Sri Lanka itinery help
Posted: Sun February 25, 2007 09:47 AM UTC
Firstly thank you for taking the time to read our question. We are both early 50 who want to go to Sri Lanka in March 2008 for approx 25 days.
We plan to stay in Coumbia for 2 nights and then travel. We would like to see all the cultural sights, then visit the hill country before going to the beach and then back to columbia overnight.
We think we would prefer a base and then see what there is to see before moving to the next place. Please can anybody help us with an itinery and also reasonable small friendly accomodation. We think we would like to do most of it ourselves if possible as we have done a lot of escorted holidays which have been fabulous but very rushed, Also where should we go for our last 5 days on the beach. Thank you for helping us.

Sri Lanka Sri Lankan weather
Posted: Thu May 18, 2006 02:49 PM UTC
Hello! Some friends and I are travelling to Sri Lanka next October, and I was wondering what weather we can expect. We're visiting the more mountainous area, which I think is in the north, but can't be sure, as my geography is apalling. I've had a look on the web, but I can't seem to find a clear account of average weather in October, so would be extremely grateful for any information.
This is especially important to me as i have a nagging feeling it may be monsoon season...
Any recommendations for clothing/essentials would also be helpful, and gratefully received.
Thanks!

Sri Lanka cultrual tri-angle acommodation
Posted: Mon November 21, 2005 01:48 PM UTC
HI, we are looking at trying to book some hotels over the christmas period and have left it a bit late so we are left with ones that there does not seem to be so much information about, so was hoping someone out there might be able to advise us the choices we have. We have a choice between the Ancient Guest House, The Village and are still trying to contact the Eden Hotel - if anyone know anything about any of these, we would love to hear about them. All of them are in the Dambulla as everywhere else is full.
If you have any information on Hotels in Sigiriya other than Sigiriya Hotel or Sigiriya Village hotel, we would also like to hear about them. Thanks for your help. aj

Sri Lanka please help
Posted: Thu January 6, 2005 08:41 PM UTC
After a visit to Sri Lanka a few years ago I met a family who lived in Alutgama near bentota beach the familys name is fernando and they lived at walipanna road. does anyone know if they are safe or indeed the area survived. I would also like to know about the safety of a guide we had called Annanda. I am sorry but I can't remember his surname all I know is that he lived in Galle but travelled everyday to Alutgama and he could be contacted via the tailors shop in Alutgama.

Please if anyone knows the whereabouts of these people or the state of alutgama could you please advise me. I have postage messages on every board I can find and as yet have had only one reply from a Sri Lankan man in colombo called rupesh, who is very nice and his page is very informative but alas he is miles away from the area I need to know about.

Thanks

Sri Lanka Ahungalla/Milani
Posted: Wed January 5, 2005 10:22 AM UTC
Our family is looking for Milani De Silva (she got married a couple of years ago, so her last name might have ghanged) and her family. They live in Ahungalla (totawatta road), and own a restaurant and a villa called Rocky Point Villa right next to Triton Hotel. Milani's father is a fisherman and he delivers fisheh to the triton hotel.
We have tried to reach them, and tried to contact Triton hotel to make sure everything is okay in the area, but with no results. Could you try to help us to find out how they are?

Sri Lanka Triton Hotel, Ahungalla
Posted: Sat January 1, 2005 01:49 PM UTC
We go married at the Triton in November 2002, and have great memories of our day and all the staff that added to our overall experience greatly. In light of the terrible recent events in Asia, does anyone have any information on the status of the hotel and any casualties or damage? Any information at all would be great.

Sri Lanka Yala Safari Game Lodge
Posted: Thu December 30, 2004 02:09 PM UTC
A: Yes Jeananne. I have also read reports that say there were 17 Japanese tourists staying at the hotel at the time who were all killed along with the staff. The assistant chef managed to survive by clinging on to a tree overhanging the restaurant. The safari vehicles and their drivers were also swept up by the fierce waters.

I realise the number who died there is just a small proportion of those who have lost their lives elsewhere , but having stayed in that particular hotel it just brings it all home in a very direct way.

I don't know whether people like Benil, the tour guide attached to the hotel, was there at the time. It would be good to have news that he and his family are OK.

On a slightly more positive note, one report said that most of the animals in the park survived as they instinctly were able to make it to higher ground.

Sri Lanka Adam's Peak in November?
Posted: Thu November 4, 2004 10:36 PM UTC
Can anyone tell me if it's possible to climb Adam's Peak in November (we'll be there the last 2 weeks)?

If so, where's a good place to base ourselves, is there any particular day of the week we should/shouldn't do it, and what sort of gear do we need to bring in terms of footwear and clothing - presumably it gets cold up there at night-time?!

Any advice would be great.

thanks

Sri Lanka Travel tips for August
Posted: Tue July 27, 2004 08:53 PM UTC
Hello dear VT Members

At the end of August i go to Sri Lanka together with a friend and we stay for three weeks. I always make my journeys on my own hand. We like to travel around and to spend a relaxing time at the beach. And if its possible we try to avoid the public places with much other tourists.
So if you can give me a good tip where to stay i would be very thankful.
But more i be interesting about Malaria prophylaxis! Is it necessary to make a prophylaxis with Lariam or Resorchin in Sri Lanka? What have you done against the danger of malaria?
For every reply i would be very thankful.
With many greetings

Sri Lanka entertainment in Hikkaduwa and Negombo
Posted: Tue July 27, 2004 11:13 AM UTC
Hello,

In the beginning of August my friends and I are coming to Sri Lanka with staying in Hikkaduwa and Negombo. I've read all the info I could find in the Internet about the country, but still there are some questions remained:
- Are there any discos or shows in the evenings? I heard that everything is closed after 8 p.m. Is it true?
- Is a sunlotion with SPF 10 enough not to get sun-burned? I am rather tanned, but my friends are not.
- Are there any Internet cafes to send e-mails or places to burn a cd with digital photos? I just worry that there will be too many photos:)

Thanks a lot,

Mirriko
