On the next October, me with 3 my friends, have the oppotunity to visit Niigata, Japan for the conference. We would like to ask the cheapest transportation between train or bus from Tokyo to Niigata on or 25 September 2009.

I'm interested in going to Sado Island.

Is a one day tour sufficient to see the island?

Do you have to make a reservation for the ferry from Niigata to Ryotsu?

Is it possible to walk from Ryotsu to the opposite side of the island via the narrow part?

Any recommendations for budget accomodations?

What province is Misawa in and how do I get in touch with members there

Would like to visit Saito family in Niigata and trace family there from late 1800's to early 1900's. If you know of any families who lived near the Arakawa River back then or family related, I would like to get in contact with them.
