Vernazza Doable from Florence?
Posted: Sun June 14, 2009 08:58 PM UTC
Possibly someone can talk me out of this visit, but I just had to post just in case it was doable. Is it possible to take a peek at Vernazza in a day (maybe stay overnight). Is it ok to start a short walk around 2:30 PM, and take a good look around?

I have a limited amount of time in Italy this October, but I will be in Florence for a day (mostly to go to the old pharmacy and get my Italian soaps as I've already been to Florence).

It now occurred to me I can to take a peek at Vernazza. I have done some research on Cinque Terre and know about the five villages that you hike across. At this time I don't want to do all the hiking, I just want to go to Vernazza, take a peek at the ocean, maybe stay there for one night.

Before Florence, I will start in Rome and be in Perugia. I could skip Florence and do my shopping in Rome (there's a branch of the old pharmacy in Rome, but never like the one in Florence).

It looks like a six hour+ ride to Vernazza from Perugia, and ironically does stop at Firenze-SMN on the way. If I take the early train from Perugia it arrives in Vernazza around 1:30 PM. There's about an hour an a half layover in Florence (just about enough to do my shopping if the store was open that early, which it's not).

This does sound like a bit too much rushing ... but I'd really love to take that peek. Any comments?

Vernazza arriving June 2 (National holiday) with a car...NEED HELP
Posted: Tue May 19, 2009 02:14 AM UTC
Coming from Tuscany and will still have the car as the La Spezia office is closed. Should we drive into Vernazza or park somewhere in La Spezia or Levanto? We don't need to have a car while we are in Cinque Terre for 3 days.

We are staying at Gianni Franzi....is there some overnight parking available? Another thought is to leave the car in Pisa airport (is open) and train into Vernazza and be done with the car. Got any suggestions?

Grazie.

Vernazza Cinque Terre
Posted: Sun May 17, 2009 04:27 AM UTC
Hi Folks,

I am skeptical about my travel plan in CT. Initially, I had planned to stay 2 days in Milan and visit CT the second day and back to Milan same day by 8 or 9 pm and leave for Venice on third day. My alternative is to stay a night at Vernazza and leave to Venice from there. Which makes sense the most or , are there better alternatives. Please help.

Vernazza How safe is the parking lot.
Posted: Wed April 8, 2009 04:35 PM UTC
My wife and I are going to visit Vernazza in May. We will be driving and wonder how secure the parking lot is. We are both in our 60's and would prefer to leave part of our luggage in the car and only take a small bag to the hotel. Can anyone provide any advice?

Vernazza How to get htere and how to stay there!
Posted: Sat January 31, 2009 04:25 PM UTC
Hi guys,

This summer I'm planning a vacation to Vernazza but I'm having some difficulties finding traintickets. We travel from Rotterdam (NL) and I have no idea if we have to go via La Spezia or Genoa, or even somewhere else?
On top of that I was wondering if anyone could reccomend cheap lodging? (I mean like hostel cheap) I've heard about Rina and Elisabetta rooms?
If you know anything I'd love to hear it! Thanks!

Ciao!

Vernazza One Day Cooking Class
Posted: Sun June 29, 2008 01:46 AM UTC
My daughter and I would love to participate in a one day cooking class while we are in Cinque Terre. We are staying in Vernazza but wouldn't mind travelling/walking to get to a class.

Are there any around the area, perhaps held by local people in farmhouses or similar?

Thanks for you help.

Vernazza Hiking shoes
Posted: Fri April 4, 2008 04:30 AM UTC
I am headed to Cinque Terre for three days of hiking & exploring. I am used to Intense hikes and climbs and usually wear running shoes. However, i am trying to pack light and was hoping to get away with some light weight PUMA tennis shoes. they have traction on the sole but no ankle support. they are very comfortable.

Will these work? Is there intense elevation or more of an uneven trail?

Vernazza Which town?
Posted: Wed April 2, 2008 08:33 PM UTC
A friend and I are visiting Cinque Terre from a Thursday to a Saturday in May. Which town should we stay in? We're 27, so we're hoping for a place that is beautiful with local flavor, and may have a small nightlife scene. We are not expecting to do any major partying, but we'd like to find something to do in the evenings. Which town would be best?

Thank you!

Vernazza drive or take a train
Posted: Mon March 3, 2008 10:22 PM UTC
My husband and I will be traveling from Verona to Cinque Terre, staying in Vernazza. We'd like to drive and park a car when we get there. We do understand one would not use a car in that area. Best route to go if we drive? Or should we take the train? Have checked some schedules, looks like we'd have to change trains a couple times. Best to connect thru La Spezia or Genoa? Thanks

Vernazza Train or car rental
Posted: Wed February 27, 2008 06:35 PM UTC
I will be travelling to Italy this May. Currently we are 2 nights Vernazza, 2 nights Venice and 4 nights Dolomite region.
My original plan was to rent a car in Venice and return to Milan airport.
I was doing this to avoid parking fees in Vernazza and Venice and most importantly the hassle of driving. This will be my 2nd time to Italy the first all by train which was great when they weren't in their on again off again strike mode.
I now realize the train travel time from Vernazza to Venice is 7 hours!!
Would it be better to pickup in Vernazza or nearby and then park in Venice?
So my question is what kind of drive is it from Vernazza to Venice. Is it as long as the train? Living in the mountains I know you can be 15 miles from somewhere but it may still take an hour to get there.
Help.
Peace and Grazie

Vernazza Cinque Terre
Posted: Thu January 24, 2008 09:06 PM UTC
I will be travelling to Italy in March and wanted to take a few days and visit Cinque Terre. We will have a rented car, so was planning to leave the rental car in Spezia and travel by train to the different towns in Cinque Terre, does
anyone know where I can leave the rented car in Spezia? I was also thinking of staying a couple of nights in Vernazza, is this a good choice or should we stay in Spezia and only do a day visit to Cinque Terre towns. Thanks for your help.

Vernazza Train to Vernazza, or La Spezia?
Posted: Wed November 21, 2007 01:09 AM UTC
I have read in several places that it is best to take the train to La Spezia and then take a local train from there to Vernazza. However, Trenitalia.it shows trains going from Milan directly to Vernazza.

Is there any specific reason to change trains in La Spezia?

We are travelling from Genoa to Florence by train and plan to stop for several hours in Vernazza and possibly one of the other villages. As we will have all our luggage with us we need to know if the train station at Vernazza has secure travel lockers we can leave our luggage while exploring the village? or if there is somewhere nearby we can store luggage.

Vernazza point to point train travel, Cinque Terre to Nice, France
Posted: Sun May 6, 2007 09:52 AM UTC
My sister and I are traveling with her little dog. He is a well travelled dog; this is his 3rd time in Europe. This year, we are traveling from the USA to Milan; then, by train to Verona ( we'll stay here for 2 wks ). From verona, we like to stop by Parma and later proceed to the Cinque Terre cities. Could someone please help me with a suggested train route from Parma and to which city is best to visit : vernazza ? This will be during the later part of August ( 26 th > Sept 3 ). And, from Cinque Terre, we will travel to Nice, France. Could someone help us with a train route to Nice ?
