We are planning to make a short trip to the Smoky mountains. Actually we decided to stop there enroute. I know we probably need more time to see and experience this place, but can someone point us to what would be the TO-DO things, places a must see in a day's trip.
We will be there in the 1st week of Dec. Also tips on type of clothing and anything additional is greatly appreciated.
I have a simple enough request: I want to obtain info (sights, hotels and the like) for Nashville. We are planning on visiting in a year (from today), so I'm starting to dig for information.
Ideally, I'd like to talk with someone, either a resident or traveller, who knows the place.
As a ps -- I'm a big country music fan (Hmmmmm thought you'd need to know that).
What are some tips for general admission seating at Mud Island? bug spray? blanket or soccer chairs? parking? getting there early (before it opens at 7pm for an 8pm concert)?
Please help with whatever info you can. Thanks!
my extended family of 6 (4 adults & 2 teens) are vacationing in chattanooga in a couple of weeks and need to know some reasonably priced (cheaper the better - good quality)restaurants. Also if there are some deals on recreational activities that would be beneficial to us! thanks
My family is going to the Mt's for my parent's 50th Anniversary. We are spending a week together and decided that we would like to tube in the mts. This is something we can participate in - different ages and skill levels - the problem is finding a place to do it. The only place I have found is "river rats" Has anyone used them? If so tell me what you thought, please.
Thanks Cardwatcher
My husband and I are travelling through Memphis next month heading to Arkansas for a wedding. I am attempting to make reservations in a pet-friendly hotel close to I-40 but want to be in a safe neighborhood. Since we have a small dog, this really limits us to where we can stay. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions or at least advise what are the safe areas.
I am planning a trip for my husband and myself to memphis on october 2009 and would appreciate advice on where to base ourselves.
It has been a life long dream to visit memphis but i am receiving many conflicting reports on where to stay and visit, so much so that i am now delaying booking my trip. I was hoping to stay at the heartbreak hotel but have been told that it is in a very bad area. I also wanted to visit beale street but again am told that it's dangerous.
Can anyone please advise me of the best area to stay and visit.
MY HUSBAND & I ARRIVE IN NASHVILLE FOR 2 WEEKS JUNE 8th. 2009 - 22nd
we are staying at RADISSON HOTEL @ OPRYLAND. We will be going to CMAFEST ,all booked, including shuttle between hotel and CMA FEST. My husband is bad on his legs, since birth, and we need to hire a buggy or light wheelchair, for us to be able to get about. I have tried contacting through net with no replies.
Also we arrive at Nashville International Airport June 8th @ 16:39 hrs and will need transport to hotel. Can anyone give me imformation. In the fall we were in
NEW ENGLAND and found the same easy to obtain, but now I am getting nervous because I am getting nowhere
I am passing thru Nashville with 2 17 year old girls. We would like to experience the District area downtown for the music. Will they be able to get in some places because of their age if accompanied by adults?
Taking a couple of friends from overseas to Memphis this weekend. Looking for a good ol' fashioned juke joint...not a commercial, touristy place. Any suggestions?? Thanks!
i'll be in nashville next week for the USA vs. Trinidad soccer game at LP field. while there, we'd like to check out some of the attractions downtown and the entertainment district. based on the city map, i figure that i could park at the Metro Courthouse, located at the south end of 2nd Avenue and Union St. then we could walk acrosss the Woodland St. Bridge to LP Field.
before and after the game we can check out downtown nashville and the entertainment district respectively.
is this doable? my concerns with this plan are:
1. is it sake to walk across the Woodland St. Bridge to LP Field? Are there pedestrian lanes?
2. is the Metro Courthouse parking lot safe and close enough to the downtown attractions and the entertainment district to walk?
3. is downtown Nashville safe at night from muggers and the like?
We will be traveling from the Chicago area to the southwestern side of the Smokies in late May and early June. We will be camping out. Since we've never been in the area before I would like to hear what we can expect in terms of weather, bugs how crowded it will be.
Our activities will be limited to hiking, camping and photography.
Hi,
I'm planning my first visit to the USA and want to travel around by train from state to state over a two to three week vacation. My stay in each city will be flexible depending on how much I like the places I visit.
A few nights in New York and then to Nashville for a couple of nights, on to Memphis, then Las Vegas, finishing my holiday in San Francisco. I have already been recommended to travel by train (rather than domestic flights with their delays in checking in and out) through this forum.
Could anyone give me an overview of travel costs and journey times - for example the rail fare from NY to Nashville Tennessee. -
Which Rail company would you recommend which would offer a guaranteed comfortable seat/sleeper where necessary and if a dining car would be available. How much would I expect to pay on both budget and first class rail?
This is a great site - I have just found out about it.
Thank you.
Paul.
City Tour Posted: Thu February 26, 2009 12:04 AM UTC

Hello, I am going to be coming to a Grizzlies game and was curious about the safety around the arena? Is it in a safe area? I will be coming in on I-40 from the west and would like to know the safest route to the Fedex forum. Also after the game I would like to go to Tunica and was wondering if it was safe to drive down 61 late at night? I see Graceland is not far off from 61 and have read it is really ghetto and unsafe after dark. Thanks a bunch!!!
Hi
I am in Memphis for a few nights next week. Last time I was in town Beale Street was pretty empty mid week, is that just how it is or are there some busy bars and clubs to go on a Tuesday and Wednesday?
I'm a straight guy in my last thirties just looking to party
Thanks
I am looking for long term parking for the duration of two weeks near S Main Street in, what I believe is downtown, Memphis. I am going to be riding the Amtrak and need a back up plan if their parking lot is full since it is near Christmas and everything. Really all I need are the names of parking spots like, 'fly away' chains and stuff like that. Thanks.
Downtown Motel Posted: Wed December 3, 2008 01:14 AM UTC
Any opinions on the Comfort Inn on Demonbreun St in Downtown Nashville. Want to stay two nights in December and be within walking distance of Ryman and other attractions. Nashville doesnt suffer from any "Blue Laws" on Sunday do they?
travel mug Posted: Wed November 26, 2008 12:36 AM UTC
My friend bought his favorite travel coffee mug in a gift shop on the top of the mountain inGatlinburg. He needs to replace it but can't find anything like it anywhere. It needs to be 24 oz or bigger, be able to fit in a cup holder in his car, has to be microwaveable and has no handle. Is there such a thing in one of your gift shops?
Can anyone tell me what the trails are like in Eastern Tennessee? I have hiked part of the Appalachian Trail in the NE part of Pennsylvania (the Pocono area) and found it to be heavily laden with upturned rocks that like to trip you on the trail. This was pretty hard on my ankles.
Are the trails like this in the Eastern part of Tennessee too? I am hoping that it was just that part in Pennsylvania that is like this.
