Posted: Mon October 5, 2009 04:05 AM UTC
Granny and 10 year old arriving/departing via Amtrak. Do not care to rent a car - perfer to walk or use public transit. Can you suggest safe, clean, but low cost hotel near both Amtrak station and Colonial Williamsburg?
Thank you -

Is there a list of Richmonders that gave their lives in WW2 (I am searching Lt. Walter D Clary)? Not sure if he was buried in Hollywood or Forest Lawn.

Can anyone compare these two drives? I am taking a 31 foot RV onto Skyline Drive and I know I don't want to drive anything like Going to the Sun Road in Glacier.

Shenandoah Advice sought - Suggested route/stops for Road Trip - Washington to Atlanta
Posted: Fri February 13, 2009 09:49 AM UTC
Hi

We are planning a trip in the fall as follows:

Fly to Washington DC staying for a couple of days then head off towards the Blue (Ridge) Parkway stopping of one or two nights en route towards Asheville heading towards Pigeon Forge to take in/stay near Dollywood then heading towards Nashville to stay there a couple of days then finally heading to Atlanta for a couple of days and then home.

Would anyone be able to give advice for a suggested route to take in part of the Blue Parkway and Shenandoah National Parks - and which towns to stop over in/any suggested accomodation?

Any tips/advice etc on where to stay/must do's would be most appreciated.

Many thanks

Virginia Vacation Rental Cabin
Posted: Mon February 2, 2009 08:22 PM UTC
Hello from N.Ireland,
I will be visiting the States in July 2009 with my wife and kids (15 & 11). Would like to visit the Shenandoah area and rent a Cabin by the river for 3 - 4 nights. My head is spinning with the amount of websites. Can anyone recommend a log/wooden cabin in the river with tub. If it had bikes and kayaks/canoes, that would be great.
Hope you can help

Virginia truck stops on highways that are NOT interstates within Virginia ...
Posted: Fri September 26, 2008 06:07 PM UTC
I am going to be traveling from Dollywood, Pigeon Forge, TN to Colonial Williamsburg, Williamsburg, VA during the Christmas 2008 season. Finding gasoline, food, laundry and shopping at truck stops along interstates within Virginia is okay BUT for a portion of the journey I am going to be OFF of interstates, most notably US 220 / 221 / 460 between Roanoke and the western suburbs of Richmond. Does anyone know the locations and contact information for truck stops along this roadway? Thanks.

Williamsburg Advice for Honeymoon
Posted: Fri September 26, 2008 12:10 AM UTC
I would like all the advice I can get on what to do in Williamsburg, VA. My fiance and I are going there on our honeymoon that last week in October. I have looked at all there is to do there and I have no idea where to start. Should I buy a travel package deal or should I wait till we get there to buy tickets? Also advice on where to stay would be nice. We are wanting a nice hotel, but not too pricey. We aren't going to be in it that much so we would rather use our money on other things. But we don't want to stay in a run down place either. We thought about driving out to VA Beach one of our days and viewing all the lighthouses and attractions out there. But we are more interested in the colonial part so that's where we want to spend the majority of our trip. So any suggestions would be great.

Thanks

Ihave been told th is is the off season at the beach and rates should be cheaper so would like advice as to where would be a good place to stay to have access to both the beach and the convention center so I can attend my meeting but also enjoy the beach. Hope someone would give me some advise. Thanks

Virginia Beach Bachelorette Weekend - Place to Stay?
Posted: Wed July 30, 2008 02:46 AM UTC
We are looking to head to VA Beach in mid-September 2008 for a bachelorette party. We would prefer to rent a house or condo that can accommodate 8 women instead of getting a bunch of hotel rooms. What part of VA Beach should we be looking in? We don't want to be far from the nightlife. If hotels are in a more convenient area, which hotels should we look in to? We don't want to spend too much on lodging and a place where we can eat some meals in is what we are looking for. Any information on fun places to go as far as nightlife is appreciated as well. Thanks!

Staunton Looking for firewood near Staunton, VA
Posted: Mon June 30, 2008 06:26 PM UTC
Hi all! (it echos in here! - anyone around?)

We'll be heading for the Staunton, VA area in a couple of days and we'd be really happy to hear about any tips anyone might have for finding some free firewood in the area. We don't need a ton of it - just enough for a campfire for a few nights. The last trip we took we happened to pass by a place where someone had just cut a tree down and left the logs by the side of the road with a free sign on them, and that was great.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Norfolk Staying in Williamsburg and going to Norfolk for the day.
Posted: Mon June 30, 2008 04:56 AM UTC
If anybody reading this post and have tips to share with us pls do.
First of Sept 08 we are staying at Powhatan Plantation in Williamsburg VA for one week. Never stayed at this resort. It is thru RCI. I hope it is nice. I hope I can look forward to it and not look back on it as something We shd not have done.
We would like to spend a day at Norfolk. Maybe at the waterfront? Hoping to have boat to plate dinner? Good stadium seating movies nearby?
We would like to go to Virgina Beach one day as well. Anybody know any good raw bars there?
I would like some help from people who know first hand of these places. Not hopelessly rely on brochures. Although I'm not knocking brochures. Thanks in advance.
