| Sorrento | Sorrento Holiday Posted: Mon October 22, 2007 02:02 PM UTC
My roommate and I are heading to Sorrento at the end of the month for 5 days and 4 nights during our break from school....we have plans to see Capri and the Blue Grotto and Pompeii but we're really not sure what else is worth our time and/or a good value. Like I said, we're students so anything decently priced we want to do. Does anyone have suggestions?? Thanks!

| Sorrento | Easter Processions in Sorrento Posted: Thu October 18, 2007 04:20 AM UTC
My family and I will be in Sorrento for three days before Easter next year. There is supposed to be a procession on Thursday night and also on Good Friday night. The website about the procession says that the Thursday procession is in "the middle of the night between Thursday night and Friday". Does that mean it is at midnight? We were thinking of staying at a hotel in Via Capo area. Will there be bus service after the processions? The regular bus service looks like it usually ends at 10 pm. Is it walkable to Via Capo from where the processions will take place? What are the odds of finding parking if we drove our car into Sorrento for the processions?
Sorry to load up so many questions, but the heart of this is that we want to see the processions, but we would also like to stay in Via Capo to get the lovely terrace rooms. Problem is ... transportation to and from town. |

| Sorrento | Boutique hotel/venue Posted: Thu October 11, 2007 10:58 AM UTC
I have been searching for a very unique venue in Sorrento for a wedding reception. I have found some wonderful places that fit the criteria of boutique, unique and that have the wow factor but I was hoping that there is perhaps a hidden, magical jewel that is not too large (able to accommodate 50 guests)or too sophisticated but has the views and great service, food etc. I am ideally looking along the Marina Grande and access is fairly easy as there is an elderly guest. However if someone knows of something that isn't within this area please still let me know. Those that I have so far found are Relais Blu, Bellvue Syrene, La Minervetta. Hope to hear for you.

Anyone in Sorrento forum know about seiano and vico equense-My questionsare
1-If staying in Seiano (there is a nice new hotel) is there a small town nearby as we like to be able to go to small villages for dinner etc. Also I am told there is a train stop right in town and it takes people to Sorrento? Is a train necessary or is there a bus as well?Any help is appreciated--Gene |

| Sorrento | Sorrento & Capri Posted: Mon August 20, 2007 12:56 AM UTC
I will be arriving in port off a cruise in Naples. I want to do Sorrento and Capri in one day. Is that too much? If not would it be best to go to Sorrento first then Capri or Capri then Sorrento? We plan to use the hydrofoils. Thanks!

| Sorrento | Help in planning a trip in Southern Italy Posted: Mon August 6, 2007 10:16 PM UTC
Hi!
I am trying to plan a trip to southern Italy for next April. We will be landing in Rome and flying out of Rome -- April 9 and 19. We are 4 adults and 5 children - from 5 to 17. We would like to spend a total of 2 or 3 nights in Rome and the remainder south of Rome. We can skip Naples due to the high crime rate, but want to see Pompeii, Capri, Sorrento, Positano, some of the coast, Bari (?). Is this too many places? We would also like to rent a villa in a central location -- we will have a car. We need help with an itinerary and lodging. Help!!! Thanks Anna |

| Sorrento | Sorrento to Positano by boat Posted: Mon July 30, 2007 06:57 PM UTC
I'd love to take the ferry from Sorrento to Positano for a 1/2 day walkabout on our very last day in Italy (Oct. 14th) but I've read that when the sea is choppy, the ferry can't always land so continues to Amalfi. According to the Metro del Mare schedules, Oct 14th is the last day of the low season that the ferries (MM2 and MM3) even make this run and I'm wondering if rough seas in the late season is the reason or if it's just lack of enough tourists to turn a profit? Really don't want to take the bus (cursed with a touchy stomach) as I'd likely be green (or worse) by the time we get there! Anyway, I'm just weighing our chances of making it via water vs. over land. Anyone had any experience here? Thanks a bunch!

| Sorrento | Where to stay? Posted: Fri July 27, 2007 07:54 AM UTC
Hi all! Ciao! My husband and I will be flying from Rome to Naples and then we have one day before going to Capri. We would like to see Pompeii, etc. and would prefer to stay in Sorrento. Can you recommend a mid-price place to stay that is close to the train (Circumvesuviana)? We are not interested in the beach or view.... just a nice, clean easy to reach place with maybe a decent breakfast. Already tried Starace and Astarita (Rick Steves), but they were full.
Plus, any tips on how to cram all of the highlights in one day? We will probably never return (using frequent flyer miles) and want to get the most of Italy. We have one day for Pompeii/Sorrento, 4 days in Capri (conference) and 3 days in Rome. Grazie! California mid-life mama |

| Sorrento | from Rome to Sorrento Posted: Wed July 18, 2007 01:45 AM UTC
We are planning a trip to Italy this September. we are traveling to Sorrento from Rome and trying to decide if we should drive or take a train. Do you think it is better to take a train or a car to Sorrento from Rome? I understand we will have to change trains in Naples - is it easy to do with luggage? can I buy ticket in advance online? Also, is it really true that it's a hassle to drive around Amalfi coast?
Thank You! I appreciate your feedback. |

| Sorrento | Avoiding the amalfi coast drive Posted: Tue June 19, 2007 06:15 PM UTC
We are hoping to go to the area around Sorrento. As my husband won't fly we will be travelling by train. I am looking for a base in which to stay, self catering, that will allow us to travel around the area on bus or ferry and will avoid the Amalfi drive hairpin bend roads as my husband can't stand heights! I myself want to do the coast run and I know there buses are plentiful. Can anyone recommend a good base in the area which is well served by buses or ferries. We are both pensioners but quite fit and active. We love to cook and ideally would like somewhere with foodmarkets, shops and restaurants/ bars although the loud disco life is not to our liking. Also is it possible to visit Positano by Ferry? Many thanks.

| Sorrento | arte card Posted: Sat May 19, 2007 04:48 AM UTC
Hello
I am thinking of buying the campania arte card (3days). Probably at naples airport. Will i be able to catch a bus into sorrento by using the card (from the airport)? Another option: If a buy the card at the airport can I activiate it at Sorrento before I go to Pompeii, so I can take advantage of using the train? If so, where do I do this? And do the 'local buses' include ones that go to Amalfi and Postitano? |

| Sorrento | Dress code Posted: Mon April 30, 2007 04:07 PM UTC
I am aware of the dress code for Vatican City. I was wondering if any bars, restaurants, museums in Sorrento (or the rest of Italy) have any strict dress code requirements.
I'll be in Italy the last two weeks of May 2007. I plan on wearing very, very comfortable shoes .. i.e. open toe sandals. Is this acceptable? Heck, the Vatican Dress Code doesn't mention it. Will I be allowed in Vatican City with sandals? |

| Sorrento | Best way to get from Sorrento to Pompeii and back to the ship in Naples??? Posted: Sat April 28, 2007 03:28 PM UTC
I'am traveling with my husband and another couple on a cruise. Our ship docks in Naples. We were planning on catching a ferry from the port to Capri, and then from Capri to Sorrento. From Sorrento we want to see Pompeii, and from Pompeii go back to the ship. I thought about hiring a car and driver, or maybe going on a planned excursion from the Cruise line(but I'm not fond of being in such a large group)they are both kind of expensive and we all love to be on our own. Does any one know if it would be easier to take a cab or train from Sorrento or should we just go with the safe way? Also can you hire a guide on site at Pompeii?
