Reykjavík how much time to spend in the Blue Llagoon?
Posted: Fri November 6, 2009 05:32 PM UTC
Hi there,

How much time would you spent at the Blue Lagoon? Besides obviously swimming there, I'm an avid photographer so I anticipate walking around and taking some pictures. We were going to get one of those packages where they pick you up in the morning from your hotel, stop there for a few hours, and then drop you off at the airport. 9-2 sounds reasonable? too much? too little? thanks!

Iceland Journey from Seydisfjordur to Reykjavik
Posted: Tue October 27, 2009 03:49 PM UTC
Hi! I'm planning a trip to Faroe Islands and Iceland in May-June in the next year, and I start to plan a trip now. I will have 12 days for Iceland. I plan to arrive by ferry to Seydisfjordur and then make a trip to Reykjavik, from where I will take a plane back home. The interesting part is that I will be travelling alone and mostly by hitch-hiking, staying in a tent overnight. Can anyone help me with suggesting a route to take? I would definitely like to spend as much time on foot as possible, while exploring wild places. Also it would be nice to do some hiking in mountains/glaciers, but I'm not sure if it's possible without having a vehicle - would I be able to get to some really interesting places to hike at by foot?

Iceland Reykjavik and Golden Circle tour in early December
Posted: Tue October 27, 2009 10:24 AM UTC
Hi all,
I am thinking of visiting Iceland for 4 or 5 days in early December, around the 2nd.
I know the weather will most likely be rainy and not much daylight, is it still worth visiting at this time of year?
I want to do the Golden Circle Tour (like everybody who goes for just a few days!). I think it operates all year round, though I guess partially in darkness?
Will there most likely be snow and ice everywhere? I was reading that sometimes that area of Iceland is warmer in winter than a lot of Europe.
Anyway, any tips or suggestions from people who have visited at this time of year or live there would be much appreciated:-)

Reykjavík Going to Iceland in November... will the weather be really that bad?
Posted: Fri October 16, 2009 07:28 PM UTC
For what I understand, the days will be Short (about 10AM-4:30), and Cold (31-38F). Possibly a lot of rain. I don't mind the short and cold, but I'm worried about the rain. Would this be a big problem for sightseeing? Does it usually rain all day, or just sporadic? I assume most of the tourism is in the summer. Is it a bad idea to go in Nov? (needless to say, the deal I'm looking at is super cheap!). Is there a lot of tourism in November?

thanks!

Iceland Isafjordur at New Year
Posted: Fri October 2, 2009 11:11 AM UTC
I'm thinking, perhaps ill advisedly, about doing a trip to Isafjordur at New Year, probably for a long weekend (say 4 days), flying in from Reykjavik.

As well as seeing the town I'd like to see some sights in the local area - are they any tours running at that time of year? Or does anyone have any experience of car rental up there, will the roads be open?

In early Jan how much daylight is there - about 4 hours or so?

Thanks in advance.

Iceland Summer plans
Posted: Thu October 1, 2009 10:09 PM UTC
Greetings from Montana!

Hey I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for cheap ways to survive two weeks in Iceland without limitimg our stay to a hotel room in Reykjavik. My fiance and I are planning a two week long trip there in June and are on a limited budget. Also, we did some research and figured Iceland is somewhat of an expensive country. Is camping a legitimate idea for the majority of the time we're there? Thanks!!!

Iceland To anyone and everyone living in Iceland
Posted: Tue September 22, 2009 09:51 PM UTC
Hi, from the UK,

A strange question really, but I was just wondering how life has changed (if at all) for the normal man/woman in the street in Iceland since the banking collapse in Oct 2008?? Is your life any different ? Have the prices of food / fuel etc increased ? What happened to the interest rates ? Is it harder to get a mortgage ?? Have your pensions / savings suffered ? What is the exchange rate with leading currencies etc ?? Has unemployment increased dramatically?

Anyway, you get the idea... I am just genuinely interested to hear from normal people, living normal lives !

Obviously it goes without saying, I hope you can report back that not much has happened, you aren't unduly affected, and you are all as content with your lives as before !

Many thanks

Reykjavík Region First visit to Iceland!!
Posted: Mon September 14, 2009 01:13 PM UTC
Hi Guys,
Myself and three of my friends are heading to reykjavik on the 14th of October for 4 nights, this our first time ever visiting Iceland and we are hoping for some suggestions on tours etc. We have only booked our flights at the moment and have nothing else booked. Can anyone tell me what baldursbra guesthouse is like as this is where we are thinking about booking? We are thinking about renting a car for a few days or maybe even for the full length we are there and finding our own way around. Can anyone direct us towards cheap (I realise thats not easy to find in Iceland!!) car rental and tours as we would like to see as much as possible in the short time but on as little money as possible. Also, the Iceland Airwaves festival takes place during our visit and I was wondering if this is worth going to? Sorry I know theres a lot of questions in this.
Thanks in advance for all your help!

Can anyone provide any pointers about Icelandic winters? Things to do etc.

We'd like some off the beaten track trips if possible..

Iceland Ideas on a 4 Day visit to Iceland
Posted: Tue September 1, 2009 03:00 AM UTC
I will be in Iceland from the 17th - 21st September. I kind of booked the stop over on impulse and now I'm not sure what to do. I read some sites and it looks like I can kill a day or two in Reykjavik (golden circle and visiting the lagoon). Other than that I'm not sure what to do. I don't want to spend too much money but I don't mind hiring a car because I don't want to miss out on the landscape. I like light to moderate hiking but I'm think that if there are any scenic drives that cover a couple of days then I'd be into that.

Thanks in advance for all your suggestions.

Iceland Traveling Around on a Budget
Posted: Sat August 29, 2009 02:03 AM UTC
Hello,

I'll be going to Iceland for a week fairly soon 1/09-7/09 and have booked the Golden Circle tour and the Blue Lagoon.

I won't be able to afford to go on any more guided tours or rent a car and was wondering if anyone could give me any advice on the most affordable way to get to places like Jökulsárlón or Skaftafell, or if anyone could recommend any areas to visit close to Reykjavik>

Any help would be much appreciated!

Reykjavík Visiting Reykjavík for New Year's Eve.... Is It a good idea?
Posted: Wed August 19, 2009 08:09 PM UTC
Hello, we are planning on visiting Reykjavík for a week around New Year's Eve. I understand there will be very little, almost no sunlight at this time but should that dissuade us from going?

We'd like to visit some sights around Reykjavík and I guess this would be more difficult in the dark.

Also I've read that New Year's Eve is an interesting event in Reykjavík, what should we plan on seeing?

Thanks,
David and Hélène

Iceland Iceland in November...
Posted: Fri August 14, 2009 04:02 AM UTC
I planned a trip to Iceland for 6 days in early November. I have no idea what to do or the best way to get around. I want to spend as much time outdoors as possible but i know conditions can be kind of rough around this time of year. Is it worth me renting a car and trying to just head up the ring road on my own? I know 6 days isnt long enough to make it all the way around. Kinda just looking to plan out my trip as inexpensively as possible and possibly hook up with some other travelers along the way. Also very interested in the viking roots of Iceland....thanks.

Iceland 6 day itinerary questions
Posted: Thu August 6, 2009 02:57 AM UTC
We are planning a 6 day trip during the 2nd week of September and we're a bit overwhelmed with so many things to do/see. My husband and I are most interested in natural beauty and landscape (hence this trip to Iceland!). We plan to rent a car (2wd), but we're open to doing a day on a jeep/bus tour if it makes sense. So far, this is what we want to do. Any suggestions, additions, deletions welcomed!

Drive for the day up to Snaefellsnes peninsula

Drive for the day around Golden Circle

Drive south coast to Jokulsjarlon, stopping various places along the way including Skaftafell and taking boat in glacial lagoon. Overnight (or 2) in Kirkjubaejarklauster

Glacier hike, south coast (few hours?)

Landmannalaugar as a day trip or some how connected to our south coast drive

I know we need a 4x4 for Landmannalaugar, so we would either do a day tour for that or a take a bus. If we only have time for either Landmannaluagar or Snaefellsnes, which one is more scenic or breathtaking? Any insight into what not to miss in this general itinerary, if this is too much for our limited time, etc., I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance!

Reykjavík Lost and Found in Reykjavik? Lost a necklace...
Posted: Sun August 2, 2009 08:12 PM UTC
hi,

last week I was in Reykjavik for few days (will build the pages after summer hols...) and I did not just lose my heart to Reykjavik but also my silver necklace there. Now, I have no idea when I lost it or where but I thought about contacting the Lost and found office in hope that someone had found it and returned it... Its a silver necklace with a blue stone, no real value except sentimental.

I found a womens handbag in ladies room in Perlan and I returned it to the cafeteria there. The owner soon came to look for it and found it in the cafeteria. I could only imagine the panic what she felt realizing that she lost her handbag... she got it back but will I see my necklace never again? I hope my karma will help me to find my dear necklace...

So, if you know the email address for the lost and found office or a Reykjavik webpage where I could ask around I would be grateful!

Thanks!

Reykjavík Region transportation to natural wonders

We have an 8 hour layover on our way to london. I have thought about renting a car at the airport and driving the golden circle. Is this something that is feasible? We will be there 9-2-09. It sounds like the tours would not fit our time schedule.

Iceland doubts
Posted: Wed July 29, 2009 04:27 PM UTC
Hallo!
I am looking forward to go to Iceland, from 9 to 21 august, but now I have some doubts:
1- we booked a Suzuki Jimni because we want to go to Landmannalaugar and Askja, but I read that there are many rivers to cross, do you think our car is suitable to go especially through F26, F910, F225, F210, F985?
2- we would like to go on the glacier Vatnajokull and spend there not more than 4 hours, do you recommend a skidoo excursion or a guided walk tour?
Thank you

Posted: Mon July 27, 2009 04:43 AM UTC
Hello! My wife and I are traveling to Iceland next month for the first time and I was hoping to get suggestions from the group. Here is our 12 day itinerary:

Day One: Arrive in Iceland late Friday night. Stay in a hotel in Reykjavic and experience the Reykjavic nightlife.

Day Two: Golden Circle day Tour (Geysir, Strokkur, Gullfoss, and Þingvellir), any left over time spent touring Rejkjavic.

Day Three: Possible white water rafting trip, or boat trip to the Westmen islands, or possibly a horse riding tour. Night in Reykjavik or maybe head on to Snaefellnes for the night.

Day Four: Pick up rental car. Leave Reykjavik and pass through Borgarnes on the way to the Snaefellnes Peninsula. Night in Snaefellnes.

Day Five: Morning in Snaefellnes Peninsula, and on to the West Fjords. Hotel in Isafjordur.

Day Six: Day in West Fjords visiting Breidavik Beaches and Latrabjarg (western most point of Europe). Hotel in Isafjordur.

Day Seven: Leave early to Akureyri stopping in Bru, Saudarkokur, Skagufjordour, and Siglufjordur on the way. Stay the night in Akureyri or near by.

Day Eight: Whale watching from Husavik in the morning, and touring Akureyri afternoon/night. Night in Akureyri.

Day Nine: Dettifoss, Myvatn, and possibly seeing some of the interior. Night in Akureyri.

Day Ten: Return rental car. Plane/boat ride to Grimsey. More exploring of Akureyri. Hotel in AAkureyri.

Day Eleven: Early flight from Akureyri to Reykjavik. All day tour of the Jokulsarlon glacial lakes. Night in Reykjavik.

Let me know if you have any suggestions based on the itinerary above. Thanks!
