| San Gimignano | Accomodation in San Gimignano Posted: Fri May 16, 2008 11:29 AM UTC
Can anyone suggest a reasonable place to stay in San Gimignano. I was hoping to stay at the Monastery di San Girolamo...but a phone call was not of much help. The lady who answered only spoke Italian...but with my school girl french and a little English from the nun? I got to understand that the place is for males only. So any other suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

I was told of a wonderful resturant called ( Chimeri ) I think that is the name. there is a narrow gateway...a museum nearby and it's to the left up about a half dozen stairs and it is a small resturant that holds only about a doz persons and you need to make a reservation because it is so busy and good,
Can anyone tell me the correct name if I have it wrong and /or the phone # and address Thank you Pat |

| San Gimignano | Silver shop Posted: Tue September 4, 2007 03:20 PM UTC
I was just recently in San Gimignano & purchased a beautfil hammered sterling silver bracelet from a small shop, but I can't remember the name of it & the transaction name on my credit card statement only says VIOLETTI GIOIELLI. Does anyone know about this shop - all the silver is hand-made & it appeared to be run by a husband & wife team.
Thanks so much! |

Hello
We'll be in San Gim. for a 3 hour visit. We're wondering if it's safe to park the car unattended with our 2 big pieces of luggage inside. Are you aware of any theft problems in San Gim.? Is there a safe place to park ? |

| San Gimignano | Il Casolare di libbiano (farmhouse near SG) - Ques. about pymt? Posted: Tue May 8, 2007 07:03 PM UTC
We are booking several nights at the above farmhouse near SG, which came highly recommended on here! In order to finalize they have asked us to send the first nights payment by a bank transfer. No CC option. Is that pretty common for small places like this - or common for Italy generally?

| San Gimignano | Closest place to rent a car in San Gimignano Posted: Sun April 1, 2007 11:00 PM UTC
Hello,
My wife and I will be traveling from Rome to San Gimignano. We are wanting to take public transportation for most of the time we are in Italy; however, we would like to have a rental car for a few days while we are staying near San Gimignano. I am looking for the closest place to San Gimignano that I can 1) take a train or bus to from Rome and 2) which would offer a rental car pick-up once I got there. I know that a bus runs from Rome to Poggibonsi, but I cannot find a car rental there. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, Hunter |

| San Gimignano | San Gimignano to Rome Posted: Mon March 5, 2007 05:16 PM UTC
Has anyone traveled from San Gimignano to Rome and have a preference between bus and train? We can bus to Poggibonsi, then to Florence, and take the train from there (seems like it could be a 3 hour trip if done right), or bus from Poggibonsi to Rome. I'm leaning towards taking the bus to Florence and the rail down to Rome since it seems it runs more frequently and may be more reliable?
Thanks! Jessica |

| San Gimignano | South Gate Posted: Tue February 27, 2007 09:24 PM UTC
Hello! We've booked a night at Belsoggiorno (Via San Giovanni 91), which I'm told is close to the south gate entrance. I've been unable to find a map that has the south entrance listed. The hotel is north of a roundabout where the east street is named Viale Roma. I'm trying to figure out where the bus drops off! (And which street is the actual entrance) Please help!

Hello,
I plan to stay in a farmhouse in San Gimignano in mid Novermber. Can anyone recommend a farmhouse not far from the city, that has an active agricultural life? I want to see wine be made, watch olive vines grow, perhaps take cooking lessons... Thanks, Beth. |

| San Gimignano | Large Roosters? Posted: Sat July 29, 2006 12:09 AM UTC
While in San Gimignano last April my wife and I saw 2 large ceramic or porcelian Roosters in one of the shops. We were rushed with our tour group and we were not able to inquire about them at that time. Could you possibly direct us to the shops that carry them. The roosters were very colorful and stand about 2/3 meters high.

| San Gimignano | San Donato - Accommodation Posted: Fri April 21, 2006 08:10 AM UTC
Hi
we are a mixed age group of people travelling to Tuscany for a long weekend at the end of June. We are looking at somewhere reasonably priced to stay and like the look of this small village (San Donato) near San Gimignano. I have seen the "Antica Dimora" accommodation which looks lovely but I have read a bad review of place and village. Has anyone either stayed here or been to San Donato? what is the place like, any services in the village for an evening wander? (shops, cafes etc...) Any info would be very grateful or other recommendations. Many Thanks Glenda |

| San Gimignano | 4 girls in Rome Posted: Sat September 17, 2005 10:52 PM UTC
We are spending a week in Rome and want to drive a car to Tuscany. My first thought was San Gimignano. We only have 2 days (one night) there. We would love to rent a villa and visit a vineyard. Should we stay in San G. or outside? Better yet a villa on a vineyard would hit the jackpot! any ideas?????

| San Gimignano | San G or Monteroginni or Montepulcino? Posted: Thu February 3, 2005 06:54 PM UTC
OK sorry for the spelling for some of the hilltowns.
Here's our plan. We're leaving Siena for Lucca by car. Along the way we thought of stopping the abovementioned towns. I'm wondering amongst the 3 which should we spend more time at? San G sounds like a tourist place which surprises me since it seemed so small and tucked away. How about the other two? they are sorta on the way as well. thanks! |
