Early Stages Posted: Thu November 5, 2009 01:36 AM UTC
Hello all--
I am in the very early stages of planning an around the world trip. I would love to make a stop in both Greenland and Iceland if possible but I don't know much about where to fly from/which cities to visit etc. From my understanding it is possible to fly to Iceland from Canada but not Greenland? I'm just wondering if anyone has insights on the cheapest way to get to these countries? Thanks!

Greenland information Posted: Tue May 26, 2009 09:49 PM UTC
Hi there,
I'm off to Greenland (Kulusuk) in 2 weeks and I have a few questions:
--Can I use Euros, or do I definitely have to change to Danish kroner?
--What type of clothes should I take with me? Will it be extremely cold, or more like north Europe in the winter?
Thanks,
Chris

advice Posted: Mon April 13, 2009 11:01 AM UTC
hi all,
I like to have a visit to Greenland in the near future. I started looking around, what's the best way to experience this beautiful part of the eart. What are must do's? The country is so big, so you have to make discissions about an active walking or a more sightseeing trip. Or am I wrong?
What is the most beautiful part of Greenland, and maybe more important, where do you really get the Greenland experience (for a reasonable price, because it will be expensive anyway)?. I know it's subjective, but I am grateful to any advice. Iam not interested in high comfort trips, but I guess there won't be a lot.
many thanks,
Eric Brok (Netherlands)

Boat transfer Kangerlussuag Posted: Fri January 16, 2009 08:53 AM UTC
Hi all,
I am searching a boat transfer this summer from Kangerlussuag 60km down the Söndre Strömfjord.
Do you know any companies/private persons who provide that? I already tried Kangerlussuag Tourism but they say they can't help me.
Thanks and best regards,
Carsten

Internet cafes in Kangerlussuaq? Posted: Tue April 10, 2007 04:37 PM UTC
Heya!
I guess most people in Greenland have broadband at home nowadays, but does that mean that there are no internet cafes in Kangerlussuaq? And how about WiFi? Would the Old Camp hostel have wifi/internet?
Thanks,
Malin

Where exactly have you seen this car? hmmm... are they common in Iceland? I'm curios because this is an old IMS, the first 4WD to be built in Romania, during the´communist era. :)

Expats in Greenland or Greenlandics in exile Posted: Fri November 24, 2006 10:38 AM UTC
This country has fascinated me since childhood on. As you all know I'm hoping to move to Scandinavia some day soon, but Greenland is a nordic place quite impossible to move to, though I hope then to still travel around in the country intensively. It does seem a bit of an edge of the world thing, with very little options to get to and little connections to Europe.
Is there anyone here who's been to Greenland? Does anyone know where to get in touch with expats in Greenland or with Greenlandics in Europe, just to chat with and exchange information?

Travelling to Nuuk for jobhunting holiday Posted: Tue September 12, 2006 10:27 PM UTC
I am hoping to realise my lifelong arctic dream and to find a job in one of the Nordic countries very soon. I am already scheduling a trip to North Norway in October for some jobhunting (as most nordic countries prefer real applications rather than internet-based applications) but I've also not given up on Greenland yet entirely.
I was thinking of maybe going over to Greenland as well one of the coming months, and to go jobhunting in Nuuk. Obviously I'd aim for hotels or tourism industry jobs, as I don't speak the local language and would probably not find a job in office environments easily (although that would be even better).
I searched for some good travel deals, but all flights from UK to Greenland seem to go over Copenhagen and are extremely expensive. From Reykjavik I couldn't find any suitable flights directly to Nuuk.
Is there any cost-effective way to fly to Greenland from the UK?
Jobhunting advice would be greatly welcome of course as well :)

Advice for a motorcyclist on a trip, please? Posted: Fri July 7, 2006 05:31 AM UTC
I'm an American who will be traveling on a motorcycle in September. I'm starting on the west coast of the U.S. and am wondering if it's possible to hitch a ride for my bike and myself on a ship of some kind from eastern Canada, perhaps Newfoundland, over to Greenland. Once there, my fantasy is to explore, then to go on to Iceland and then to Norway.
When I say "hitch a ride," I don't mean that I expect a free ride (though wouldn't that be nice). What I don't know (actually I find there's a lot I don't know) is if such travel is even possible. And, assuming this to be possible, is September too late in the year to be on a motorcycle that far north?
Many thanks for any information and/or advice.
Mike
