Spent a lovely day in San Gimignano and can just scream that I didn't buy the parfum I smelled in a tiny shop on the right hand side as you are walking up the hill. Does anyone know the name of the shop? I've tried looking at the town web site but have come up empty. Thank you!!

San Gimignano Staying in San Gimignano
Posted: Sun June 21, 2009 12:24 PM UTC
We are three couples that are thinking of renting a villa in San Gimignano for 2 weeks starting on September 5th. I have several questions that I hope you can help me with. First, how crowded is it at that time of year? Is it a good location to see the surrounding area? We have a car, any recomendations for things to see and do during our stay? We also enjoy wine and cooking, are there any wineries or wine bars that you would recomend or culinary activities? Thank you in advance for all your help. rbp

San Gimignano Waffle cotton towels
Posted: Thu November 6, 2008 02:03 AM UTC
When in San Gm a couple of years ago I bought some beautiful waffle cotton towels. Since I have been unable to find any in NZ I wonder if anyone can help with the name and address or website of a shop there which sells this kind of linen. Some of the towels had monogrammes and none of the several I brought back has a manufacturer label on them. These were Italian made and great quality. I would appreciate some help.

Hi! I was just wondering if anyone has taken the train from San Gimignano to Florence. Where is the train station located in San Gimignano? I've been there before, but I don't remember ever seeing it. Also, do I have to change trains anywhere? Thank you for your help!

San Gimignano Accomodation in San Gimignano
Posted: Fri May 16, 2008 12:29 PM UTC
Can anyone suggest a reasonable place to stay in San Gimignano. I was hoping to stay at the Monastery di San Girolamo...but a phone call was not of much help. The lady who answered only spoke Italian...but with my school girl french and a little English from the nun? I got to understand that the place is for males only. So any other suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

Posted: Thu October 25, 2007 07:44 PM UTC
I was told of a wonderful resturant called ( Chimeri ) I think that is the name. there is a narrow gateway...a museum nearby and it's to the left up about a half dozen stairs and it is a small resturant that holds only about a doz persons and you need to make a reservation because it is so busy and good,
Can anyone tell me the correct name if I have it wrong and /or the phone # and address
Thank you

San Gimignano Silver shop
Posted: Tue September 4, 2007 04:20 PM UTC
I was just recently in San Gimignano & purchased a beautfil hammered sterling silver bracelet from a small shop, but I can't remember the name of it & the transaction name on my credit card statement only says VIOLETTI GIOIELLI. Does anyone know about this shop - all the silver is hand-made & it appeared to be run by a husband & wife team.

Thanks so much!

Hello

We'll be in San Gim. for a 3 hour visit. We're wondering if it's safe to park the car unattended with our 2 big pieces of luggage inside.

Are you aware of any theft problems in San Gim.? Is there a safe place to park ?

San Gimignano Il Casolare di libbiano (farmhouse near SG) - Ques. about pymt?
Posted: Tue May 8, 2007 08:03 PM UTC
We are booking several nights at the above farmhouse near SG, which came highly recommended on here! In order to finalize they have asked us to send the first nights payment by a bank transfer. No CC option. Is that pretty common for small places like this - or common for Italy generally?

San Gimignano Closest place to rent a car in San Gimignano
Posted: Mon April 2, 2007 12:00 AM UTC
Hello,
My wife and I will be traveling from Rome to San Gimignano. We are wanting to take public transportation for most of the time we are in Italy; however, we would like to have a rental car for a few days while we are staying near San Gimignano. I am looking for the closest place to San Gimignano that I can 1) take a train or bus to from Rome and 2) which would offer a rental car pick-up once I got there.

I know that a bus runs from Rome to Poggibonsi, but I cannot find a car rental there.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated,
Hunter

San Gimignano San Gimignano to Rome
Posted: Mon March 5, 2007 06:16 PM UTC
Has anyone traveled from San Gimignano to Rome and have a preference between bus and train? We can bus to Poggibonsi, then to Florence, and take the train from there (seems like it could be a 3 hour trip if done right), or bus from Poggibonsi to Rome. I'm leaning towards taking the bus to Florence and the rail down to Rome since it seems it runs more frequently and may be more reliable?
Thanks!

San Gimignano South Gate
Posted: Tue February 27, 2007 10:24 PM UTC
Hello! We've booked a night at Belsoggiorno (Via San Giovanni 91), which I'm told is close to the south gate entrance. I've been unable to find a map that has the south entrance listed. The hotel is north of a roundabout where the east street is named Viale Roma. I'm trying to figure out where the bus drops off! (And which street is the actual entrance) Please help!

San Gimignano farmhouse with wonderful food
Posted: Tue October 31, 2006 10:26 PM UTC
Hello,

I plan to stay in a farmhouse in San Gimignano in mid Novermber. Can anyone recommend a farmhouse not far from the city, that has an active agricultural life? I want to see wine be made, watch olive vines grow, perhaps take cooking lessons...

Thanks,
Beth.

San Gimignano Large Roosters?
Posted: Sat July 29, 2006 01:09 AM UTC
While in San Gimignano last April my wife and I saw 2 large ceramic or porcelian Roosters in one of the shops. We were rushed with our tour group and we were not able to inquire about them at that time. Could you possibly direct us to the shops that carry them. The roosters were very colorful and stand about 2/3 meters high.

Thank you,
Gary Kessler
