Hi,

we are planing to drive from south garda lake to venice in one day.
is there a preferable day to visit in venice?
I guess maybe weekends are crowded.. ?
we thoght maybe monday will be a good day - could be traffic jams on the first day of the week on the way to venice?

Venice Do these restaurants still exist?
Posted: Fri April 18, 2008 09:16 PM UTC
Hi,

I've been reading about these restaurants, but all the information is dated as 2003 or 2006. Do the following restaurants exist? If so, are they still considered good?

Alle Testiere

La Zucca

Trattoria alla Madonna

Boccadoro

Bancogiro

Osteria Alberto

Thanks in advance for your comments.

Venice Food Budget for Venice
Posted: Thu April 17, 2008 05:05 AM UTC
Hi there,

Can anyone tell me or give me a rough idea of how much to budget for eating out in Venice? As a rough guide for lunch just a sandwich/crepe from a cheap cafe or street vendor, and for dinner the cheapest kind of restaurant you can get, pizza places etc?

For instance backpackers going through Europe, how much would you budget for per day on food?

Thanks in advance,
Isabel :o)

Venice Should we go to Venice or not?
Posted: Mon April 14, 2008 03:06 PM UTC
Is Venice worth the effort to go to from Tuscany? In early October 2008, we are planning on flying from Canada to London then Ryanair from London to Marseille, France and spending 5 days in the Provence and then driving to Tuscany to spend 6+ days (Lucca, Pisa, Montalapacino, Montepulciano, Pienza, and Siena).

We are wondering if we should spend our last 1 or 2 nights in Venice (Thursday/Friday? We could fly out from Venice on Saturday early am to London and back to Canada. Total = 14 days but 2 for travel from Canada and 1 day back so 11 days.

I feel like since we are going all the way to Italy we should go to Venice as it seems so romantic but then I know it is also crowded, $$, etc. Basically it needs to be worth the time and effort to get there otherwise we will just spend the time in Tuscany and fly out from Pisa.

So thoughts on Venice??

Venice cheap, medium expensive
Posted: Mon April 14, 2008 12:25 PM UTC
looking for some recommendations of cheap places for lunch, nice mid priced places for an eveing meal, and anywhere thats expensive but worth it, just in case Wee decid e to get swept away. (staying nr Galleria bridge, for 4 nights)

We do like seafood. I would call 50-100 euors for 2 all in (with drinks) medium
I doubt we would go more than 160 euros for 2 unless there was an amazingly good reason.

I like to try the local specialities, and I thinkw e are both fairlt adventurous with food. Ta

Posted: Sun April 13, 2008 10:31 PM UTC
Hi, I'm going to be in Venice for two nights prior to leaving on a cruise in late September 2008, arriving from Milan by train. Looking for a good area and/or hotel to stay that hopefully won't cost more than 150 euro a night. Not sure if that is possible in venice but any suggestions or advice greatly appreciated.

Venice Vaporetto's Prices
Posted: Fri April 11, 2008 07:07 PM UTC
Hello!

My boyfriend and I are thinking about going to Venice in early May, and we're trying to find a hotel that we can afford... We found one at Lido, which seems to be nice, though quite basic, and the price is 60euros per night.

Our question is, how much does it cost the vaporetto to get to Venice? We would only have to use it twice, since we're spending just one night there.

Also, does anybody know how much does it cost the train from Treviso airport to Venice? And how long does the journey take?

Thank you for your help!

Venice Rain in Venice
Posted: Sun April 6, 2008 11:07 AM UTC
My husband and I are arriving in Venice next Wednesday for a week, and see a full week of showers forecast. Are these the British type of showers that you just put up your umbrella and wander on, or the North American type where you take shelter indoors?
Also at a wet 14-16C what are appropriate clothes?
Is all this rain apt to produce flooding. I read once of a hardware store in Venice where you can buy rainboots, but have lost the source. Can anyone help? Are the boots the same as we's get at home, or might they be worth taking back?

Thanks for all.

Venice Flying to Rome from Venice
Posted: Thu April 3, 2008 04:16 AM UTC
Hi everyone!

Please advise me! I am going to Venice and Rome in June (Venice first and then Rome) for only few days, for saving some time, I will fly to Rome from Venice, which domestic airline should I take? There are 2 airlines I can see: Alitalia and Air one, are they alright? Their cost is very similar to a train ticket, but it takes only 1 hour!

Thanks!

Venice I have one more question?? about Viators
Posted: Tue April 1, 2008 11:36 PM UTC
We are looking at tours in Venice and found this evening in Venice on Viators. For $128 (US$) it includes a 35 minute gondola ride and ends with dinner at the
Hostaria Ai Coristi Restaurant. The reviews on the website looks great. I was wondering if anyone here had any ideas if this is a worthwhile thing to do?? Open to any suggestions!
Thanks, Jeannie

Venice Venice to Munich by train then return to Rome
Posted: Tue April 1, 2008 11:27 PM UTC
My daughter and her friend are going to Munich for a few days from Venice then they will return to Rome to fly home. My question is what is the best way for them to get train reservations. Should they wait till they are in Venice and go to the train station or should we try to book something from here. When I look at the websites I see multi day passes, there seems to be so many options I am totally confused.
We checked out the bahn.de website. Also, what would be the most economical for them.
Everyone has also been so great on these forums...Thanks so much!!

Venice Sculptures on Grand Canal May 07
Posted: Sat March 29, 2008 05:34 PM UTC
I continue to try to identify sculptures which appeared along the Grand Canal when I visited Venice last April/May 07. They were very whimsical, large figures which appeared to be metal with a verdigris finish. I do have photos I could share if someone would be willing to take a guess. Friends who have returned tell me they are not there now, so they must have been a temporary outside exhibition. As I recall they were all along the Cannaregio and San Marco side of the Grand Canal, quite visible from the Canal.
