My wife and I will be arriving in Greenville by Amtrak at 5 am on Tuesday Nov 24 and we are looking for a breakfast restaurant or place to wait until we can pick up our rental car at 8 am. Do you have any suggestions?
It's been a few years since we were in Hilton Head and I've been hearing horror stories regarding the fines for alcohol on the beach. We do not drink much but do enjoy an occasional cold beer and in the past have always poured in a cup or covered the can with a koozie. I've been reading that people are getting ticketed and having to pay huge fines. Anybody been recently? We always are discreet!!
For the tour, I want to do the tour where you go to the island and find sea shells... When i called they also said there was time to fish. i am not a big fisher. Do they provide everything including bait and the fishing rod? How was your experience if you went. there wern't any comments so I was just wondering how people experiences were :). Any info would help thanks so much!!!!
I will be driving to Charleston for the Spoleto. I plan to stay outside the Historical area only because of the price. Where do we park? I hear that your public tansportation is good -more info on that. Thank you
On Easter Sunday, 2009, my 26 year old son and I visited Isle of Palms and ate a simply delicious burger from what I would call a bar and grill. It was on the left going in the direction of Sullivans from the IOP. We saw it from the front but drove around and parked in the back, climbed up steps in the back and ate on the outside deck. Inside the restaurant was a bar, 2 pool tables and a place for a band. As we sat on the deck and looked toward the ocean we could see a hotel or condominiums that was open underneath and people were coming and going under it to the beach. There was a large dog or maybe even two lying on the floor by the bar. I used my credit card and it was listed on my statement a Rock and Roll Roadhouse, although that was not the name that was on the restaurant. Here is my dilemma, we have been back twice since then and cannot find the place......and not only that no one know what I am talking about. People say it was Windjammers, it was not! It was not ocean front but about a block off, and as I said we could see people going to beach under a hotel or condo. We think it may have been in the vicinity of the fire station.
Please help!!! Not only do we want to eat there again but we have to prove to ourselves that we are not crazy. Thanks! Dianne Johnson

i'm from Brooklyn, and my wife and i are driving down to Charleston for a week in mid-March.
we've never been, but we love the beach off-season; and we really enjoy discovering new places, especially the local spots.
problem is, all i can find online is a bunch of cheesy travel-sites with thumbnail pics of hampton inns and golf courses... can anyone out there lead us toward a couple great spots to start with? maybe an off-the-beaten-path place to stay that's not crazy expensive? or a great bar with no sign, tucked away at the end of an alley somewhere? or a seafood restaurant on a crooked dock with a guy playing lounge piano?
i will be happy to return the favor (vis a vis New York City) anytime!
cheers and many thanks.
I'm going to be in Charleston for one day. We are staying in Myrtle Beach and taking about a 1/2 day trip to Charleston. We're probably just looking to grab dinner and maybe see the sights for a couple hours. It's just my retired parents and I so we're not looking for the wildest bar or anything like that. Here are a couple questions:
Do you recommend a place to eat: Nothing too fancy. Maybe sandwiches and burgers or possibly seafood. A nice atmosphere in a good location would be ideal (maybe on a boardwalk, near downtown, beach, etc.)
What would you recommend if we only have a couple hours? We're not big musuem goers or anything like that. Maybe if there is a nice downtown area, boardwalk type area, etc. If it were close to a good restaurant that would be ideal.
Will be traveling through SC in February. I am looking to tour one of the plantations but their are several. Looking for some recommendations on which one to select. will be coming down 95 most likely and may end up in Charleston. Any good museums or other things to see?
I'm planning a bachelor party to Myrtle in late july / early august with about 12 guys. I havent been there in several years and I'm looking for some recommendations for the following:
1) lodging - we'd like to stay as close to the action as possible. also, a lot of us are golfers, so close to courses or actually in golf resorts would work. i'm not sure if it would make sense to look into hotels or for townhomes/condos. since this is a bachelor party, there will be some misbehaving, so seclusion and privacy is definitely something to consider.
2) golf courses - looking for local courses to play. we want to get the best bang for the buck. we want to play a couple nice courses, but we dont want to pay an arm and leg also.
3) nightlife - where are the best places to go with a large group? any good places with table service?
4) restaurants - what are the newest and hottest restaurants in town?
5) gentlemens club - as this is a bachelor party, there will most likely be a stop or two at a gentlemens club. any suggestions for a clean and fun place?
6) misc - anything additional that you think would be a good idea for this type of trip would be appreciated.
What is the best transportation from Charleston to Savannah? Car, train, bus, etc? We are on tight time constraints and want to spend as much time in each city. Thanks
Over 15 years ago, we visited Charleston. We fell in love with the city and enjoyed our visit to the Market. I purchased beautiful hand painted shell ornaments (Santa) for my two sons and every year enjoy hanging them on our tree. Several years after our visit, our third son was born. Recently, when I was putting away the ornaments, I discovered a business card for the person who painted the ornaments and wondered if they were still in the market after all these years. I would love to purchase one for him. The card reads Mary Lou's Ltd. Is this person still there? I know it has been a while. Thanks!
Any thoughts? (Please keep them encouraging as we've already booked the trip.) We'll be there for 4 nights, midweek and while it'll be warmer than here in Jersey, we're not expecting balmy tropical breezes.
Thanks in advance.
I am going on a small 3 1/2 day road trip from Charleston, SC to Asheville, NC in 5 days. I've been to Asheville NUMEROUS times with my parents and of course it was always a straight shot there and back. Now I am going on my own, and I want to see a little bit of South/North Carolina at the same time. I am taking 1-26 westbound for most of the trip.... I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on where I should stop, and what I should see on my way up there. Any suggestions would be very helpful! Thanks in advanced!!!
If I am staying downtown, how far are the beaches? can I walk? or bus? any other suggestions will be very appreciated, because I haven't booked the hotel yet, so I can flexible as far as location
Thanks
My extended family is planning a vacation to Fripp Island in August. We have 5 kids ages 20 mos.- 9 years. Most if what I pull up on the internet is about golf resorts...and more golf resorts. Aside from playiing on the beach, anything else out there for kids?
