Tokyo-to Hot Springs Near Tokyo
Posted: Sun July 20, 2008 03:22 PM UTC
Hi! I would like to experience soaking in a hot spring in Japan. I will be there in April and I was wondering where is the best place near Tokyo. I will also be spending the night there so if you could recommend an inn or a hotel that would be great as well.

Tokyo Avoid travel to Japan in late December??
Posted: Tue July 15, 2008 06:14 AM UTC
I'm planning a 5 day vacation from December 24-28 (visiting Tokyo city proper, Kyoto & Disney Sea. But I keep hearing that late December leading up to New Years are dates to avoid when travelling to Japan. Why is this so?

Is it because all shops and attractions would be closed? This is my first time to visit Japan and I would feel really bad if I go there and most of the sites are closed :(

Or is it because holiday traffic would make it impossible to see as many sites as possible? This would be a concern because I'm staying for just 5 days...

Or is it because late Decemeber is an expensive time of the year to visit Japan?

Or is it because of the weather? (I love cold weather, the colder the better.... so that's not a problem for me)

The next convenient time for me to take a vacation is 1st week April. Do you guys think this is a better time to go instead of December 24-28?

Love to hear your thoughts & advice.

Tokyo Travel Time - Narita - Tokyo
Posted: Mon July 14, 2008 05:42 PM UTC
Hello. Our flight will touchdown at Narita International Airport around 1:00p.m. Assuming we'll be done with customs and luggage collection at 2:00pm, how long will it take to travel by car from the airport to Tokyo (Grand Hyatt Hotel)?

We heard that the trip can take as long as 3 hours during rush hour :( Will we be facing the same kind of traffic conditions given our arrival time above?

Looking forward to your comments. Thanks!

Tokyo Veggie Friendly Restaurant in Tokyo
Posted: Mon July 14, 2008 02:54 AM UTC
Hi,

Does anyone know of a veggie friendly restaurant in Tokyo which will also server traditional Japanese food for non-vegetarians? I don't mind if it is expensive - would be good if it was in a nice location/had good views also.

Perhaps I am asking too much?

Thanks in advance.

Tokyo Backpack or wheelie bag?
Posted: Sun July 13, 2008 02:54 AM UTC
Are wheelie bags a hindrance in Japan, with many staircases to negotiate? What about in crowded trains from the airport and around the country? Is it better to stick to a backpack?

Tokyo Drinking Age?
Posted: Fri July 11, 2008 06:52 PM UTC
I don't mean to sound ignorant, lol, but is there a drinking age in Japan? I've read about being able to buy sake from vending machines so I don't see how they could have a drinking age and enforce it with those, lol. Just wondering if one could go into any restaurant and order wine or whatever they wanted.

Tokyo Cheap travel from London to Tokyo
Posted: Wed July 9, 2008 12:31 PM UTC
Hi everyone,

A friend of mine is moving to Japan soon, and I would like to visit him. He expects to be living in the Tokyo area. I've had a look for flights, and don't seem to be able to find flights much cheaper than £500 direct from London to Tokyo.

I'll continue to look for indirect flights, but I wondered if anyone knew a way for me to get there by a different route (maybe fly to somewhere near and get a boat, or fly to different part of Japan and get the train). I wouldn't mind stopping for a night en route if that would help get the cost down.

Thanks for your help!

Tokyo Best way to travel between Narita and Haneda?
Posted: Tue July 8, 2008 03:32 AM UTC
I fly into Narita and have a connection out of Haneda and just wondering what to expect? How should I travel between the two? Subway? How long of a time allotment should I allow myself? And lastly, would I be best to travel with a rolling suitcase or with my oversized backpack?

Tokyo Events/ Things to do in Tokyo from 8/1/08 through 8/13/08?
Posted: Sun July 6, 2008 02:35 AM UTC
Hey yall,
A friend and I have been talking about going to Japan for a while now. We finally said to hell with it and purchased a 2 week trip from Aug 1, 2008 through Aug 13, 2008. I have been searching for some sort the net for some sort of 'happenings' page, but haven't found much. We are both mid 20s so keep that in mind if you respond.
We found out about Summer Sonic Festival and scooped up tickets already.

Also, if you know of anything local to do or random places we should see, please list them
We will be staying near Asakusabashi Station (JR+Toei),Bakurocho St (JR),Akihabara St (JR+Metro) if there is anything nearby.
I also have no idea what the above means but I'm hoping they are all subways around Tokyo..haha
Thanks,
Dan

Tokyo Travelling in Japan during Golden Week - how bad is it?
Posted: Fri July 4, 2008 05:20 AM UTC
Hello,

I just discovered that the two weeks my friend and I are planning to be in Japan next spring (April 18 - May 3, 2009) overlap part of Golden Week (April 29 - May 5).

Would staying put in Tokyo during that period make things easier (since I assume people are leaving the city and going to the countryside)?

Does all accommodation become more expensive at that time, or just the big hotels?

Can we still have a good time or will every attraction and public transport be packed? What if we're just visiting around Tokyo?

I haven't booked any plane ticket yet but want to do it soon because I'll be flying on reward miles. I'm planning to fly back to Canada on May 3. Thanks.

Tokyo Whirlwind Tokyo Tour
Posted: Fri June 20, 2008 10:27 AM UTC
I will be in Taiwan and Indonesia this summer for 3 weeks. This will be my last chance for a holiday for 3-4 years, so I am trying to do as much as possible in a short time.
I have some time before I leave for Indonesia and would like to visit Tokyo from Taiwan. But I would only have about 3 days. Can anyone make any suggestions as to budget airfare from Taipei, and central/budget accomodations in Tokyo, so I can squeeze in as much of the city as I can in this very short time? What sites would you suggest? Thank you for any suggestions and advice!

Tokyo Japan Air Pass
Posted: Wed June 18, 2008 11:22 AM UTC
Hi! We'll be in Tokyo 1st week of July, then travel to Okinawa on our 4th day. I've read in japan-guide website that there's a Japan air pass for Foreign tourists who wish to travel via domestic flights and this offers huge discounted fares. However, this can only be purchased prior to entering japan in conjunction with our international flights and there are certain airlines that provide this. Where and how can we purchase this if our international airline is Northwest airline?

Tokyo 2 days in Tokyo
Posted: Tue June 17, 2008 02:01 PM UTC
Will have 2 days in Tokyo with & 17-year-old girl in tow. It's about 10 years since I was last there; maybe more!!! I had vaguely thought about going to Harajuku (though it won't be over a weekend), Akihabara, Kappabashi, Tsukiji fish market, Roppongi for a quick look...in no particular order.
So, if anyone has any suggestions on ANYTHING, be it a restaurant or an area or a particular sight, I'd apprecaite it! My niece is open minded & mature, so it doesn't have to be shopping 'n' make-up. Restuarant-wise I thought izakaya style to try a bit of everything if anyone has an idea. We stay in Daiba, I think, but travelling around isn't a problem. I speak bad Japanese: enough to survive.

Tokyo Staying near Shinjuku Shopping District
Posted: Sun June 15, 2008 01:36 PM UTC
Hi everyone, this is my 1st time posting a qns here :) Nd some experienced advise frm u folks :) Will be travelling to Tokyo with a friend in August.

Is there any shopping areas near Sunroute Plaza Hotel, Shinjuku? Is seems pretty far away frm the happening areas of Shinjuku when i look at the map, although its a couple of minutes away frm the train station. :(

Is there any other hotels you will recommend near Shinjuku train station? Conditions of the hotel and cost comparable to Sunroute Plaza?

How much would it cost taking a taxi from Somerset Roppongi to Shinjuku?. :P

Thanks for your advise in advance :)

Tokyo Planning to visit Tokyo
Posted: Fri June 13, 2008 12:51 AM UTC
Hello all,
hope you all can help answering some of my questions. I'm from California USA. I'm planning a trip to Tokyo in January 2009 for 3-4 days. And here are my questions:

1) How expensive is it over there? Restaurant food?
2) How far is the airport (NRT) from Tokyo downtown?
3) Do taxi drivers at the airport speak english? Also, are they expensive?
4) I would love to stay in a ryokan, is there one near Tokyo? If you know, can you give me the website link?

for now, thank you =)

Tokyo 8 hours in tokyo
Posted: Sun June 8, 2008 04:00 AM UTC
Hiya
My daughter has a 8 hour stopover in Tokyo on her way to New York in February next year.
The travel agent tells me she can leave the airport to sight see.
Can anyone recommend what to do for this amount of time?
Can she store luggage coz we are not sure if she can check it all the way thru to NY?

Thanks
