We will be visiting Qaqortoq on Sept.12th on theGrand Princess Cruise ship.
We will unfortunately only be there for 5 hours from 8 AM to 1 PM.

We would like very much like to do some fishing if it is at all possible.

Please advise if this could be achieved ?

Posted: Tue June 19, 2007 07:27 AM UTC
Has anyone travel with this ship before?

I would appreciate any comments on this ship. I'm planning a trip to greenland in August this year and will fly into Nuuk. How is the comfort of this ship and are there any facilities on board?

Greenland Internet cafes in Kangerlussuaq?
Posted: Tue April 10, 2007 03:37 PM UTC
Heya!
I guess most people in Greenland have broadband at home nowadays, but does that mean that there are no internet cafes in Kangerlussuaq? And how about WiFi? Would the Old Camp hostel have wifi/internet?
Thanks,
Malin

Where exactly have you seen this car? hmmm... are they common in Iceland? I'm curios because this is an old IMS, the first 4WD to be built in Romania, during the´communist era. :)

Hello

I'll do this trek this summer. Is it ok to do it alone ?

If somebody wants to do it with me, why not. Give your e-mail. I think of arriving at Kangerlussuaq on July 31.

Greenland Expats in Greenland or Greenlandics in exile
Posted: Fri November 24, 2006 09:38 AM UTC
This country has fascinated me since childhood on. As you all know I'm hoping to move to Scandinavia some day soon, but Greenland is a nordic place quite impossible to move to, though I hope then to still travel around in the country intensively. It does seem a bit of an edge of the world thing, with very little options to get to and little connections to Europe.

Is there anyone here who's been to Greenland? Does anyone know where to get in touch with expats in Greenland or with Greenlandics in Europe, just to chat with and exchange information?

Nuuk Travelling to Nuuk for jobhunting holiday
Posted: Tue September 12, 2006 09:27 PM UTC
I am hoping to realise my lifelong arctic dream and to find a job in one of the Nordic countries very soon. I am already scheduling a trip to North Norway in October for some jobhunting (as most nordic countries prefer real applications rather than internet-based applications) but I've also not given up on Greenland yet entirely.

I was thinking of maybe going over to Greenland as well one of the coming months, and to go jobhunting in Nuuk. Obviously I'd aim for hotels or tourism industry jobs, as I don't speak the local language and would probably not find a job in office environments easily (although that would be even better).

I searched for some good travel deals, but all flights from UK to Greenland seem to go over Copenhagen and are extremely expensive. From Reykjavik I couldn't find any suitable flights directly to Nuuk.
Is there any cost-effective way to fly to Greenland from the UK?

Jobhunting advice would be greatly welcome of course as well :)

Greenland Advice for a motorcyclist on a trip, please?
Posted: Fri July 7, 2006 04:31 AM UTC
I'm an American who will be traveling on a motorcycle in September. I'm starting on the west coast of the U.S. and am wondering if it's possible to hitch a ride for my bike and myself on a ship of some kind from eastern Canada, perhaps Newfoundland, over to Greenland. Once there, my fantasy is to explore, then to go on to Iceland and then to Norway.

When I say "hitch a ride," I don't mean that I expect a free ride (though wouldn't that be nice). What I don't know (actually I find there's a lot I don't know) is if such travel is even possible. And, assuming this to be possible, is September too late in the year to be on a motorcycle that far north?

Many thanks for any information and/or advice.

Greenland Boats from Canada

I was wondering if anybody knew of any boats that leave Canada to Greenland that I could get passage on. I'm not looking for one of those luxury expedition ships that cost thousands of dollars either. Thanks.

Greenland Finding a job in Greenland
Posted: Mon November 21, 2005 07:21 PM UTC
As my search for a new challenge abroad continues, I am considering several countries and try to gain as much info as possible on the employment chances in each of them. I will see which one it will eventually become.

My big dream is to go living and working above the polar circle. Greenland or North Norway preferably (and the latter includes Svalbard).

Does anyone know a bit on the economic situation in Grønland? I would mainly like to know what type of jobs are available to foreigners, if there is any specific recruitment organisation/agency/website that helps foreign people in finding a job in the area. Very handy would be a sort of overview of job for which no knowledge of the local language is required...

I have so far worked in callcentres and administration. I speak 4 languages (Dutch, English, French and German - I would of course enrole in a Danish/Greenlandic language course immediately upon arrival) and am quite computer literate. I am also good in writing reports, people always say I have good writing skills.

I have already written to a few services in Greenland, but they usually don't reply or reply the standard "check this and this site and good luck", which is disencouraging in some way, but luckily I can be quite determined!

Greenland Question
Posted: Sun November 20, 2005 09:12 AM UTC
Does anyone know if there is ANY possible way to get from Newfoundland or Labrador over to Greenland?? I've scoured the net for possible airlines that might fly the route but haven't had any luck. It seems rather outrageous to have to fly all the way to Keflavik to do it.

Greenland Visit
Posted: Tue November 1, 2005 12:03 PM UTC
Hi

I am interested in visiting in both summer and winter but not sure where to go for both seasons. I would also like to visit east and west but again will probably be 2 trips. Is west best in winter or summer? Any opinins welcome.

I would like to visit Ilulissat but wondered if the glacier/icefiord wont be as spectacular in the winter as in the summer. Does the glacier still calve in the winter?

Many thanks

Greenland Trip to Greenland june 2006
Posted: Mon October 10, 2005 02:27 PM UTC
Hi, My name is Barak, I'm 26 years old from Tel-Aviv and I'm planning a trip to Greenland for june 2006. Hopefully consisting of treks and tours around the Kangerlussaq and Ilulissat areas.

Is anyone interested in such a trip around that time of the year? Maybe we can exchange ideas and link up. Treking is much more fun when you have someone to share with the wonders along the way.

Greenland Illulisat - ATM's ?
Posted: Wed April 7, 2004 04:42 PM UTC
This is probably a dumb question, but since I don't know the answer, I'll have to ask it.

Does anyone know whether there are ATM's (bank machines) in Illulisat or Kangerlussuaq ? If not, are American Express travellers cheques readily accepted ?
