In your review you mention some really yummy sounding items with a New Orleans influence and even some French specials. Just curious if you would list the chef & his credentials. I like to know about the kitchen when I visit a new restaurant. Thanx, Kathy K.

West Virginia Looking for a cabin the the New River Gorge area or nearby lake, any suggestions?
Posted: Fri March 16, 2007 07:52 PM UTC
Looking for a cabin in the New River Gorge area with 2-3 bedrooms and hopefully next to the water. This will be a family vacation with the intention of seeing the sites and doing some fishing. I would like to be on a lake to river to fish, must have a hot tub too.

Anyone have suggestions of places that they stayed or know of? We have looked at a lot of the brochures but you really don't know what you're getting unless you've seen it.

Could anyone provide information on Ripley, West Virginia? We are hoping to purchase a home on a few acres for retirement. We are looking for small town atmosphere and have seen photos of Ripley online. It would be great if we could get feedback from folks who have visited the area and suggestions on other parts of West Virginia too. Thanks to all who respond!!

West Virginia Waterfalls
Posted: Fri October 20, 2006 02:17 PM UTC
I am looking for some unique waterfalls to photograph in West Virginia. I have a few that I have taken pictures of here http://www.forestwander.com/indexwaterfalls.htm

However I am looking for the highest waterfall in West Virginia.

The waterfall that I have a picture of on http://www.forestwander.com is the second highest waterfall in West Virginia but I am looking for the highest waterfall.

Also I am looking for remote waterfalls that are inaccessible by car. we like to hike out to areas that are practically untouched.

Any idea or comments are appreciated.

Charleston Charleston Question
Posted: Wed July 12, 2006 08:14 PM UTC
Hi, I am considering attending college in the Charleston area, but I am concerned about the place being very small. I am from a large city and am not sure if I can get the same amenities as in a big city. Can I in Charleston? Also, I have heard that the area is very industrial and dirty, with lots of poverty? That true? Thanks.

West Virginia Driving from Kentucky to West Virginia
Posted: Sat July 8, 2006 04:05 AM UTC
Hello!!

In September, my family and I are going to be going to Memphis, and then thought we could drive on to West Virginia to visit my relatives (they live near Logan, WV). My question is this: although this isn't specifically about WV, could anyone recommend any side trips between Louisville, KY and Charleston? Thanks so much!!!

West Virginia Visiting in Winter
Posted: Fri December 9, 2005 01:08 AM UTC
I'm pondering a trip to West Virginia around Christmas this year, and I wonder if anyone could give me any suggestions where to go. I'm driving from Fredericksburg (VA), so I'll probably visit somewhere in eastern WV. I'm not too interested in skiing though, or Christmas festivals or anything. Does anyone have a suggestion for where I could go?

West Virginia Traveling south to Florida - choose between east or west routes
Posted: Sun November 20, 2005 05:49 PM UTC
Hello, I hope I'm writing to the correct forum (or maybe should try W. Virginia)?

Every other year since I was in university, I travel south to Florida from Ontario for Christmas. Most recently we've been traveling further West, through Ohio /Kentucky. This time we are considering the Easterly route through New York / Penn / through Beckley (thats the tunnel right? or is that Bluefield?) Wytheville, etc. (Hwy 77/74)

Lets say we chose the westerly route and were in Lexington, Kentucky the evening before? Are the highways passable from Lexington, KY to Beckley / Wytheville / Mt. Airy? Can anyone recommend a route? Sould we include a section of the Blue Ridge Parkway? I can see some highways on a map, just am concerned if there are gas stations open at night, or any other dangers? Also a recommendation for a good restaurant serving mmm buckwheat pancakes ;)? or anything else traditional?

Thanks for your advice - we're getting too 'arthritic' to sit in a car drinking Gatorade for 24 hours like we used to ;)

West Virginia Potomac Highlands
Posted: Sat September 10, 2005 08:46 AM UTC
We plan to drive through the Potomac Highlands in West Virginia during the first week of August next year. I'll be travelling with two teenagers. Although I'm originally from America, I've never been to West Virginia. My children have been raised in Britain. The kids love America and like things that are quintessentially American. (probably so they can impress their friends back in the UK) I love the scenery but I'm also looking for activies for the kids. Any suggestions? We would also love to see some live music on the way. Can anyone recommend a good place to stop? Any recommended routes or places to avoid? Thanks for your help.

West Virginia Family Lodge/cabin facilities
Posted: Mon July 19, 2004 02:27 PM UTC
My family has a re-union every year and next year my brother and I were charged with finding and arranging a place in West Virginia for said re-union.

What we are looking for is a place that rents lodges/cabins with enough capacity for 40-50 people including singles, teens and families. We would prefer someplace kind of secluded (relatively speaking) that is fairly easy to get to by car. Someone had recommended a state park (Pipestem was the name if I recall properly) as a good location.

As I am not familiar with WV, any input on areas would be wonderful!

Thanks in advance,

Chris

West Virginia fall color
Posted: Sat June 5, 2004 12:15 PM UTC
My hubby was born and raised in Bluefield, but left as a youth. his sister still lives there. I love Southern WV and would move there in a heartbeat if could sell out here in Florida. For now we will vacation there this fall near new River Gorge, so would like to know when the leaves are full color and when first snowfall is likely. Niot to ski, but just to look at. Thanks you lucky dudes that live there.

Morgantown Maryland to Ohio
Posted: Tue May 25, 2004 12:29 PM UTC
I'm planning to take a leisurely trip from my home in Leonardtown to my 45th college reunion in Ohio this weekend via WV. I had planned to stop off in Morgantown for the night. But I can't find any information about things to see in Morgantown except the University there. What's in Morgantown to see?

What other places should I perhaps stop by in the northern WV area or in the panhandle?

Charleston What to do near Charleston West Virginia - Sept 04
Posted: Fri April 16, 2004 10:13 AM UTC
OK - this is a long shot my VT friends.
My wife and I plan to be in Charleston, West Virginia, this September. This will be my first visit to the area. We also have to be in Delaware. Hmmm.
Can anyone suggest any places to see or visit, walks in the area, museums and cultural centres, that will give me a good insight into the area. I do not plan to travel much each day and would be happier with "small and local" suggestions.
Can anyone suggest good websites for accurate info?
Any advice on cheap flights to this area, from UK???

If anyone replies to this I'll be amazed - happily!!!

Best wishes from Scotland.

Crumpler atv riding
Posted: Sat September 20, 2003 08:21 AM UTC
Hi,
A couple of years ago me and my husband came to crumpler and camped and rode our atv on some coal mine trails that were there. Well we have recently gotten back into riding and would love to know if this place is still open to ride on. It was the best time we ever had and the trails and views were just great. Can you help me out.
Thanks,
Terry
