Toronto Pearson Int'l Airport > Union Station?
Posted: Mon May 12, 2008 06:29 PM UTC
Hello, all. If this question has been asked before, I sincerely apologize.

I will be flying from Atlanta, Georgia, USA, to Toronto on Monday, June 23, with a final destination of Kingston, Ontario.

I will be arriving approximately 0830 at Toronto Pearson and would like to catch the 1130 train from Union Station, bound for Kingston.

I'd like to avoid taking a taxi because of cost, and I've heard the stories about how bad Toronto traffic can be that time of day. I tried finding information about subway/bus service between Pearson and Union, but frankly, I can't make heads or tails of it all.

If anyone can provide information about the best public transportation options between Pearson and Union, that would be greatly, greatly appreciated. Any tips about how to handle my luggage (one bag, one carry-on), fares, realistic travel time between the airport and the train station, smart traveler tips, etc., would also be appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

Niagara Falls Niagara Falls Safety/Crime after sunset - walking to Canada
Posted: Sun May 11, 2008 02:58 AM UTC
Hi,

My boyfriend and I are visiting Niagara falls soon and had a few questions. We are staying on the US side but we were planning on making a trip to the Canada side on foot. How long do you think it would take to cross the rainbow bridge on foot?

Also, we wanted to see the falls illuminated but were concerned with safety after dark. Is there a lot of crime? We would have to walk back to the hotel (Grand Niagara) from the viewing areas. Would this be safe?

Thanks for any information you can give me.

Toronto Milwaukee to Toronto (ONT) Using the Ferry System
Posted: Fri May 9, 2008 11:47 PM UTC
Low and high, high and low, I have looked everywhere. Has anyone done the Milwaukee, WI to Toronto, ONT trip using the ferry system across Lakes Michigan and Huron (God, I hope that's the right lake). I'm trying to find a way to avoid a nasty trip just on the US highway system going to Connecticut. Toronto to Connecticut is a scant 9 hour drive, whereas, Rochester, MN to CT is around 20 hrs. We will be taking a car (obviously) so portage with that item is mandatory.

We'll be heading out May 20. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
A gagillion thanks to anyone that can help.

Toronto TORONTO ZOO STROLLERS?
Posted: Fri May 9, 2008 12:52 AM UTC
We are planning visiting there next weekend and was wondering what their double strollers are like? I have a 16 month old baby and he still naps during the day and also a 3 year old with short legs lol who likes to be pokey.

Do the strollers recline?
Is it best to rent 2 singles or 1 double?
Is there storage places?
What are the wagons like?

If you have any pictures of the strollers that be great to!

Niagara Falls A few questions for my first trip
Posted: Thu May 1, 2008 10:52 AM UTC
Hi!

I am planning my trip to Niagara in September and just need a little bit of help. I am flying in to Buffalo and getting a bus or shuttle to the Canadian side of the falls, after my 2 night stay I am going to take the train to New York.

What I need your help with is I dont know if it is better to board the train on the Canadian side and sit for 2 hours while customs do their thing or if there is a bus which I can take to the American side and catch the train from there?

The other option I wondered about is either taking a bus back to Buffalo and getting the train from there as there are more departures? or staying in Buffalo and visiting the falls for the day?

I am travelling on my own and would like to do things as cheap as possible so going to be staying in hostels and they are the same cost if I stay in either location.

One final question! The Empire Service and Lake Shore Limited trains are cheaper than the Maple Leaf service why is that?

Thanks for your help!

Algonquin Provincial Park Best Algonquin lake to find two adjacent campsites?
Posted: Mon April 28, 2008 08:49 AM UTC
I've been camping in Algonquin for 15 or so years, but I've mainly stuck to Rock and Opeongo. A couple of times I've noticed two adjecent sites that were close enough to be connected by a short (30 or 40 foot) path.

I'm looking to find a lake where there are two such sites close to each other. If possible, a lake where there are a few clusters of two sites next to each other (in case one is occupied when we arrive)

I realize that this is rare in Algonquin interior camping, but I've seen them a few times.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Toronto What to bring? Places to eat?....
Posted: Sat April 26, 2008 04:47 AM UTC
Hello,

I will be coming to Toronto next week for one week and I will be staying near Toronto university (Gloucester St). I have a few questions:

1. I understand the weather will be somewhat cold and rainy this time of the year, but I am curious as to how cold and what kind of clothes should I bring along?

2. Does anyone know any good fast food or simple (casual) restaurants on or near Gloucester st where I can have breakfast / lunch / dinner?

3. I am thinking about taking the airport express transport from the airport when I arrive. But since it only makes 8 stops at certain hotels in downtown Toronto (which do not include the place I will be staying at), I can get off at Bond Palace Hotel or Delta Chelsea Hotel and then get a taxi to Gloucester st. Is it easy to get a taxi on the streets of Toronto in that area? or would it be difficult especially at mid-day?

4. Best places to do shopping for gifts for the family?

Thank You.

Ottawa Any tips for Ottawa Visit?
Posted: Mon April 21, 2008 08:21 AM UTC
Hi
I'll be traveling to Ottawa at the end of this month on work, and staying for about 5 days. Coming from a tropical island in Asia, where the ave daily temperature is about 32 deg C, I'd like to know how cold it would probably be at this time. I'm not averse to cold weather, but I want to pack appropriately.
I'll be arriving at Ottawa airport from JFK on Sunday afternoon, so I have the rest of the day, and possibly part of Monday for sightseeing. After that I have to buckle down to work.
I'm departing on Fri via Chicago then LA & onwards, I've heard that flights to the US have to clear security and immigration on the Canada side?
Any tips appreciated. Thanks.

So we want to drive one day halfway from Boston to Niagara falls then spend the night at a nice place. The arrive at the falls. Look around some hours. The drive into Canada some hours find a nice place to stay a day and then return to Boston. We have rental cars. We do not wanna sleep at the Niagara waterfalls. Does anyone have ideas how to fill the trip. We are with 2 families and both families have teenage Children.

Toronto 9 Hour Layover in Toronto!
Posted: Sat April 19, 2008 03:12 PM UTC
Hi everyone,

We have a nine (9) hour layover in Toronto. Arrive Toronto at 5:45AM on a Mon., depart Toronto for Chicago at 3PM.

We would like to visit:

*CN Tower, opens at 9AM
*Hockey Hall of Fame (HHOF), opens at 10AM
*Eat somewhere unique to Toronto near both places above

-Can we check our luggage in lockers at the airport?
(We only have a total of two suitcases (carry-on size))

-What's the best way to get to Toronto from the airport and back?

-Is the HHOF within walking distance of the CN Tower? or do we taxi?

-Should we buy our CN Tower tickets online in advance?

Thanks so much everyone, we very excited to visit Toronto for the first time! :)

3) Do you have hop-on-tour-buses in Toronto - like those in europe? If yes, how much?

4) What's the best way to get to niagra falls? Is it better to get to niagra falls from montreal or toronto? Which journey has a better view? Couch? Train?

Niagara Falls I need Help!!! Questions about my upcoming trip
Posted: Thu April 3, 2008 12:01 AM UTC
I am planning a suprise trip for my husband the last week of April to Niagara Falls (he thinks we are going to my high school reunion, he he!) and we are flying into the Buffalo Airport. We will be getting there mid day on a friday and leaving early monday I have several questions and would appreciate any and all help!

1) Would you recommend booking a hotel or a cabin? (I think it is still to cold for camping but my husband loves the outdoors. If so which would you recommend?)
2) What type of transportation do you think would be best? (i.e. rent a car, take taxi or shuttle from airport, public transportation)(especially tips on how to get from the Buffalo airport to the Canadian side for Cheap!)
3) Are there any problems I should be aware of if we decide to stay on the Canadian side? (We are American citizens with no passports, only DL and birth certif.)
4) What restaurants do you recommend for a reasonably priced food? (A low to medium budget answers here would be appreciated)
5) Are there any outdoor activities that you would recommend (We plan to do the Behind the falls, maid of mist, aero car, etc. and are looking for anything else outdoors to fit in while we are there.)

Thanks so much for your help!
