Need suggestions about settling in Phillipines Posted: Tue April 17, 2007 10:51 PM UTC
I am planning to settle in Phillipines later this summer; what are good cities to settle in Phillipines with nice weather and amenities? Would welcome suggestions about pros and cons of living in this country, rental (apartments) information (professional rental agencies etc in Manila and other major cities), general cost of living and standard of life, medical facilities etc. Is there Dish TV like service there for US tv Channels?

Need economical rooms for 10 nights Posted: Tue April 17, 2007 10:44 PM UTC
I need a double occupancy room in Manila in any area, not too far from airport, for ten nights starting on 11th May 2007. I am not too fussy about luxury, but it has to be a clean room with clean bathroom etc., and TV with US channels (CNN etc.). The one with internet access will be preferable but not very important.

How to rent condo/apartment in Manila? Posted: Tue April 10, 2007 07:02 AM UTC
Hi!
I'm self-employed (I self-publish my photo books) and plan to take long vacation in the Philippines. I'd like to stay there about a year.
Problem is: in order to rent a place, most brokers/agencies ask to pay by signing pre-dated checks and it seems very unlikely, not to say impossible, that I can open a checking account in a local bank as I won't even have alien resident card.
Does anyone know of a hassle-free way to rent a not too expensive (let's say 15/20,000PHP) condo or appartment in metro Manila, preferably Makati?
Thanks for helping me
Larry

11 hour layover Posted: Mon April 9, 2007 10:04 AM UTC
I have an 11 hour layover (1pm -12am)and I have a few questions
I'm arriving via phillipean airlines from vietnam and travelling to korea, via Korean airlines.
I arrive terminal 2 and depart terminal 1
1) do I need to pick up my luggage or are my bags checked all the way through?
2) how do I get to terminal 1 from terminal 2
3) is there a close hotel near terminal 1 or 2 for a day stay?
4) Is there anything I should worry about? I've heard many things about exthorsion, people stealing from luggage etc...
5) What are your general recommendations? I'm just looking to stay at the hotel then check back in for my flight at teminal 1 for 12am.
Please help my flight is tomorrow...

Makati Hotel Posted: Sat April 7, 2007 07:34 PM UTC
I'd like to know if it would be possible to get a decent hotel in the makati area for less than 5,000 pesos a night, and if so, is it possible to get a room at around 12 am. (my flight arrives at around 1130 pm). And if not in Makati, where is a place in that proximity that i could find?

Manila Tour Guide Posted: Sat April 7, 2007 05:02 PM UTC
I'll be in Manila this summer & would like to visit some of the sights (historical places, churches, etc.) to take photographs. While I'm sure I could find my way around by myself, I thought it might be easier if I could find a guide who knows their way around the city. If anyone knows of someone or has any suggestions for finding someone, I'd appreciate it.

Transport Aquino International Airport to Malate Posted: Thu March 29, 2007 07:33 PM UTC
On march 31st I shall arrive at Manila international airport on my first trip to the Philippines.
my questions:
Which is best means of transport ot Malate?
If it was Taxi, should I better go for expensive prepaid? How much would it be?
Or better try to get a metered taxi? If so, where to catch it? Outside the depature hall? How much should it cost?
There are many reports of rip offs, even of being robbed by taxi drivers. Is it really that bad? - I am an experienced traveller, even though this question might suggest otherwise.

Question about visiting Manila / Philippine Tourist Visa. Posted: Tue March 27, 2007 12:20 AM UTC
Suppose an American wants to visit the Philippines and stay for 2 months. But there's no Philippine consulate or embassy near in the state where he lives. So he's thinking of going to the Philippines on for a 21 day stay and then extend it when he is there. What will he need to do? Will he be required to show a roundtrip ticket at the airport? What are the requirements and procedures?

Going to subic bay - north of manila Posted: Wed March 21, 2007 01:13 PM UTC
HI,
I am coming to subic bay (about 2 hours north of manila as per the website) in april end and although the subic bay airport web site says there are air asia flights from kuala lumpur and dragon air flights from hongkong, I could not find any airlines that fly into subic bay. Does anyone know a way to get to the city directly or will I have to take a bus from manila.
Also ,once in the city, can I rent a motorcycle or a car on a canadian licence. The city traffic rules website would'nt open.

Makati to Clark Airport Transportation Posted: Fri March 16, 2007 08:34 AM UTC
Hi, I will be travelling to Manila in about 10 days and would be arriving/departing via Clark Airport (Angeles City).
Since I'm flying on Air Asia, they have coached that go to SM Megamall.
i) What's the fair price for taxis between SM Megamall to Renaissance New World Hotel in Makati? How long would the journey take? (I anticipate arrival at SM Megamall around 2pm on a Monday)
ii) Departure - My flight from Clark is at 11am. I have 2 choices, eitehr to catch the same coach from SM MEgamall (300 pesos), or perhaps taxi direct from the hotel to Clark. What would the taxi fare be and when should I leave the hotel? Or should I take a taxi to SM Megamall and catch the coach at 6am??
Appreciate any feedback.
