Need advice on venue for my Mother's 80th Bday Posted: Mon August 13, 2007 07:04 AM UTC
Hi folks. I'm planning to take my Mom with my family to visit Manila to celebrate her 80th Birthday. My sister who lives in Manila expects to invite a total of 35 people that's just my Mom's relatives. I would like to spend about 700 pesos per head. Can you guys suggest a restaurant or venue where I can have this party with a private function room so we can all chat and not feel rushed after dinner? I would like it to be a nice place but I'm not sure if the cost per head will allow this. Thanks for your advice.

Money Exchange in Manila Airport Posted: Tue August 7, 2007 07:05 PM UTC
I arrive in Manila at 0530AM, and was wondering if the money exchange places in the airport are open this early. Is the airport a good place to exchange dollars? I found in some countries the rate is a lot better outside the airport, but in others its the same. Please give me any advice you can about money exchange in the Phillipines. Thanks!!

I'm looking to stay in the heart of the city or at least where the action is. Are these 3 places suburbs? I'm looking at a few b&bs in manila, and noted that are few are located in ermita in quezon. are these suburbs? I've always believe that one must stay in the Mataki area because this is the heart of the city with easy transport and conveniences. Please help!

1. Manila (will be coming from Beijing).
2. Boracay (it seems to be the most popular travel destination.
3.???
4.???
5.???
I'll onlyhave about 13 days for travel. Someone mentioned a place called pawan coron or something like that. said its the best beaches, but i've always thought boracay was the best and most famous. Anyway, please recommend two or 3 more popular places...at least where tourist tend to travel. thanks

How do locals travel from the airport in Manila into the city (Mataki area)? Posted: Sun July 22, 2007 01:15 AM UTC
I'd prefer to travel the local way if possible.
I'm terrified of being ripped off or taken for a ride upon arrival. Also, because I'll be on a budget, I'm trying to find the most economical way to get into the city.
Is there an airport shuttle?
Are there public busses?
If all fails, I'll take a taxi, but how much does it cost? What is the exchange rate (pesos- USD)? How long does it take?

guest house $15 & below + philippines in 2 wks Posted: Sun July 22, 2007 12:57 AM UTC
I'm planning a two week trip to the philip. next month. I heard that unlike other asian countries, there are few/no accommodation for backpackers, at least where the rate is $5-$15 dollars(preferred but open to pay a little more). Can you recommend some places in heart of the city. Is Mataki a good area.
I plan on flying into Manila, but not quite sure how many days is needed there. I also plan on visiting Boracay. However, not sure where to go afterwards. Is there a popular tourist circuit? i.e. 4-5 places(cities) most people visit?
is $1000 (including hotels and domestic air travel) enough for two weeks?
thanks

Makati , Metro manila , Philippines Posted: Wed July 11, 2007 07:52 AM UTC
I am wondering if there is a place or restaurant in Makati, Manila that has games for kids. I am looking for a place where I can hold my daughter's birthday there in the Philippines; a place similar to Chuckee Cheese here in southern California.

Going on Sabatical Holiday In Manila Posted: Mon July 9, 2007 10:04 AM UTC
Our friends from Alaska (U.S. citizens) wishes to mail some documents to the U.S. Embassy in Manila, does anyone out there have the correct mailing address, they had mailed them last 2 months ago and fortunately, it was sent via registered Fed-X and it was returned yet it took nearly three weeks, so, they tried to call them and because of security purposes they (the clerk at the Manila U.S. Embassy...a native from there was very uncooperative...so if anyone out there has the correct mailing address of the U.S. Embassy in Manila and if post zip code is available that would be appreciated.
Thank You,

I hate flying. Please help! Posted: Wed June 20, 2007 02:58 AM UTC
I have been to Manila before on business, more than once actually. But all I saw each time was Makati and the Int. Airport. I may have had a business lunch or dinner at a big Pasay or Mandaloyong hotel, once or twice, with my business partners, but that's about it.
This time I like to spend about a week in the country: no business, just a simple, well-deserved one week holiday.
Now here is where your help is really needed.
I want to go to the beach for much of my vacation, but I suspect that all the decent beaches in beautiful and hospitable Philippines-I should stress- are only within a "flying" distance from Manila. The only problem hee is my own: I truly hate to fly if I could really afford it. Are there pleasant and "touristic" beach towns similar to Boracay, say, that are within a short "driving" or "boat" distance from Makati? I do not even mind staying at a Makati hotel at night and spending all day on a beach. Is any of this possible or do I have to suffer even more flying? Please help.

Manila *4 days 3 nights trip* Posted: Sun June 10, 2007 11:52 AM UTC
Hi, I will be heading over to Manila (arrival Clark) from 28 - 31 July 2007. There's gonna be 8 of us, so accomodation, transportation and ensuring everyone gets loads of fun is top of the list..!
could u please advise us on places of interest and things to do? Mostly around Manila/makati area.. or within 1-2 hours drive... We're pretty hyper young adults, so perhaps the museums & national parks wont be of key interest. Ive checked shopping, taal volcano, intramuros, night spots.. Boracay sounds beautiful, but time and $$$ wont allow..
would staying in makati for 3 days be ok? or would u suggest staying at different hotels for better experience? tho moving 8 ppl around is a bit of a hassle..

Shopping Malls in Manila Posted: Sun June 3, 2007 07:47 PM UTC
Hello all,
My sister recently moved to Manila with her husband and her son. She continously talks about all the shopping in Manila. Her son is gng to turn 1 in August and I wanted to send him something. I dont want to ship it from the US becuase it might cost me an arm and a leg. Does anyone know of any websites for the malls in manila where I could order from and have it shipped to her? Or if you have any other ideas.
Thanks a ton.

Advice on where to go? Posted: Tue May 29, 2007 03:57 PM UTC
I'm planning a trip for my friends and myself. Our plan is to fly to Hong Kong from the UK and then from Maccau to Manila using Tiger Airways. We do not have a date in mind, so if there's a good tme to travel because of weather, prices, availability etc then please tell me.
We would like a beach holiday, a place that has bars near the beach. None of us have ever been before so I would appreciate any advice. We're not lads, most of us are late 30's and just want to unwind and relax with a beer in the sun. so I'm looking for advice on where to fly to from Manila. What islands are best and what airlines serve these islands. If anyone can suggest accomodation as well, hotel, beach hut etc.
Thanks
Dave

Clark Airport to Manilla Airport Posted: Mon May 28, 2007 01:53 AM UTC
Hi.
I've Just discovered I am a monumental idiot as I have booked a flight with Air Asia (BASTARDS!!!) from KL to Clark with a connecting flight from Manilla to Kalibo (to do the usual tourist thing at Boracay). I have 4 hours in which to travel the 2 hour distance between these airports. This wouldn't be so bad except that I am coming with 10 other girls for my hens week. Now these girls will be none too pleased when I finally tell them that Air Asia tricked me into buying tickets to a army airbase 2 hours from our connecting flights, but this injury would be hugely compounded if they discovered that I do not have a plan in place for travelling this distance.
Are there buses, taxis, or those pick up truck things with the mad paint jobs waiting at Clark or will it be deserted?
How much might a bus ticket cost per person?
What should the real travelling time be?
How much might it cost per taxi to Manilla airport (if available)?
How much should it cost to take a pick up thing to Manilla Airport, would it be insanely uncomfortable, and would all 11 of us fit?
PLEASE HELP ME! There is not much more scarey than a large group of rabid girls coming to get me!!

Extention of Phillipines residency visa Posted: Thu May 24, 2007 05:37 PM UTC
US passport holders are give only 21 days visa upon entering the country but extentions, I am told, are very expensive, upto US $50 per month; can anybody please enlighten me on this with proper information, because I am planning to stay in Phillipines for long periods of time. (I am retired and do not intend to work or have business there, just enjoy my retirement).
