Hey guys,
I am arriving Venice on the 16/02 which happens to be the last day of venice carnival and since its the last day, where do the main party or "costume ppl" gather? I want to know in advance so that I don't wanna spend half a day just hunting them down. Any additional information regarding the venice carnival will be much appreciated.
thanks

Itinerary help Posted: Sat October 31, 2009 04:49 PM UTC
Here's the outline of my trip that I have planned...
Flying into Treviso (Ryan Air) Friday evening and will take the ACTV bus into Piazzale Roma. Our hotel is only a 5 min walk from P. Roma. Just plan to take a walk to rialto bridge, Piazza San marco and back to the hotel.
The next day we are taking a 7-day cruise from Marittima, so I was thinking of taking the free shuttle from P. Roma to the port terminal.
We get back early Saturday at about 6am and was planning to take the shuttle back to P. Roma, leave my luggage at the deposito bagagli (does anyone know their timings, rates and location?)
Then walk over to the venice connected point, pick up our 12 hour public transportation ticket and hop onto a water bus to san marcos square to check out the basilica and doge's square in the morning. Take the vaporetto to Murano and Burano and then back to P. Roma in the evening, grab luggage and some dinner and hop onto the ACTV bus to Treviso to catch our 9pm flight back home.
Does this sound good or should I do it in the reverse order? I am having trouble figuring out the water routes on the map...Is it the N waterbus to Murano?? I guess my plans would change depending on which waterbus routes.
Also is it too much in one day? Should we try to do the basilica/doge's square on the morning prior to our evening cruise departure?
Also any particular glass factory we ought to see in Murano? any recommendations would be helpful? we just plan to stroll around for a little bit in burano and check out the houses.
anyone use venice connected? it claims to be cheaper than buying tickets in person...
thanks,
neel

If not the Grand, which one? Posted: Thu September 24, 2009 11:08 AM UTC
I've read the opinions of some that it is not a good idea to stay on the Grand Canal with price, smell and noise given as reasons. So, which accommodation offers the best canal views? If not the Grand Canal, which canal?
Any inputs much appreciated.

Desperately seeking a decent hotel in Venice!!!!! Posted: Thu September 24, 2009 11:04 AM UTC
Hi to everyone in the Venice forum. I'm (very!!) desperately searching for a hotel close (within walking distance) of the bus/train stop in Venice. Have searched numerous websites but cannot seem to find a suitable hotel, just want a clean hotel (with a private as opposed to shared bathroom) for around £100 per night. I'm not expecting luxury for this price as I know that hotels in Venice are extremely expensive, but I cannot seem to find anything decent around this price. Thanks and hope someone might be able to help. Tina.

Waterbus at night and visiting Murano. Posted: Wed September 16, 2009 12:14 PM UTC
Hello
We are planning to visit Venice at the end of October. We need to transfer by waterbus to the 'Arsenale' stop, but this will be at around 10pm at night. I have found the waterbus numbers that are in use during the day, but at night there are apparently different 'nightline' buses with different numbers. However, I have been unable to find out at what time the nightline bus numbers as opposed to the daytime buses come into force. Does anyone know what time? Also what waterbus number/s I would need from Piazza Romana to Arsenale.
Also, another very quick question. With regard to visiting Murano, how long would we need for a visit, 2 hours, half a day, a day?? We are plannuing to be in Venice for 2 days and are not sure how long we would need to do Murano justice.
Hope someone can help with these questions, and thanks in anticipation.

How to go from Maritima Port to Piazzale Roma Posted: Fri September 4, 2009 07:36 AM UTC
I would appreciate receiving advice as to how to go from the cruise ship terminal when we leave the ship to go to Piazzale Roma. I understand that it is not easy to walk with luggage (my wife and I are seniors). If we take a taxi do you know what the approximate cost should be? Is there any other way to get there. Our cruise ship is not offering any shuttles as far as I know.
We plan to take the ATVO bus to the Marco Polo airport. Can I buy ATVO tickets at Piazzale Roma.
Thank you for your help.

Bus #5 to Airport in the morning Posted: Thu September 3, 2009 07:22 PM UTC
I've been searching around for the answer to this for a while but can't find anything helpful (in English :), but does the #5 bus leave Piazzale Roma for VCE (Marco Polo). We have an 8am flight out on a Tuesday morning, and I've heard that early morning transport can be an issue.
Thanks.

We will be getting off a cruise ship early one October Sunday morning in Venice, sight seeing and staying over night at Elite Hotel on Via Forte Marghera 119; then flying out the following morning at 7:45 AM from Marco Polo Air Port. Any suggestions for ground transportation and luggage storage and how early to get to MP air port to get through security, etc. for an early flight?

Regata Storica 2009 Posted: Mon August 31, 2009 08:15 PM UTC
I am arriving in Venice on Sunday Sep 6, and just found out that is the day for Regata Storica. This is a lucky coincidence. My question is this- will the vaporetti operate during the time of the regata? I need to take line 1 from the train station to S. Angelo. I have seen the schedule and it seems that most things start happening around 3:00 which is about the time of my arrival. I may be able to get an earlier train if needed.

Carnival in Venice 2010 Posted: Sun August 30, 2009 03:53 PM UTC
Friends are considering whether to add a few days in Venice prior to their cruise this coming February. They could be in Venice on Monday and Fat Tuesday. What might they expect? Are there lots of activities and costume parades accessible to everyone, e.g. street parties or the like, or do many/most functions center on private affairs? Thanks for any information.

Strand on Lido Posted: Fri August 28, 2009 10:51 AM UTC
My friend and I did a quick stroll through Venice yesterday, and would like to go back today (she's stationed in Vicenza, I'm visiting). Someone mentioned last night that there is more nightlife on Lido, and I saw a reference to it in a travel tip, but it wasn't very specific. Anyone with better info? If we can dance until the train starts running, that would be great.

Prices in Venice Restaurants Posted: Sun August 23, 2009 07:19 PM UTC
Several years ago we visited Venice and were told by a Venice resident that locals are charged lower prices than tourists in certain restaurants there. We are now preparing to return to Italy and we wonder if this is common practice. We were also told by a friend who just returned from Venice that there is something known as "the voice of a friend" or "voce di amico" that results in better service in restaurants and perhaps a discount. Is any, or all, of this true? We were once charged almost $100.00 at lunch in Italy for two plates of unremarkable spaghetti and some bread. We want to avoid a repeat performance. We love Italy but are on a budget. Help!

How much time to leave after plane's scheduled to get to Venice train station? Posted: Sat August 22, 2009 09:42 PM UTC
We will be traveling to Italy in September. We will fly to Venice and take a train to Rome immediately, and then return to tour Venice at the end of our trip. Our plane is scheduled to land at Marco Polo airport at 9 AM. I would like to book a train ticket. How much time should I allow to land, go through customs, get luggage, and travel to the train station? In other words, how early of a train ticket can I get without worrying about missing the train?
Thank you!
