From my previous question, Camere Latorre looks like not such a good place to stay. Has anyone heard of Lia?

| Vernazza | Hiking shoes Posted: Fri April 4, 2008 03:30 AM UTC
I am headed to Cinque Terre for three days of hiking & exploring. I am used to Intense hikes and climbs and usually wear running shoes. However, i am trying to pack light and was hoping to get away with some light weight PUMA tennis shoes. they have traction on the sole but no ankle support. they are very comfortable.
Will these work? Is there intense elevation or more of an uneven trail? |

| Vernazza | Which town? Posted: Wed April 2, 2008 07:33 PM UTC
A friend and I are visiting Cinque Terre from a Thursday to a Saturday in May. Which town should we stay in? We're 27, so we're hoping for a place that is beautiful with local flavor, and may have a small nightlife scene. We are not expecting to do any major partying, but we'd like to find something to do in the evenings. Which town would be best?
Thank you! |

| Vernazza | drive or take a train Posted: Mon March 3, 2008 09:22 PM UTC
My husband and I will be traveling from Verona to Cinque Terre, staying in Vernazza. We'd like to drive and park a car when we get there. We do understand one would not use a car in that area. Best route to go if we drive? Or should we take the train? Have checked some schedules, looks like we'd have to change trains a couple times. Best to connect thru La Spezia or Genoa? Thanks

| Vernazza | Train or car rental Posted: Wed February 27, 2008 05:35 PM UTC
I will be travelling to Italy this May. Currently we are 2 nights Vernazza, 2 nights Venice and 4 nights Dolomite region.
My original plan was to rent a car in Venice and return to Milan airport. I was doing this to avoid parking fees in Vernazza and Venice and most importantly the hassle of driving. This will be my 2nd time to Italy the first all by train which was great when they weren't in their on again off again strike mode. I now realize the train travel time from Vernazza to Venice is 7 hours!! Would it be better to pickup in Vernazza or nearby and then park in Venice? So my question is what kind of drive is it from Vernazza to Venice. Is it as long as the train? Living in the mountains I know you can be 15 miles from somewhere but it may still take an hour to get there. Help. Peace and Grazie |

| Vernazza | Cinque Terre Posted: Thu January 24, 2008 08:06 PM UTC
I will be travelling to Italy in March and wanted to take a few days and visit Cinque Terre. We will have a rented car, so was planning to leave the rental car in Spezia and travel by train to the different towns in Cinque Terre, does
anyone know where I can leave the rented car in Spezia? I was also thinking of staying a couple of nights in Vernazza, is this a good choice or should we stay in Spezia and only do a day visit to Cinque Terre towns. Thanks for your help. |

| Vernazza | Train to Vernazza, or La Spezia? Posted: Wed November 21, 2007 12:09 AM UTC
I have read in several places that it is best to take the train to La Spezia and then take a local train from there to Vernazza. However, Trenitalia.it shows trains going from Milan directly to Vernazza.
Is there any specific reason to change trains in La Spezia? |

| Vernazza | Luggage Storage Posted: Mon September 10, 2007 02:38 AM UTC
We are travelling from Genoa to Florence by train and plan to stop for several hours in Vernazza and possibly one of the other villages. As we will have all our luggage with us we need to know if the train station at Vernazza has secure travel lockers we can leave our luggage while exploring the village? or if there is somewhere nearby we can store luggage.

| Vernazza | train station Posted: Sat August 25, 2007 04:49 AM UTC
We are traveling to Cinque Terre from Venice and when I look at the train schedules they list 2 stations for La Spezia which is where I understand we get off, Le Spezia C.le and La Spezia Migl.
Does anyone know which station to get off at to catch the train to Vernazza Thanks, udgirl |

| Vernazza | point to point train travel, Cinque Terre to Nice, France Posted: Sun May 6, 2007 08:52 AM UTC
My sister and I are traveling with her little dog. He is a well travelled dog; this is his 3rd time in Europe. This year, we are traveling from the USA to Milan; then, by train to Verona ( we'll stay here for 2 wks ). From verona, we like to stop by Parma and later proceed to the Cinque Terre cities. Could someone please help me with a suggested train route from Parma and to which city is best to visit : vernazza ? This will be during the later part of August ( 26 th > Sept 3 ). And, from Cinque Terre, we will travel to Nice, France. Could someone help us with a train route to Nice ?

| Vernazza | Visiting Cinque Terre -- parking and accommodation advice Posted: Mon November 6, 2006 04:52 PM UTC
Hello,
My friend and I will be visiting Cinque Terre for a couple days just before Easter Weekend 2007. Normally I wouldn't worry about crowds and making reservations, but since it is so close to the holidays I think we should start thinking about this now. Ideally we would like to stay in Vernazza. Any advice on reasonable (not too expensive) guesthouses to stay at? We will be driving from Genoa, so we will need to deal with parking. I have seen that there is a parking lot in Vernazza. How much does it cost? Is it safe? Is there a chance the lot will be full on the weekdays before Easter? We will likely arrive fairly early in the morning -- certainly before noon. If the lot in Vernazza is full, I guess the option is then to backtrack and park in Monterosso and then take a train to Vernazza. I guess I'm wondering if it is just easier to look for a place to stay in Monterosso as there is a better chance of avaiable parking. From there we can hike the 5 cities. But part of me really wants to stay in a quiet, rustic place...so I'm really leaning toward Vernazza. Any advice/suggestion would be appreciated! Craig |

| Vernazza | winter in Cinque Terre? Posted: Sun September 17, 2006 08:29 AM UTC
Unfortunately the only time I have to travel is December to February, and I would love to visit the Cinque Terre, likely mid January to early February. This is where I've hoped to spend the "week or two to write and paint" part of my journey...
The hostel in Manarola is closed at that time; Vernazza is next on my list for "where to stay"...but what will winter there be like? How cold? How wet? Everything closed? Or at least a cafe or two for meals and hopefully at least one cheap/nice place to stay! Any input or suggestions welcome! Eric |

| Vernazza | what about luggage and all those steps Posted: Sat August 5, 2006 07:15 PM UTC
Since so many hotels and rooms seem to have a hundred steps, which we won't want to climb even with only our "carry on" luggage, is it possible to economically check our luggage at the train station and just carry the overnight necessities up all those steps?
We're not elderly(54 and 64)but also not in our 20's--but don't want to limit our options. Travelling from Georgia USA |

| Vernazza | Possible day trip from Pisa? Posted: Wed March 15, 2006 07:54 PM UTC
We are hoping to stay in Pisa for a few days, using it as a base before we continue to Florence, and would like to visit some (perhaps Vernazza) or as much as we can of the Cinque Terre by way of a day trip. Is this possible in one day or am I being overly optimistic time-wise? Should we in fact be seeing the Cinque Terre villages over several days using La Spezia as a base instead? We would be relying on train for transport from Pisa. Many thanks in advance!

| Vernazza | family accomodations Posted: Sat February 18, 2006 05:52 PM UTC
We are a family of six with four children 17-20 and we are in Cinque Terre for 2 nights, at the end of March. We would love to find accomodations that could accomodate us all together, for a reasonable price. Is it realistic to think we could book something when we get there, or should we try to find something before we go? Anyone found accomodations for a large family in Cinque Terre? Thanks!
