Hi
I am visiting Calgary, Banff and Jasper over the July 4 weekend. First 2 nights in Banff , then 2 nights in jasper and then on the way back last nite stay again in Banff. Can you please let me know which are the MUST SEE places in these 2 areas. IWe plan to see all the famous places/lakes but dont know if will need to hike to get to these places or are they accessible by car. will be coming with a 1 year old and husband and another couple. Can we manage with a stroller or should we get a child carrier instead? Also hows the weather like in July 4th weekendand should we carry clothes for extreme heat- shorts /t shirts etc and a light jacket.Any other tips about visitng that place with a 1 yr old.
Lastly if we have 1 afternoon available for Calgary whats the ebst thing to see in calgary or in the famous stampede.

A quick response will be highly appreciated as I only have few days to plan?

Province of Alberta 12 days: Starting in Edmonton ending in Calgary
Posted: Thu June 26, 2008 11:32 PM UTC
We are coming into Calgary in mid August for 12 days. Flying into Edmonton and out of Calgary. Does anyone have itinerary suggestions? We are 2 adults, a 15, 11 and 6 year old. We were hoping to do the major National Parks but there is so much to see and we don't know how much time we should spend in each. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Jasper National Park Five days from Vancouver to Vancouver!
Posted: Mon June 16, 2008 08:34 AM UTC
After stepping off an Alaska cruise 7-8am on 13th September we are undecided as to how to do and see the most through Banff, Jasper etc before heading back to Vancouver to fly home to Oz on the 18th. Have read through lots of advice to others but still SO undecided! Considered car hire but wonder how we would cope with being on the oppposite side of the road?? - (we are around the 60 yo range)
Doubt that we will get back to this area (So many places to visit) so the choicest if we can. Would consider all modes of transport!
Many thanks,
Shirley and Gary

Jasper National Park camping in Jasper National Park and Banff National Park
Posted: Thu June 12, 2008 06:58 PM UTC
I will be tent camping for a week. I am planning to book the weekend nights in Jasper - We are traveling July 25 through August 1. Friday night through Thursday night. I would like to find quiet, relaxing places to camp - showers are nice, but not necessary every night. Not really interested in being in Banff -the town.

I am thinking of starting on the outer campgrounds - Pocahontas - two nights (but I have read that a lot of people recommend Snaring River (but I don't think they take reservations and it will be a Friday and Saturday night, then near Jasper at Wapiti two nights - would like to stay one night, Tuesday, between Jasper and Lake Louise - no reservations accepted along there however - if I arrive early would I be able to get camping? which one is good?

also should I go to Lake Louise or Banff? A lot of people seem to thing Tunnel Mountain is nice. - what about Johnston Canyon?

Thanks - Michelle

Kananaskis Lakes Kananaskis or Jasper with kids - which one and what to do?
Posted: Wed June 11, 2008 06:28 PM UTC
Hi,
I will beflying in from Toronto to spend about 5 days with our young family - 2 kids aged 4 and 5 -- road trip between Calgary and Edmonton. We want a meaningful trip, not super rushed, family friendly but also since we might not be back in the area for a while, hit as many 'breathtaking' must-see spots as we can..also would be fun to 'do' some fun things with the kids and nature

Our tentative itinerary

Day 1 Calgary - stay w friends in Calgary
Day 2 Drumheller - drive back to Calgary
Day 3 Kananaskis - canoe with kids or rent raft? stay in Banff for the night
Day 4 Early morning Peyto Lake, Gondola ride, Lake Louise, Moraine Lake - Banff for the night
Day 5 Icefields Parkway - stop at Snocoach Athabaska glacier - Jasper for the night
Day 6 Drive to Edmonton - stay w friends
Day 7 Flight out of Edmonton in the early afternoon

Is this too rushed? Are we missing the big things, and focussing on others too much? What are the must sees in any of the spots we are planning to visit? I planned it this way so that we would spend time w friends unwinding at the start and end of the trip. However, now I'm wondering if I need more time in Kananaskis, Banff and Jasper and should cut out Drumheller?

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

Banff National Park Suggestions for Itinerary with 2 young kids Calgary - Banff - Jasper - Edmonton
Posted: Wed June 11, 2008 06:00 PM UTC
Hello,
I will be travelling with our family this summer (kids are 3 and 5) and would appreciate any suggestions on length of stay for Banff and Jasper. We're arriving in Calgary on a Thursday afternoon, and then have the next six days to travel and sightsee. I have to be in Edmonton on day seven so that is a hard stop. Any suggestions for itinerary? We're hoping to see as much as we can, not sure when we will get to go back again, so this might be a once in a lifetime trip. However because the kids are young, we would also like this to be somewhat relaxing. How many days in Banff and Jasper? Is Drumheller worth checking out? Should we skip Jasper and check out Kannaskis instead on the way up?

Jasper National Park best day hike in Jasper PArk?
Posted: Sun June 8, 2008 01:19 PM UTC
I will be visiting JAsper for 1 and a half days in July first week of 2008. Could anyone recommend an interesting day hike that has good views along the way too? I wanted to do parekrs ridge but found out that the hike itself is not very good, just the view at the end is. I would like to do a moderate hike that would take maybe 3-4 hours from start to finish. I know asking to pick one hike from hundreds of 'best' ones is daunting, but I would still appreciate what you guys think.

Banff National Park A side trip from Banff and Jasper?
Posted: Mon June 2, 2008 11:39 AM UTC
I am planning for a trip to the banff and jasper area in july 2008. I will be staying 2 nights near Banff and 2 nights near Jasper. I have one extra night I could spend somewhere.

1) Is it better to go see Yoho or Waterton Lakes or anywhere else for that extra day? Which is more beautiful?

2) Is there any other place where the scenery might a bit different than banff and jasper?

3) I enjoy hiking and photography, so the main idea of the trip and the side trip would be taking a lot of photos. Also I know there are going to bea lot of tourists at that time. Any place less touristy would be good too.

Thanks for any help you could provide me.

Province of Alberta Honeymoon in Alberta - March 2009
Posted: Sat May 31, 2008 12:28 PM UTC
G'day, I'm coming to Alberta in March 2009 for my honeymoon and am planning on skiing a number of resorts including Whistler & Banff/Lake Louise.

We are planning to spend 2 weeks skiing and 1 week roadtripping in between. What is there to see and do in March (early spring i guess?) We're planning on driving from Whistler to Banff. Would RV-ing it be recommended? What parks and trails are open?

Also does the Rocky Mountaineer operate in March? We were considering taking it back to Vancouver if it's operating.

Cheers!

Banff National Park Place to stay in Banff
Posted: Mon May 19, 2008 01:44 PM UTC
Hi!

In June 2009, my girlfriend and I will be staying in Banff for at least a week. Our problem is finding a place to stay. I know there are plenty of hotels, but I was wondering if it is possible to stay in private cottages that have been made available by local residents. These cottages/B&B are a lot cheaper then hotels. In Jasper there are a lot of these facilities which can be found at www.stayinjasper.com.

Does anybody know if there's a website where these kind of facilities can be found for the Banff region? Or do you know someone who rents his/her cabin/house/cottage?

Many thanks for your help!

Greetings,
Ralph

Jasper National Park Planning to visit Jasper in June 2009 from The Netherlands
Posted: Wed May 7, 2008 02:38 PM UTC
Hi everybody,

I have a question and I hope someone can help me with it.
Last year my girlfriend and I travelled through the Western side of Canada, including Jasper and Banff National Park. Now we want to visit Jasper again, we think about that place almost everyday.
We're planning to return in late May or June 2009. I'm just wondering what to do. We're flying over from Holland to Vancouver I think. Last time we took the bus to go to Jasper, but I'm thinking of hiring a car and drive to Jasper myself. But, I'm not familiar with big traffic ( I'm from Holland you see d:), and I don't know the route.

My questions are:

Can I rent a car and drive up to Jasper ( and probably Banff too) myself or take the bus?

Is June a better time to go then May? In terms of seeing wildlife like bears?

Can someone recommend me when to book the hotels for that period in 2009?

Any help is much appreciated, thanks for helping out!

Kind regards, Ralph and Lenny

Jasper National Park Jasper - Lake Louise - Banff Itinirary
Posted: Mon April 28, 2008 09:49 PM UTC
Going to the Canadian Rockies for my honeymoon in late July and deciding on the Itinarary. We have 6 nights, are staying at some Fairmont Properties, and will take the Rocky Mountaineer train in from Vancouver. Will rent a car in the mountains. Some Questions:
1. Is the train ride worthwhile?
2. Stay 2 nights in Jasper or 4 nights in Jasper?
3. Is it worth staying in Lake Louise?
4. How long travel time between Jasper - LLouise and Banff?
Thanks alot!!

Canmore B & B accomodation in Canmore
Posted: Sun April 20, 2008 08:44 PM UTC
Hi there
I have a bit of a dilemma here: I`m going to Banff National Park in September 2008. Everybody says that Canmore is preferrable to Banff acomodation-wise, as it is not as overrun with tourists as Banff is. When I did some research on VT and Tripadvisor on local B&B`s though, most reviews were very, very negative. I get the impression that all accomodation in Canmore is either a dump or overpriced.

Can anybody recommend a really friendly B&B in Canmore (or Banff or somewhere close to Banff NP) with honeymoon-style rooms, ca. 120-150 CDN $ per room/night ?

Thanks, Michael

Banff Banff - May long weekend
Posted: Thu April 17, 2008 05:35 PM UTC
Me and some friends are planning on visiting Banff over May long weekend. We were wondering if anybody has any travel tips. We're all young guys with our own vehicle and would love to do some camping and hiking, also river rafting if its available. Fishing would also be a bonus if its open anywhere...Will lake o'hara be frozen? would Moraine or bow be a better choice?
