Hi again, cant wait till Nov, Flight and Hotel booked, arriving sometime this week-end, fiancee and Family picking me up at Airport.
My question is, i'm bringing gifts over, some clothes and toy for future son, maybe I-pod for fiancee. Do I declare these items, and is there duty to be paid on them. Also info on 9 Waves pool, someone said it was close to St Lukes Hospital, but i cant find it on map.

Stopover in Manila Posted: Sat August 29, 2009 04:49 PM UTC
Hi Vts,
I am going to have 2.5 days stopover in manila city.
This is my 1st time in manila and Phillipines
Going Stopover
reach manila at 5am on 16th September
and leaving to osaka at 2pm on 17th september. (1.5 days)
Back stopover
reach manila 10pm on 24 september
leaving manila 8pm 25 september (1 day)
At first I am planning on going to tagaytay on my 1st stopover.
But it looks like time is not allowed.
End up i have 2,5 days in manila.
Any recommendation that places i can visit and thing that i can do to fill this 2,5 days in Manila? or is there any others place i can visit besides manila?
Btw, please kindly recommend some good budget hostel for my stay during my stopover. Budget is around PHP1300 per nite (twin bed room).
On the other hand, please kindly advice if there is any local night market in manila that is safe to visit. We would like to see the local people life and taste the local food like balut, dinugen, bulabo etc... And please do recommend place for me to buy souvenirs as well..... I also have plan to go buy jeans in Mall of Asia as i was told Levis jean in Manila is very worth to buy.
Hope to hear from Vts soon.
Salamat.....

Rosewood Posted: Mon August 24, 2009 10:53 AM UTC
I'm going to Manila on vacation with my family next september. I 've been living there so I know the place quite well, but I was thinking of staying in Rosewood, near Market Market. I know it s pretty remote from Makati but I need a quiet place. Does anyone knows more about Rosewood? Would you recommend it?

First time in Manila Posted: Mon July 20, 2009 04:31 AM UTC
Going to Manila for 1st time in Nov, for about 3 weeks. Been chatting with woman for 6 months now and would like to visit her and her Family. Coming from Scotland via Amsterdam so flights not a problem, but would like to find good hotel near the Sampaloc District. Have been told there is good one near St Lukes Hospital. So i would appreciate any information possible to help me on my 1st visit to Manila and any customs on the philippines. I know i don't need Visa as my stay is for 21 days and I already got vaccinations for trip.

Monday night in Manila Posted: Mon July 6, 2009 02:30 PM UTC
Hey all,
What's the nightlife like in Manila on weekdays? Will the bars and clubs still be buzzing on a Monday night?
My impression is that Manila is pretty happening 24-7 - would that be a fair assumption?
I'm arriving with some friends Monday evening and we have one night to spend in Manila and would really like to have a good night out before we retire to the peace and quiet of Palawan. Can anyone recommend a nice place to have a good Filipino dinner and some places to go out afterwards? We're probably staying in the Malate area - would this be the best choice for a one night stay?
Thanks for your help - can't wait to get over there!

Manila or Quezon City? Posted: Sun June 14, 2009 11:33 PM UTC
Will be in the Philippines a week in August. Can't decide whether to stay in Malate (Manila) or Quezon City. Questions:
1) How far apart are these 2 locations?
2) Is it convenient to commute between the two areas?

metro travel Posted: Sat May 30, 2009 12:45 PM UTC
hi
is it possible to reach the main shopping, dining and sightseeing spots of manila via the metro ( train ) although i believe there are different operators and travel inter operator is not seamless.
do they have any day or week passes and are any concessional passess available to senior citisens. if such a pass is not available what is the best way to travel on the metro without too much time being spent on the purchasing individual joourney tickets.

Pregnant Travel in Philippines Posted: Tue May 19, 2009 08:43 PM UTC
Well things have changed since my last post on here. I am now having to deal with an additional traveler (though not arrived yet). Instead of driving the Northern Luzone loop we are now discussing plans to fly from Tuguegarao back to Manila. I have searched and found that PAL will allow a women to fly up to 35 weeks with a doctors release. I need to know if anyone has any information on Cebu Air. I have been to their website but can not find any information. My wife will be 29 weeks pregnant when we get there and 33 weeks when we plan to leave to come back to work.
Also if anyone can advise me on the price and schedules of buses to Ballesteros from Manila. We will be arriving in Manila at 0855. If up to it we would like to depart the next night heading north. Also the price of a bus from Ballesterous back to Tuguegarao.
Other possibility would be an A/C van rental with driver to get us to Ballesterous. Prices anyone??

Outrageous immigration fees for non-citizens Posted: Sat May 16, 2009 03:13 AM UTC
Is there a place you can find the exact fees of immigration services of Philippines? It seems like the officer has his/her own way of determining how much an applicant pays. Even those with permanent residency have to pay outrageous "exit visa" fees when leaving country; I know a person who had three emergency trips within a week and had to cough up almost US$200.

Astoria Plaza Residential Suites - Ortigas Posted: Sat May 9, 2009 03:58 PM UTC
Would you help me decide if Astoria Plaza Suites is fit for 5 adults to stay. Will book 2 units or One 2-bedroom unit if possible. If 2 units, one will be occupied by one person and the other unit by 4. It is only a 1-Night stay before heading to Baguio City.
I am also considering Holiday Inn as this is also a 4-star hotel like Astoria. Also considering EDSA Shangri la but seems too expensive.
Please help.

Pain Doctors in Philippines Posted: Tue May 5, 2009 01:31 AM UTC
Where do you find a pain Doctor in the Philippines or a doctor that can write a yellow scrip.I was told by Doctors that only 5% of doctors in the Philippines can wright them.I know St Lukes has a pain center and I've been there.I usually bring my medication with me but if I stay longer I need to take it and if I'm not in Manila the doctors don't even seem to know what it is that I take.Mercury Drug can look up what I take and some have it and some don't but says I have to get a yellow scrip for it.So I can't believe they make all the filipinos suffer with pain when there is medication for pain. Also why don't Dentist give shots before they drill there?I was getting a tooth filled and she started to drill and I asked what she was doing and then she said oh sorry I forgot you are american and gave me a shot.So are we just babys in the US and used to not feeling anything or do they just don't give pain meds to filipinos there. Thanks ken
