Montreal General Montreal Questions
Posted: Fri May 16, 2008 06:52 PM UTC
Heading to Montreal and have some questions

1. Do most people speak English? Is it similar to Paris, where most people know english, but do not want to speak with you unless you speak french?

2. How should i dress in the summertime? Is it formal like Paris or can i wear shorts/t-shirt and not stick out like a sore thumb.

3. Are there any areas in Montreal that should be avoided for safety reasons? ie. red-light district?

4. need recommendations for a hotel. Looking for 3stars, with internet access inside the room in downtown Montreal for $100 USD or less. Is this possible?

Vancouver Granville Island
Posted: Fri May 16, 2008 05:48 AM UTC
Hi,
I am going to be in Vancouver next week. I am interested in going to Granville Island for a day. I was wondering the best way to get there from Richmond? Also, I have read that you can take a mini ferry to Granville, where do I do that? Or is it better to drive there directly?

Thanks for your help! I am getting excited!!!

Quebec bar in quebec city
Posted: Thu May 15, 2008 12:57 AM UTC
Hi. I'm looking for the name of a bar in Quebec City that I recently went to but have forgotten the name of. I'm pretty sure it was in Vieux Quebec, but I'm not 100 percent. The place had two floors. Upstairs there was a pool table and you could play darts. Close to the pool table there was an outdoor terrace. They also served some food, such as nachos and chicken wings. On the bottom floor they were also serving beer and as the night got older there was live music there, at least on saturday night, we left early the other day we were there so I don't know if there's live music every night. You could watch tv on both floors. I think it's on Rue St-Jean or somewhere in that area or at least around that area. Does anyone know what place I'm talking about?

Province of Nova Scotia Going Buggy
Posted: Tue May 13, 2008 01:48 AM UTC
Hello Oh-Worldly-Ones -

We are planning a trip to NS (probably staying along the south shore) June 13 - 21. I've been told by a cottage owner that the bugs are bad at this time and that it really is not the time to be there.

It's the ONLY time we can go. Are they really that much of a problem? My daughter is quite sensitive to insect bites and they treat her like she's a Sunday buffet. Should we reconsider?

Thanks.

Toronto Pearson Int'l Airport > Union Station?
Posted: Mon May 12, 2008 06:29 PM UTC
Hello, all. If this question has been asked before, I sincerely apologize.

I will be flying from Atlanta, Georgia, USA, to Toronto on Monday, June 23, with a final destination of Kingston, Ontario.

I will be arriving approximately 0830 at Toronto Pearson and would like to catch the 1130 train from Union Station, bound for Kingston.

I'd like to avoid taking a taxi because of cost, and I've heard the stories about how bad Toronto traffic can be that time of day. I tried finding information about subway/bus service between Pearson and Union, but frankly, I can't make heads or tails of it all.

If anyone can provide information about the best public transportation options between Pearson and Union, that would be greatly, greatly appreciated. Any tips about how to handle my luggage (one bag, one carry-on), fares, realistic travel time between the airport and the train station, smart traveler tips, etc., would also be appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

Province of Nova Scotia drive, ferry, or fly?
Posted: Sun May 11, 2008 11:27 PM UTC
We're a group of 6 travelers trying to decide how to get to Nova Scotia. We will have to fly to get to the NE anyway, so we were considering flying into Boston and driving from there into Nova Scotia. Our connections from Texas are much easier going to Boston than Portland, etc. Does anyone know how long of a trip (Boston to the Amherst area) that would be? One of our travelers gets motion sickness, so the ferry may not be an option. We want to maximize scenic car-time, but I am afraid this may be just crazy. As you can see we're total novices to this area. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Province of Saskatchewan Hiking, fishing, photography around (4 hours drive) Saskatoon
Posted: Sun May 11, 2008 06:23 PM UTC
Hi,

I am in Saskatoon for 2 month and I don't want to hang around all the time in the city. So do you have any suggestions where I should go for fishing and hiking ? Planed to hire a car (Do you know a good one in town?) to drive around. Because of my work here I think a drive up to 4 hours would be ok for me.

thanks.

Niagara Falls Niagara Falls Safety/Crime after sunset - walking to Canada
Posted: Sun May 11, 2008 02:58 AM UTC
Hi,

My boyfriend and I are visiting Niagara falls soon and had a few questions. We are staying on the US side but we were planning on making a trip to the Canada side on foot. How long do you think it would take to cross the rainbow bridge on foot?

Also, we wanted to see the falls illuminated but were concerned with safety after dark. Is there a lot of crime? We would have to walk back to the hotel (Grand Niagara) from the viewing areas. Would this be safe?

Thanks for any information you can give me.

Toronto Milwaukee to Toronto (ONT) Using the Ferry System
Posted: Fri May 9, 2008 11:47 PM UTC
Low and high, high and low, I have looked everywhere. Has anyone done the Milwaukee, WI to Toronto, ONT trip using the ferry system across Lakes Michigan and Huron (God, I hope that's the right lake). I'm trying to find a way to avoid a nasty trip just on the US highway system going to Connecticut. Toronto to Connecticut is a scant 9 hour drive, whereas, Rochester, MN to CT is around 20 hrs. We will be taking a car (obviously) so portage with that item is mandatory.

We'll be heading out May 20. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
A gagillion thanks to anyone that can help.

Do the strollers recline?
Is it best to rent 2 singles or 1 double?
Is there storage places?
What are the wagons like?

Jasper National Park Planning to visit Jasper in June 2009 from The Netherlands
Posted: Wed May 7, 2008 02:38 PM UTC
Hi everybody,

I have a question and I hope someone can help me with it.
Last year my girlfriend and I travelled through the Western side of Canada, including Jasper and Banff National Park. Now we want to visit Jasper again, we think about that place almost everyday.
We're planning to return in late May or June 2009. I'm just wondering what to do. We're flying over from Holland to Vancouver I think. Last time we took the bus to go to Jasper, but I'm thinking of hiring a car and drive to Jasper myself. But, I'm not familiar with big traffic ( I'm from Holland you see d:), and I don't know the route.

My questions are:

Can I rent a car and drive up to Jasper ( and probably Banff too) myself or take the bus?

Is June a better time to go then May? In terms of seeing wildlife like bears?

Can someone recommend me when to book the hotels for that period in 2009?

Any help is much appreciated, thanks for helping out!

Kind regards, Ralph and Lenny
