Hokkaido Which JR station go to Shikotsu-Toya National Park?
Posted: Thu May 1, 2008 05:04 PM UTC
Hi everybody,

I had read from the lonely planet regarding how to go Shikotsu-Toya National Park. However, I'm still confused. Does it mean I have to alight at the H41 Toya station?

If not, how should I go there?

Thanks

Hokkaido Should we go Hokkiado in the first 2 week of July or last 2 week of July? And where to buy Nikon?
Posted: Sat April 19, 2008 02:19 PM UTC
Hi,

My wife wants to go to Hokkiado in July. Just wonder, in the month of July, which is a better week to go? First half or second half? Besides that, both of us doesn't speak Japanese, hence, is it going to be difficult?

We intend to do it free and easy. Rent a car and drive around. Any suggestion? Which hotel to stay along the way?

I heard they have nice ramen there. Any recommendations?

Lastly, my sole purpose to go Japan is to buy Nikon gears. I heard there is a sale going on in July. Where should I get the Nikon stuffs?

Looking forward to hear from you guys.

Cheers.

Hokkaido Re: An idea of costing
Posted: Sun February 24, 2008 04:07 AM UTC
It's my first time going to Niseko where we'll be putting up at Hirafutei Prince Hotel for 10 days. However, since I have been told that most shops don't accept credit cards, I would like to ensure i am bringing enough cash. The problem is I really don't have an idea how much a meal is going to cost or drinks for that matter. Also I would like to get a few souvenirs for a couple of friends -what sort of souvenirs are typical of Niseko/ Hokkaido that wouldn't cost me an arm and a leg?And how much would it be?
Thank you.

Hokkaido Help! We need accomodations for July 2008 in or around Toyako!
Posted: Tue February 5, 2008 02:59 AM UTC
I will be attending the 2008 Hokkaido Summit at Lake Toya in July together with some of the analysts form my research Group. We will be about 20 people in total and right now it seems like we will be camping for the entire time there. Its really not all that acceptable for accredited journalists to have to rough it because they can't find accomodations within a 50 km radius of the Summit site! Does anyone know of cheaper pensions or dormitories close to the Lake Toya resort that might be able to accomodate our Group? Any information would be a great help!!!

Hokkaido Accomodation in Hokkaido Feb08
Posted: Sat January 19, 2008 02:06 AM UTC
Somebody help, pls!

We're due to be in Hokkaido for 7th-12th February. Unfortunately we didn't know there would be public holidays or the Sapporo Ice Carving Festival on that week, so now we have flights but everywhere is FULL FULL FULL!

Can someone suggest any holiday houses or maybe rental apartments or something around the ski resort areas? We're not fussy, whether in Niseko, Furano, Rusutsu... anywhere...

Thanks very much.

Plan to stay in Abashiri at 13 Feb (1 night only) for 3 people. Is there any suggestion for the hotels which are not too expensive and near the JR station? I want to book the room from online rather than by phone/fax. Thanks.

Sapporo Traveling by train in January..
Posted: Sun December 16, 2007 01:10 PM UTC
I have 3 days open during my trip to Japan next month. I’ve never been to Sapporo and was thinking about using the last 3 days of my Rail Pass to go there from Tokyo and back but I have concerns about the train service during winter. Are the scheduled train services affected by winter storms if so, how often?

Fuji Quick Stop Near Fuji
Posted: Tue August 28, 2007 04:47 AM UTC
I will be in Japan in a couple weeks and would really love to see Mt. Fuji, but time does not permit any significant visit. I will be travelling with my wife, my 1 year old daughter, and my mother-in-law. We will be travelling by shinkansen from Nagoya to Tokyo and I would like to stop off at one of the stations near Mt. Fuji and enjoy Mt. Fuji as best we can for maybe a couple hours. Does anyone have any ideas as to what would be a really scenic view of Fuji, perhaps a restaurant with a nice view, or an area that provides a scenic overlook, anyplace that will not be too difficult to get to from any shinkansen station between the cities I mentioned? Thanks!

Hi there, we are planning to spend the Christmas and New Year in Niseko. Now my friend is concerned whether there is snow for sure. He is a passionate skier and would not want to travel all the way from Finland to Japan for no snow. :) So please if you could help me convince him, that YES there is snow in late December in Niseko?! Thank you :D

Hakodate Driving in Hakodate
Posted: Tue March 13, 2007 03:50 AM UTC
Dear travellers

We intend to do a 3 day driving tour around Hakodate looping west along Route 278 and returning from Onuma and would appreciate some tips on the below.

1) Are there any points of interest along the route that are must-visits?
2) Any good places we can stop for the nights along the way?
3) We're used to left hand drive which will be opposite the Japanese system. Any difficulties foreseen?

Many thanks for any suggestions or tips.

My plan is to spend the day climbing and return to Tokyo in the late evening (if need be I will stay in Fuji overnight). Is anyone planning to climb then and would like to join me? In April I and two other students will arrive to Chitose airport in Sapporo and will need to spend one night in a hotel, have you anything to recommend? Since we cannot afford anything too expensive, the price is the main issue but I also want it to be close to transportation. Any suggestions?

Sapporo Hostel in Sapporo
Posted: Wed February 14, 2007 03:09 AM UTC
Is this a nice hostel "Ino's Place", is the location easy to reach? What type of transportation can I take from the Airport to this hostel directly?
For a private double room 4,300 yen each person, do you think this is reasonable?
Thank you for your help and kind attention.
