niagara falls via amtrak Posted: Fri July 3, 2009 02:35 PM UTC
Hello
I will be coming to Ontario through Niagara Falls by train later this month. My Amtrak ticket is for New York City to Niagara Falls and then I have a ViaRail reservation for Niagara Falls to Grimsby ON. I am wondering if I have to get off the train (I think it is the same train/different crew)to get my ticket and reboard to carry on to Grimsby. I have asked this question of both ViaRail and Amtrak but have not be able talk to anyone with the answers. If anyone has any knowledge of this, I would really appreciate your help.
Thanks so much.

Walking Across Boarder? Posted: Thu July 2, 2009 04:36 PM UTC
Hello,
I have never been to Niagra falls and was wondering if it is possible to walk across the boarder?
How expensive is it to cross with a taxi?
Is there a bus service that crosses boarder?
If there are more than two ports of entry, which one would you recomend?
Thank you...

Greyhound buses in Canada Posted: Thu July 2, 2009 02:45 PM UTC
I would like to go on a trip to the Prairies by Greyhound bus (I'm from Quebec); as a HI member the 14-day Discovery Pass would cost just $213. The thing is that for such a long trip (about 55 hours), it's an absolute necessity to have my bag on the bus (food, spare clothes/underwear, toothbrush, etc...)
Last December, Greyhound had announced that it had banned all carry-on baggage from its buses without exception. But this seems to be a hoax; the company website says carry on bags are allowed. I don't want to find myself stuck in a bus without any of the essential stuff so I need to know who is right!
Has anyone here been on a Greyhound bus in Ontario or the Prairies recently? Were you allowed to have a carry-on bag?
Thanks.

Getting From Vancouver to Butchart Gardens Posted: Wed July 1, 2009 09:51 PM UTC
What is the most expeditous way to get from downtown Vancouver to Butchart Gardens (other than flying). It seems there is no way to avoid a 3.5 hr trip each way. If doing a day excursion, this leaves little time to actually see the gardens. any suggestions? Would you recommend a stay over in Victoria (we have a few days before heading north to Alaska).
Right now the best way seems to be the Vancouver Bus Terminal/PacificCoach -BC Ferry Term-Swartz Bay-local bus to Butchart.
Is there a better way???

Good cottage at Sandbanks? Posted: Tue June 30, 2009 07:16 PM UTC
Hi -
My family and I would like to rent a cottage at Sandbanks Provincial Park, near Kingston, Ontario.
We've never been there before and would like to rent a reasonably-priced cottage near the beach. We have four in our family (two kids), and might share a cottage with another family.
Any recommendations?

Niagara Falls experiences Posted: Tue June 30, 2009 06:50 PM UTC
My bf & I are heading to Niagara Falls (both sides most likely) this coming weekend. I'm doing research and came upon these two similar adventures:
Journey Behind the Falls and Cave of the Winds Tour
They both sound similar (taking an elevator down and walking on a boardwalk close the falls). One is on the Canada side and the other on the US side.
Have any of you been to both, or either? Which one do you recommend?
Also, any place else we shouldn't miss at Niagara? We are going on Maid of the Mist as well. We've both been to Niagara before but more than 10 years ago.
(We'll be in Toronto heading back to the US so just stopping in for about half a day).
Thanks!

Cheap way to get to Montreal from Toronto Posted: Sun June 28, 2009 03:03 PM UTC
Dear all, hi, I am going to visit Montreal in the mid of July. As to the information I now have, I can either take train, bus or flight to there. Unfortunately, I am a budget traveller, so taking flight is not my issue. I wonder any other cheap ways to go to Montreal?
Many thanks to any suggestions.
Cheers

Best dimsum and Korean BBQ in Toronto or close by Posted: Sun June 28, 2009 03:51 AM UTC
Where is the best place to eat dimsum in/around Toronto? We have a car so we can travel beyond the city. I know that Toronto has a huge Chinese population so there must be some excellent places. I'm planning on visiting Pacific Mall. Are there any good places there to eat?
Also, where is the best place to eat Korean bbq? I read reviews on Korean Grill House and Grill Time Korean BBQ. If you've been to both and could only go to one, which one would you choose? If neither, what place would you recommend?
Thanks for your help. :)

In and around Red Deer Posted: Wed June 24, 2009 06:50 PM UTC
Hi… we are planning a visit to the western coast in September. We are spending five days in Gros Morne, two days up around St. Anthony and a night/day at Port au Choix.
We are departing from Deer Lake and would like to arrive back close to there on the night before we depart. This leaves us one day to fill.
Could somebody please recommend something interesting to see/do [we enjoy hiking and nature] between Port au Choix and Deer Lake? Anything interesting close to Cormack?
Thank you!!!

Where can I find Golden Cloud brand Chinese Sausages? Posted: Tue June 23, 2009 11:23 AM UTC
I'll be visiting Toronto soon and want to make a trip to Chinatown to pick up the Golden Cloud brand of Chinese Sausages while I'm there. They used to be shipped to the U.S., but it seems that brand is no longer available here and it's been my favorite brand to cook with since I discovered them years ago. I know there are several Chinatowns in Toronto, but I'm not familiar with any of them and I was hoping I could at least get the names/addresses of some of the Chinese supermarkets in the area. In the past, the sausages were available at the larger Chinese supermarkets in NY where many different brands were carried. Any help would be appreciated.

Single traveller trying to choose where to go in Canada Posted: Mon June 22, 2009 12:20 PM UTC
Hi,
I turn 40 in late September and am currently single, so rather than spend this horrible birthday at home in the dreary UK I'm planning to visit your amazing country again, but on my own this time.
I've seen the falls etc so am looking for something equally awe inspiring this time if possible.
Would the Rockies fit the bill do you think?
Also, having been in a car accident of my own making whilst driving on the right hand side of the road in Spain, I'm keen to use public transport to get around. Is that possible in the Rockies? Are there trains etc through Banff/Jasper apart from the Rocky Mountainier?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
