars.
What I'd like to know, is where are the nicest places on the island to stay, which still have enough bars to keep us entertained in the evenings. We're on a tight budget as we're travelling the world, but would like a bungalow with air con and hot water. Is it better to find somewhere when we arrive in Koh Samet?? Any advice would be appreciated. Cheers Grant |

Hi
Will be in Ko Samet in about a week and wandering about the weather and if the there is any diving to be done? Are there still dive boats going out? Anyone suggest a good dive shop and sites to visit? Is it worth trying or is the visibility so bad as to not bother? Thanks. J |

Myself and 2 friends were in ko samet last week from sat - sat and met the coolest people, in particular Lor, Dow, MC Dave (Geng), Tay, San, the list is endless! Anyway, theyre all living on or near Ao Hin Kok beach (its really lovely btw- well worth a visit) well, now were back in england and im seriously regretting not getting e mail addresses for any of them... if anyone is heading towards there they will all be in the Naga bar or Silversand restaurant most nights... if you think you could help me get in touch with them it would be greatly appreciated, realise its a long shot though. thanks, Amber x

Hi, Im wondering the exact same thing as many other it seems, whether there is malaria on Ko Samet? Im travelling to thailand for a month very soon and would love to go there. My medical centre advised me that malaria tablets are only needed for the north or Ko Chang but the Lonely planet mentions that there is a little malaria still there. Advice greatly welcomed!
