Tokyo Tokyo Summer Events 2009
Posted: Sat July 4, 2009 03:11 AM UTC
As it is so difficult for people, who can't read Japanese to find the best summer events here in Tokyo ( Festivals, Fireworks, etc. ), I thought, it might be a nice idea and helpful to collect the most interesting and popular Events and made a small movie from that: www.japan-i.jp/video

Hope, everybody enjoys watching it and will come here some day. Japan is hot in summer !!!

Posted: Thu July 2, 2009 08:17 AM UTC
Hi there,
I heard on the grapevine that there is a 'Pocky' museum in Osaka.
Having trawled the internet I can find nothing, does anyone know anything about the existence of such a place?
Thanks in advance,

Tokyo Tokyo to Takayama/Kanazawa
Posted: Tue June 30, 2009 05:57 AM UTC
I will be in Tokyo from July 11-31, 2009. I have a 4 day weekend from July 18-21. I was considering an excursion to the Takayama/Omigachi/Kanazawa area. However, it appears that transportation is difficult and expensive. Do you think it is possible to travel to this area in a 4 day weekend or would it be too rushed? Is it worth the expense and trouble? Is there anyone out there who might be interested in sharing a trip like this? It is always more fun with company.

Hello!
About Kayak, the one-day excursions include transportation?
I'm thinking of arriving on Friday afternoon and book for Saturday (July 4th), but don't know if time is enough.
Cheers,

Japan Schlepping Two Big Suitcases on Metro - Stupid?
Posted: Mon June 29, 2009 06:47 PM UTC
Is it stupid for one person to be schlepping two HUGE suitcases plus a carry-on on the train (JR East) from Narita to Tokyo? Do trains open and shut their doors in like 5 seconds flat in Japan? If that's the case, do you think I should store my suitcases at the airport? (I'm stopping by Tokyo for a few days before going on to another destination.)

Thanks in advance.

Kyoto Looking for Quaint Kyoto Experience Ryokan in in July!
Posted: Thu June 25, 2009 06:47 AM UTC
Hello
My partner and I are going to Kyoto from July 5-7th. I really want to stay in a traditional ryokan, we are looking to pay around $10,000-$15,000 yen per night.
Does anyone know of an authentic ryokan to stay at for that rate? I'm so excited to go to Kyoto and I really want a guesthouse experience outside of a generic hotel!
Thank you so much!

Tokyo Transportation from Narita - Kameido - Tokyo
Posted: Thu June 25, 2009 03:14 AM UTC
This is my first trip to Japan. I got a place to stay in Kameido. Since I will have only few days, I plan to visit places only in Tokyo.

I have couple questions about transportation:

1. How will I take train from Narita airport to Kameido if I plan to buy a Suica + N'EX ticket? If you could give me details which stations I should take, transit and exit, it would be appreciated.

2. Do I need to buy a train ticket for the trip back to Narita? It seems like N'EX ticket covers only one-way trip? And how much is it?

3. For trips between Kameido and Tokyo, Is JR East train the best option (quickest and cheapest)? How much is the fare in general? I assume I can use Suica for it.

Thanks in advance.

Tokyo Transportation from NRT and transportation from Tokyo to Kyoto.
Posted: Sun June 21, 2009 08:43 AM UTC
Hi, I'm going to Japan only from the 2nd-7th of July. I will be there mid-day Friday until afternoon of Tuesday. I am hoping 2 days in Kyoto and 1 1/2 day in Tokyo. How far is Tokyo from Kyoto and what is the most economical (price and time) way to get from city to city?

Also, what would be easier?
1. I fly into NRT, go directly to Kyoto, enjoy two days there, then go to Tokyo and fly out from there 1 1/2 day later.

or

2. Fly into NRT, go to the hotel in Tokyo, enjoy the city for 1 1/2 days, then go to Kyoto for 2 days and on the 7th, wake up really early and then take the bullet to tokyo and then to NRT?

I know...short trip.

Thanks!

Tokyo First Time Travelers - Toyko 2010
Posted: Thu June 11, 2009 06:12 AM UTC
Situation: My buddy and I will be 22 by the time we go next year. We're Americans from USA, Southern California.
We want to stay a month, we were looking for 2 bedroom hotels/apartments however, I am unable to locate anything in Tokyo that is even close to a reasonable price.

We're looking to have fun there. (sights, travel, culture, partying, etc) We want to make this as fun as possible, we're the out going type of people, we would like to be around all the night life as much as possible.

Can anyone can offer guidance on airfare and a place to stay so we have an idea of what to expect??

Then staying for a month, how much extra would one need for food, travel, gadgets, night-life, etc?

I was assuming both airfare and board, $2500 USD from each person, then $2000 for spending...However, 2.5 for a month sounds very expensive for staying at a hotel.

Japan Sumidagawa Hanabi
Posted: Thu June 4, 2009 04:06 PM UTC
Hello

We sall be lucky enough to be in Tokyo on July 25th, for the Sumidagawa fireworks festival !

- Where is the best spot to see the fireworks?

- How long beforehand do we have to be there?

- Is it possible to "reserve" a spot by leaving a blanket or a towel on the ground, and come back 1 hour and 1/2 before the beginning?
I did this in Kobe for the big firework, and it worked ; but I am not sure it works in Tokyo, for such a big event.

If you see something else, please let me know !

Best regards from Paris

Tokyo Travel from Tokyo to China
Posted: Mon June 1, 2009 12:38 AM UTC
Hi does anyone know of a cheap way to travel from Tokyo (besides plane unless there are special rates IN TOKYO) to China. I would like to make my way there after a couple of weeks in Tokyo. I read there are ferrys but they still seemed expensive and 51 hours of travel (although I love the adventure and I have the time. I would like to make my way to Honk Kong the cheapest least expensive way I could. I am traveling in July and I am flexible with times. Any familys to stay with or people I could pay for guide travel(inexpensively).

Tokyo JR Train in Tokyo
Posted: Mon June 1, 2009 12:26 AM UTC
I was wondering if there was ONE fair for traveling around Japan (like a Europass)and if it covers night trains (sleepover) or is the night train more money. I am lookin for 2 weeks in the beggining of July. I land in Tokyo. I read the JR train site but I did not completely understand the restrictions or get an amount if there is such a ticket. I am looking for budget (unless I get sleep overs on the night train) and yes I know you will have to upgrade to get sleep overs (but how much).

Japan Help for itinerary and accomodation
Posted: Sun May 31, 2009 01:43 AM UTC
Hi VT friends,

I would like to visit Japan with my wife end of July for a week to 10 days. As always, I prefer to customize our own travel plan rather than getting a package tour. Our arrival point will be Tokyo and we would like to visit Kyoto too. What itinerary would you suggest for us? The other question is accomodation. If we have a budget of 60 Euro per day for a budget hotel, is it possible to find some good options in Tokyo? Please share your tips with me. Thanks in advance.

Tokyo Traveling in Tokyo and Hong Kong
Posted: Thu May 28, 2009 11:22 PM UTC
Hi I was told to purchase a flight to Hong Kong when I get to Tokyo. I was told it was much cheaper. Is there an Asian website listing cheap flights from Tokyo to Hong Kong. Also is there a "budget" hotel or place to stay that anyone knows of. I realize that there are hotels under 100.00. I was looking for a place to stay for either a month or a couple of weeks. Again "budget" is what I am interested in (anything just outside of japan).
