We are planning to visit SMA in December. How can we reach this town from mexico City airport. How many days should we allow to see different areas of the town??Are there better hotels near the bus station?
Are most of the places in walking distance. If not how is the public transportation..
Any general information will be greatly appreciated.
hello - looking for ideas on places to stay while in guanajuato , nothing much more than 12 dollars or under a night, preferably with kitchen facilities and hot water and if its a dorm style thing -something with lockers. the look of it is not so important to me. any suggestions will be much appreciated .
Hello, i am interested in finding some possible hotels in Penjamo. We have a pretty large group (8 adults, 6 children) traveling there Dec.17 - 25. I've been looking, but can only find a couple. Are there any hotels in the center of town or near the center of town? thanks.
I'm planning a return trip to Guanajuato and am wondering if the situation has changed there? I was there last summer and it seemed pretty unthreatening but the news is giving me second thoughts about the whole country. Anybody have recent experience in Guanajuato?
Volunteering Posted: Wed February 25, 2009 03:38 PM UTC
I'm a student traveling to study in Guanajuato this summer. I'm planning to arrive a month early to do some volunteer work. I'm open to all different kinds of volunteering, but I am looking for somewhere safe near the Guanajuato area. Does anyone have any recommendations? Thanks!
We're going to be a party of 4 arriving in guanajuato in March and want a local guide for 4 to 6 hours. Recommendations and prices if known would be a great help
We need to plan a family reunion, and money is an issue. Im wondering what time of year is most affordable? Do we save by buying our tickets with months in advance? What about the weather? I have never been there so have no experience. :(
I just need to find the most affordable rates, we are a family of four so it adds up quickly.
Hi! I am planning a trip to San Miguel for next year, and want to stay for at least 4, but more likely 6 months. I am an artist and need a place to stay that is fairly cheap. I'm not picky. Any recommendations at all are much apprecitated!- Mary
I purchased a metal sculpture of an elephant from an artist named Luciano in a market in San Miguel de Allende in 1995. Can anyone tell me if he is still in that city or anything about him?
We are flying into Benito Juarez airport and want to know if you can get a bus to SMA from the terminal at that airport or do you have to take a cab to a different location? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Planning a trip to Guanajuato in the beginning of January. We have gotten ourselves as far as Leon. From there on, we are stuck... any advice on getting from Leon to Guanajuato and then from Guanajuato to Jerecuaro? Comfortable is not a requirement, just a wee bit of safety. :) Thanks
Hello VTers.
I'm headed to San Miguel for 3 nights in a few weeks with my boyfriend and his parents. We already have a place to stay, but are looking for things to do. I've never been, but I hear there's lots of shopping and good restaurants. I was hoping someone might know of an english cooking class? And cost?
Anything else we HAVE to see or do?
Thanks, as always!
Can anyone tell me what the distance and travel time is between Yuriria and the city of Guanajuato? We are trying to plan a trip down there, and want to figure out if visiting both places is possible. Thanks in advance
My wife and I will be in Guanajuato from Feb 23 to March 1 and were interested in seeing a performance of some kind at the Teatro Juarez. A play, a concert, anything really. I have googled it but I can't find any information or schedule. How can I get information on performances and maybe book tickets?
Also, we would like to go out dancing...salsa or whatever...we are fair dancers. While I firmly believe that 40 is the new 30, we wondered if there was place with live music and dancing that had a more adult clientele. Just some place that was not a college crowd.
My wife and I are planning a week long stay in Guanajuato in February. We mostly plan to relax and enjoy Guanajuato but she is very curious to see the monarch butterflies. How far is it from Guanajuato to the butterfly sanctuaries? Are there organized day trips? Is there a recommendation how to do this if we wanted to take a couple of days and make this trip?
Is there regular daily bus travel to San Miguel de Allende from Guanajuato?
We'll be spending a week in Guanajuato in mid-February, but are considering going to San Miguel on two of those days since that's where we originally wanted to go there for the week.
My sister and I would like to travel to SM June 2008 with our kids ages 11,10,9 and 5. Is there enough for kids to do in SM? Any ideas for good art and Spanish classes/camps for kids? Also, would like to rent a nice house, centrally located with pool and help?
I will be driving down to San Miguel de Allende in a couple months. I have been dismayed by the very limited list of articles a person entering with an FMT may bring with them into Mexico! I will be down there for 3-6 months and would like to bring a few pieces of electronic equipment, more than 5 CDs(!), etc. How can I get advanced approval for these items so I don't run into customs trouble at the border? Thanks!
I have booked a flight for a one week visit to Mexico in November. I've been to Oaxaxa several times before, and to the Yucatan. This time I thought I'd try Guanajuato, from things I read and photos I've seen, it looks like a nice place to relax, do a little exploring, and soak up some local culture.
I'm trying to decide if I should just base myself in Guanajuato for the week , and do day trips to a few other places, or to spend 1/2 the time in Gunajuato and 1/2 in San Miguel. I hear good things about San Miguel, but I'm afraid it might be too crowded with Americans, and I might not get as much of the local culture there. Any suggestions?
I am looking for a romantic studio/apt/hotel room in Guanajuato for two nights (Fri, Sat October 26 and 27).
Something near the center of town. A great view is a HUGE plus. If anyone has any suggestions or anything available, please let me know. Also, any suggestions for restuarants. Thanks!
We'll be visiting SMA around Thanksgiving. I know the best seems to be to fly into Leon or Queretaro and the drives are 1 1/2 and 1 hours respectively. I do want to avoid Mexico City but see some good fare to Guadalajara. Does anyone know how far that is and how long it would take from there to SMA?
I am looking for a rental or house sitting situation for the month of July, close to the Art Institute. I am coming to San Miguel to take some art classes. Would love a 1 br- let me know if you have any info!
I would appreciate any information or suggestions on transportation options or services from the airport in Mexico City to SMdeA and between SMdeA and Guadalajara. Thanks.
We - a couple who live in Todos Santos, BCS - plan to travel for the month of September on the mainland. We would like to spend a week in San Miguel and are looking for a small self-contained casita to rent. We do not need a huge kitchen - just enough space and necessities to prepare breakfast and lunch. We have a guest casita in Todos Santos and would consider a trade - the trade to be used at a time convenient to both parties. Our casita can be seen at www.casasofiabaja.com We are also willing to pay rent - maybe $650 a week? We will be traveling by bus and would like central accommodations. Please let us know if you have any suggestions.
This is probably a stupid question, but would there happen to be a public swimming pool in San Miguel de Allende ? I realize it´s a small place, but just in case....
