We will be arriving in Progreso by Carnival on Oct24. Carnival does not seem to offer very many good shore excursion in progreso. The ones that are good are really expensive. Can anyone advise how much you can get the basically same shore excursions for if you wait and book when you get off the ship? Are these safe and reliable? We cant afford to miss getting back in time to get on the ship.

Are there any locals offering fishing? We will be arriving in Progresso on Oct 24 on Carnival, we will only be there for a short time. I was wondering if there are any fishing excursions to be found, one that they will possibly cook your catch, so you can enjoy it before its time to get back onboard.

Hi everyone,
It's been awhile since I posted on here, but I have a few questions! I'll fly into Cancun on June 29th and will leave on July 9th. I plan on renting a car from the airport, so I have a few questions: - Has anyone does this that can recommend it? - Would it be better to buy a map here or in Cancun? All the maps I see on Amazon are kind of old, and the newest one is from 2008. - I've rented a car in advance from Budget for a total of like $78. This does not include insurance. I plan on buying ALL the insurance I can. Can anyone give a rough estimate of how much they spent on car rental? - Any tips on driving? I've driven in LA and in NYC, so I figure Mexico can't be so bad, but I'm still nervous! Thanks in advance!! |

Since I am planning to live in Mexico for some time. How do I go about getting my prescription for Zoloft and Welbutrin refilled while I'm there? Is there Mexican health insurance that I would need or is the cost reasonable enough to just pay cash? Any info appreciated. Thank you!

HI - I have the opportunity for a cheap simple rental in Progreso for a month but I am wondering what there is to do, I am afraid of getting bored! has anyone spent time there? has it become really touristy, invaded by the cruise ships, or does an authentic feeling still persist? Thank you, Jean

We'll be staying for two nights in Izamal, then on to Merida, in January, and traveling by bus. I'm wondering whether it would make sense to plan on visiting Chichen Itza from Izamal, or leave it as a day trip from Merida? One option would be to go and return to Izamal, in which case I'd be happy taking combos or shared taxis or whatever. The other option would be to go to Chichen Itza early on the morning of our departure, with luggage, and then from Chichen Itza on to Merida.
Any suggestions/recommendations appreciated. Thanks. |

Why is it so much more expensive to fly into Merida as opposed to Cancun? The taxes seem to be the problem. Also, how safe is the Merida/Progreso area in the light of recent reports of violence?

I will be arriving in Cancun at 6 PM.
1. I would like to take the ADO 1st class bus from Cancun to Merida. Can I take the bus directly from the airport? If not, what is the best way to get to the bus station? 2. Is it safe for a single woman to take the 4 hour bus trip at night? 3. I'd prefer to take a private car, or taxi. Does anyone know of an inexspensive (less than $100 US) way that I could do this? Thanks in advance for your suggestions and help! |

I am planning a trip in January with several female friends. We plan to fly into Cancun and drive first to Valladolid and then up to El Cuyo. One of my friends was warned by a travel agent that the area is "very dangerous" "don't leave the Cancun area!" I have driven fairly extensively around the Yucatan as far south as Xcalak and have always felt safe, but I haven't been north and it has been about 18 months or so since I've been to Mexico at all. Have things changed? Do I need to change my travel plans? I am taking several women with me who are not very experienced Latin American/rustic travelers and I need to be confident when I answer their concerns. Thanks.

Hi in two weeks I go to Mexico. We are planning on travelling by bus from Merida to Chitzen Itza, then Chitzen to Tulum, and Tulum to Playa Del Carmen. I was advised to book bus tickets in advance on the Ticket Bus website but it doesn't work very well from outside Mexico - half the time it says there are no buses available, and then when you do find a bus, it throws you out of the website just after i try to enter payment information. So, my question is does anyone have any ideas on whether it's necessary to book buses in advance or can we just turn up and get on a bus? I don't want to be waiting around all day for an available bus as our time is short.
thanks Jane |

Does anyone know if the dotted "track" noted on maps of the Yucatan between Las Coloradas and El Cuyo denote some kind of road connecting the two? I have traveled about 12 miles on this sand track before heading back to Las Coloradas. Don't want to repeat the trip if the sand "road" degrades into a walking path

Is there a English speaking BUS TOUR of Merida and surrounding tourist places?
Also from Merida I want to go on BUS TOUR to Campeche, Uxmal, Progreso, Chichen Itza etc... Is there a bus tour I can take from my hotel in Merida to all these places and then back to my hotel @ night? (PS: I don't know what hotel I am staying yet). I have 1.5 (a day and half) to explore these places and then another 1.5 (day and half) to go explore Playa, Tulum and Chetumal. What is a inexpensive BUS Tour I can take? Thanks in advance. Bansi |
