I'd like advice on what stretch of the wall near Beijing would make a good day hike (3-6 hours) in late November. I'm conscious that the weather and crowds will be different during November than earlier in the year. I'm an experienced hiker traveling with a Mandarin speaker.

HI
I am planning to go to HK for 1 night from GZ. To reduce hassle with lugging around luggage in addition to small hotel/hostel room in HK, I would like to leave the luggages in any secured left luggage facility, preferably at Guangzhou east station. I couldn't find any information re its existence, operating hours and hourly rate. Hopefully anyone with some information could advise me here please? Perhaps if there is any other left luggage places that you know, please enlighten me!
Thanks!!

Sorry, I know this question has been asked before many times, but assuming if I am staying in 7 Days Inn, 40 Admiralty(Dajinchong) Road, Baiyun, how do I get on the train to get to Hong Kong? Is a day trip manageable? Anyone knows where I can find the train schedule from GZ-HK and HK-GZ? Never taken the train before so thought i give it a try. Thanks.

Anyone up to making new friends? We will be in Beijing Oct 13-25, and we won't know a soul. In traveling to other countries, We have met locals who like to meet foreigners and "practice their English". We are a monogamous, binational couple (Philippines, USA) and have no interest in meeting for anything but friendship. We're thinking hanging out and sight-seeing with others will add to our enjoyment of a new place.

Hi All, The title of the question says it all. We intend to make our way from Hong Kong to Guillin to Kunming over the December to January period and would appreciate finding out what sort of weather conditions we will experience and if it is a good time of the year to visit or not.
Also is it possible to get from Kunming to Laos by plane or bus.
Regards Peter

Hey everyone,
This meeting is not so much a case of "ooohhhh, there's a foreigner coming to town, let's have a meeting". Because I live in China nowadays. But I will be in Shanghai on Monday the 24th of October, and Tuesday. I'm meeting with friends in the afternoon, which leaves my evening wide open. As I hate to go to a restaurant on my own, I thought some of you VTers might like to join me.
So how about grabbing a nice dinner in town on Monday evening? I'm not quite sure where to meet yet, as there are so many great restaurants. So let's just say we'll meet at the front entrance of the Shanghai Museum at 7 in the evening?
If I have anymore information I'll let you know!
Check the meetings calendar to sign up!!!
Thanks,
Roy

I would like to visit the Oriental Pearl TV Tower and the observation desk in the World financial center, and I would like to know:
- can I buy tickets to this attractions online in advance? If not, is it possible to buy them in that places in the morning with the entrance in the evening? Because I would like to avoid the crowds in popular time during the sunset.
- if I go to the lunch in the restaurant in Oriental Pearl Tower, can i also visit for free all three observation spheres of the tower? Is it possible to book this lunch in advance?
Thank you very much

I would like to travel from Shanghai to Beijing by the bullet train on October. But since an advance online booking is impossible or hard to complete, in can by the tickets just in the train station. What is your experience, are there always free seats in the train - so can I easy buy tickets directly in the station a hour before the departure (or a day before, since I will be in Shanghai 2 days) ? Thank you very much.

Hi anyone, I'm new here and found this forum very interesting. I was wondering if anyone had some insight for me. I am travelling to Shanghai to meet my friend and asked to go to Beijing but he is unable to come with me. So I have decided to be brave and go to Beijing myself for a once in a lifetime trip. Has anyone done anything crazy like this before and if so how impossible was it? I do not speak the language and I will be travelling alone.
Ideally, I would like to travel in Beijing for about 5 days or so. Since I am travelling alone, time is a bit more flexible. I would like to visit some landmark sites - mainly the Great Wall and perhaps anything else that Beijing has to offer.
I would greatly appreciate any help/advice anyone may be able to provide.

I am going to Beijing, and since I will be there just 5 days, I dont want to spent much time for visiting many markets. So I would be happy if you can advise me the best place in Beijing for shopping. I have heard about the Silk market, but also many critics about it (bad quality, higher prices than other markets visited by locals, etc). I have also heard about Pearl market, ZOO market, etc, but I am really confused, where to go. I would like primary to buy these products:
a) electronics (ipod, dvd player, etc) - which will works (as i have read for example about fake ipods with fake capacity (100 MB instead of 8 GB)) - some chinese no-name brands, which although copies the western brands, but are not classic fakes (with fake logo of apple, for example), and really works, but for cheaper prices.
b) fake clothes, bags, watches, etc - I dont know, which market in Beijing is with good quality fakes (since there are also many bad fakes, which will get worse after few washings).
Thanks a lot for every advice.
