I would like suggestions for tours, (waterpark info), or any information that you think would be helpful to me to get the most out of Cancun. I use a travel scooter that breaks down and can be put on shuttles or taxis and I can walk short distances or my husband can carry me up a few steps. I can swim.
Also most helpful would be things that I CANNOT do or places that I should avoid.
My wife and I will be staying in a resort not far from Playa Del Carmen. We want to take a taxi to 5th Avenue, walk around and have some Mexican food. I have been to Playa before (I love this town). Obviously, there are lots of restaurants along 5th Avenue, but wanted to get people's recommendations on the good one since some of these restaurants are the typical tourist traps (bad food, high prices).
Hi,
Has anyone any experience driving in the Merida/Cancun area using a TomTom for navigation. Understand the TomTom maps are somewhat sketchy in some parts of Mexico. Can anyone also recommend a reliable map of the area and where to obtain.
Any other tips re driving would be greatly appreciated. We are considering renting a car from "Cancun Car rental".
Can someone please give me some advice how to choose a place for snorkeling around Playa del Carmen, Mexico? We do not have guys with us this time so we want to be somewhere safe. We are not sissies but we do not want to get ripped off just because we are blond. How much is it supposed to cost? Also what is the best way to see the Chichen Itza ruins? We do not want to rent a car. I have been to Tulum before and it was awesome so we are going back.
Age limits? Posted: Mon October 12, 2009 02:57 AM UTC
Is Coco Bongo a nightclub for adults only? I saw there are several shows. I am going to be coming to Canun in December with my children, ages 15 and 12. Would this be an appropriate place to visit with them? Thank you.
Hi, im sure this a highly irregular question to ask but please bear with me..
A large party are about to descend on Cancun to attend a wedding there, and i have been reluctantly put in charge of organising the inevitable stag do.
The Groom is adamant that it be as wacky and 'far out' as possible, and i have heard of a mexican wrestling league in which the protaganists are 'little people' (trying to make this as politically correct as i can)!
I have also heard that said league is popular among the locals and highly entertaining..In short (pardon), I could'nt think of a better way to spend an alcohol induced evening!!
Any info would be really appreciated, or indeed any other suggestions you may have on how to entertain 25 inebriated Welshmen!! Cheers..
Can anyone give me a lead on a local vendor (name and phone/email contact info)with whom bride and groom may contract for a wedding tent or canopy? Wedding is May 22, The Royal Playa del Carmen. Hotel does not have/supply tent or canopy. Wedding is for 100+/- guests. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me!
Mary
I'm going to be in the Tulum area for several weeks, and I'd like an opinion on transport options. Rather than renting a car for the whole period, is it realistic to get around by taxi or collectivo? I speak reasonable Spanish.
There is a possibility I might be able to borrow a car privately, but I have no idea what the insurance situation might be. Any advice? My own car insurance will definitely not cover me.
Hi I have spent my last penny on getting to mexico to be at two very good friends wedding. So now I am completely broke in the middle of a recession with a ticket to Mexico and I need somewhere cheap to stay. In the past I have crashed with friends in their rooms, but everyone going are couples, so unless I meet someone who is willing to put me up for a few nights I'm stuck. (yeah - yeah I am the poor friend that spends his last dime and works 20 hrs a day).
Are there Cabanas or a hostel in walking distance to Barcelo Maya Beach resort?
Chichen Itza Posted: Mon September 21, 2009 02:18 PM UTC
My friends and I are going to Cancun in the beginning of December and are staying in Playa Mujeres and are interested in going to see Chichen Itza. We are trying to find the easiest, safest, most affordable way to get there and back.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you
HOLA SOY URUGUAYO Y VOY A CANCUN EN NOVIEMBRE, ALGUIEN PODRIA DECIRME O RECOMENDARME DONDE IR EN LA NOCHE A TOMAR UNAS CERVEZAS O TEQUILAS, DESDE YA MUCHAS GRACIAS Y ESPERO RESPUESTAS. SALUDOS JAVIER
I'm looking for a good, but not too expensive, day spa in Cozumel. Does anyone have any recommendations? I saw one named Spa Del Sol on 5th in Cozumel. It looked good. Does anyone know it? Thank you so much!
Could someone recommend a good day spa within a short ride from the cruise pier? We will be in town just for a day and I would like to have a great "spa day" without spending too much money (like on the ship). I found the Spa Del Sol in Cozumel online. It seems very reasonable. Is it a good place?
We are going to the Mayan Riviera next week, and sure enough, the weather forecast is showing scattered t-storms during our entire stay, fromk 30% chance to 60%. What should I expect? Are the rains typically happening at one time of day, throughout the day? Are we going to be completely miserable? ;-)
It has been many years, since we have been back to Cancun. In the late 90's and early 2000's we stayed at a hotel called the " Carribean Village". Wonderful in all aspects. We are trying to plan a trip in November 09, and would very much like to stay there again. I do understand that the hotel had changed names(Occidental Grand/Occidental Carribean Village) and perhaps went thru a renovation.
We have contacted our local travel agencies, and they cannot offer any info. as to if this particular property has even reopend. Any current ionformation, as to status and current hotel name would be greatly appreciated.
Rent a Phone? Posted: Sat August 15, 2009 03:30 PM UTC
Hi: does anyone know if can you rent a cell phone to use in Mexico at the Cancun airport or if this option is generally offered at the hotels? Thanks. Any other general thoughts on how easy it is to get a cellphone in Mexico to use while on vacation there will be appreciated. Thanks
We have traveled in Mexico and were able to purchase legal drugs such as antibiotics. Do they have pharmacia's in playa del carmen like they do in border town? Does anyone have experience with this? I am also interested in dental care in Playa del Carmen? Any information would be helpful. Thanks
Hello,
We are traveling to Cancun/Rivera Maya in November for our honeymoon and was wondering which private airport transfer company we should use? Thanks!
I visited Playa del Carmen years ago with a friend, but am now going with my family - husband and kids 7 and 3 years old (for about 12 nights). The children will of course want to spend a lot of the time in the pools/on the beach. My husband and I like quite nice resorts (4/5 stars) - where there are several pools and a choice of restaurants, good service. Hope to get some input on the following:
WEATHER: Will it be warm enough end Jan/beg Febr for the kids to be able to swim a lot without freezing? Dubai in the same time period in 2008 was NOT, so we promised them... Is the weather quite stable, I can take a day or two of not-so-good if the rest of the days are sunny and warm. I read about cold/chilly pools, do they not have heated pools?
BEACHES: We are considering the Ritz Carlton in Cancun, but heard that the beach in Cancun is in very bad condition/almost gone. True or has it been "rebuilt"? Are the beaches along Riviera Maya (for instance Playa del Carmen area) less damaged/better?
RESORTS: Any comments on the Ritz Carlton, we were planning on taking an Ocean View Suite? Or other suggestions in that price-range/level (the suite is about $ 700/night, $ 1050 for Club Level which includes some lighter meals? Not sure if we should go for an all inclusive instead. Having small children we tend to eat most meals on the resorts we stay at, going out only for the occasional meal or when going on excursions.
I'll be traveling to Cancun in January and would really like to visit some art galleries. We heard about the tourist shops in Playa, but would really like to check out some artwork.
We arrive in Cozumel in two weeks time- can't wait! How's the weather at the moment? I've looked at alot of weather websites but all they say is things like "heavy rain showers" and they don't say if this means throughout the day, or just usually one heavy shower and then clear. Does anyone know?Anyone there right now? Am starting to think my holiday will be a weather washout!!
We are planning a trip to Cancun the week before Christmas for 7 days and be back by Christmas Eve. We are thinking about staying either at the Grand Caribe Resort & Spa (Blvd 11.5KM), or Barcelo Tucancun Beach in Cancun. Maybe even Gran Porto Real at PDC. Any advise from all your experience travellers? Is there any special activities going on during that time of the year?
