| Venice | Arriving by train Posted: Fri May 9, 2008 12:18 PM UTC
Hi
We are having a day trip to Venice from Lago di Garda and are going by train. I know that the station is in a great location but as we are short on time how long does it take walking (with a 6 year old!) from the station to a central location (St Marks?) or is a water bus a lot quicker option, and are they near the station anyway? Thanks |

| Venice | bookshop for learning of foreign languages Posted: Thu May 8, 2008 03:58 PM UTC
I would like to take the opportunity whilst I am in Venice to buy some self-study books for learning Spanish (because I couldn't quite get them in my home country). Any bookshops near Piazzale Roma or S. Marco (or anywhere on the island)? Directions to the bookshops very much appreciated.

| Venice | how much train venice to rome Posted: Wed May 7, 2008 04:07 AM UTC
I'm thinking of catching the train from venice to rome in the morning. I looked on the trenitalia site and I can see the timetable, but under the buy column it says NO. Does this mean the train is sold out or I cant buy tickets online? If anyone has done this in Oct, how much does it usually cost? Thanks!

| Venice | Doge's palace tour - how long does this take? Posted: Thu May 1, 2008 11:41 PM UTC
Hello,
We plan on booking a Doge's Palace tour as well as the Secret Tour. Just wondering how long does the Doge's tour take to make sure we are allocating enough time. I'm thinking of booking the Doge's palace tour at 9am and the Secret Tour at 1130am (english version). Do we have enough time if we book it this way? Also since Doge's palace does not have option for Italian and English version, I assume everything is in English? Thanks a lot! |

| Venice | Dodges Palace, Vaparetto, & Gondolas... oh my... Posted: Wed April 30, 2008 11:14 PM UTC
Can anyone help with these questions.
1. How much does Dodges Palace cost to enter and can you pre-book entrance so that you don't have to wait in line? 2. Where does the Carnival Cruise ship dock and how do you get from there to Saint Mark's Square? Can you walk to Saint Marks from the terminal? 3. If you are taking a vaparetto from the terminal area to St. Mark's Square, how much will it cost? 4. How much are gondola rides going for in 2008? 5. Where is the best place to catch a gondola and what the best time to take one? 6. What is the best route to take on a gondola ride? |

| Venice | Transportation in Venice - VeniceCard and Waterbus tickets Posted: Wed April 30, 2008 05:53 PM UTC
Hello! We are going to Venice for the first time this early May and will be spending 3 days there.
Based on the typical must-see sights in Venice (i've not done full research on places to see yet but heard about Doges Palace and Basilica San Marco and really interested to go there), what type of transport cards/venice cards do you suggest? Is it wise to purchase a venice orange card? What about unlimited waterbus tickets say for 72 hrs? Will it really take a lot of waterbus rides to visit most of the interesting sights in Venice? Thanks a lot! |

| Venice | Venice Card Orange Posted: Sun April 27, 2008 08:43 PM UTC
Hi!
As you've mentioned the Venice cards, I'd like to inquire whether buying the Venice Card Orange enables one to skip the long queues to Doge Palace etc., even though it ensures free entrance? It'll be great if you could inform me, as I plan to leave in about a fortnight. Thanks! |

| Venice | 30th Anniversary treat Posted: Sun April 27, 2008 12:09 PM UTC
Hi all,
My wife and I will be arriving in Venice for two nights at the end of a holiday in the Dolomites. We arrive on our 30th anniversary so have decided to treat ourselves and have booked into the Bauer Palazzo Hotel on the Grand Canal. We will be arriving by car and need to park it as close as possible, so we're looking at the possibility of the car park at Piazzale Roma. 1/ Does anybody know the cost of parking at Piazzale Roma for 2 full days? 2/ Is there a cheaper solution, keeping in mind we have luggage? 3/ Has anybody got knowledge of the hotel? Thanks in advance for any help |

| Venice | Water Bus tickets Posted: Fri April 25, 2008 03:45 AM UTC
This is after the fact because I'm already home. But...
I read on a website today that one needs to validate a vaporetto ticket someplace before you start to ride. I didn't see anything about that. Was I really supposed to do that? Would I have been in trouble if someone had asked for our tickets? My real questions - two people offered to give me a free ticket. TWO different people. One a man and one a woman. I didn't take the tickets because I was afraid it was some kind of scam. Was it? |

| Venice | Venice to Lucerne route Posted: Wed April 23, 2008 06:50 PM UTC
Hi all! Hope to get some help here because I've tried researching online for information on overnight train routes from Venice to Lucerne, but to no avail.
I'll be leaving Venice on the 11th of June and travelling towards Lucerne. I'm looking for an overnight/night train from the Venice Santa Lucia train station that might leave anytime after 19:00, as long as it reaches Lucerne in the morning (not at deadly hours like 04:00 though). I've gone onto sbb.ch to find some train timings, however no prices were stated and I'm wondering if reservations are compulsory for overnight trains. Does anyone know roughly how much an overnight train to Lucerne from Venice might be? There are 3 of us travelling together and we'd possibly get a 3 or 4 beds sleeping compartment. |

| Venice | A few questions on Venice Posted: Tue April 22, 2008 09:55 AM UTC
I tried to find the answers to my questions online and to make sure these weren't already asked on VT........
1.I'm arriving by train into Venice St Lucia station in order to take a cruise. Is it possible to walk from the station to the Maritima cruise terminal or do I have to take the Vaporetto? I have wheels on my luggage and not afraid to walk. 2.My cruise overnights in Venice on a Monday night. I've been to Venice before, loved it but could do without the crowds, what's Venice like on a MOnday Night? I'm not looking for restaurants, wondering if there are any must see watering holes or places to hear music? 3. Last question, what is there to see on Lido? Was thinking of spending day 2 before the sailaway and see what is out there. |

| Venice | Venice to Split Posted: Sun April 20, 2008 04:35 AM UTC
What is the best way to travel from Venice to Split. Can you go straight through without stopping in Trieste. Is train better than bus. Does the train/bus go through Zagreb or can Zagreb be by-passed? I think a train leaves Venice about 7.30 pm for Trieste, is this correct? Thank you

| Venice | Food Budget for Venice Posted: Thu April 17, 2008 05:05 AM UTC
Hi there,
Can anyone tell me or give me a rough idea of how much to budget for eating out in Venice? As a rough guide for lunch just a sandwich/crepe from a cheap cafe or street vendor, and for dinner the cheapest kind of restaurant you can get, pizza places etc? For instance backpackers going through Europe, how much would you budget for per day on food? Thanks in advance, Isabel :o) |

| Venice | Should we go to Venice or not? Posted: Mon April 14, 2008 03:06 PM UTC
Is Venice worth the effort to go to from Tuscany? In early October 2008, we are planning on flying from Canada to London then Ryanair from London to Marseille, France and spending 5 days in the Provence and then driving to Tuscany to spend 6+ days (Lucca, Pisa, Montalapacino, Montepulciano, Pienza, and Siena).
We are wondering if we should spend our last 1 or 2 nights in Venice (Thursday/Friday? We could fly out from Venice on Saturday early am to London and back to Canada. Total = 14 days but 2 for travel from Canada and 1 day back so 11 days. I feel like since we are going all the way to Italy we should go to Venice as it seems so romantic but then I know it is also crowded, $$, etc. Basically it needs to be worth the time and effort to get there otherwise we will just spend the time in Tuscany and fly out from Pisa. So thoughts on Venice?? |

looking for some recommendations of cheap places for lunch, nice mid priced places for an eveing meal, and anywhere thats expensive but worth it, just in case Wee decid e to get swept away. (staying nr Galleria bridge, for 4 nights)
We do like seafood. I would call 50-100 euors for 2 all in (with drinks) medium I doubt we would go more than 160 euros for 2 unless there was an amazingly good reason. I like to try the local specialities, and I thinkw e are both fairlt adventurous with food. Ta |

| Venice | Where to stay in Venice? Posted: Sun April 13, 2008 10:31 PM UTC
Hi, I'm going to be in Venice for two nights prior to leaving on a cruise in late September 2008, arriving from Milan by train. Looking for a good area and/or hotel to stay that hopefully won't cost more than 150 euro a night. Not sure if that is possible in venice but any suggestions or advice greatly appreciated.
