Is there still a restaurant on Thayer street in Providence called "Montana's"? Just curiouse. I haven't eaten there in like 20 years, but a slow moment at work for some reason got me thinking about that.

| Providence | Help me complete my short relaxing Providence weekend itinerary Posted: Sun June 1, 2008 05:33 PM UTC
Suprising my wife with with a birthday weekend in Providence. Taking ferry from Orient Point, NY to New London, Ct. and then off to Providence. I'll probably tell her then, where we are going. Arriving June 20th about 8pm to the Courtyard. What is a nice area to grab a casual dinner and walk around for a couple of hours? On June 21st Waterfire is the evening entertainment. We will have a nice dinner (possibly Cafe Nuovo but other suggestions welcome) and then a 9:10pm gondola ride. Looking for a nice casual paced itinerary for Saturday afternoon. I'm usually a VT junkie when planning our trips but I promised her the next trip would be nice and relaxing. I promised her we would not climb any church towers or massive hills on our next trip. We will also have a couple of hours on Sunday to explore. Thanks in advance.

My husband and I are taking delivery of our sailboat this week. We'd like to know if there are recommended places to sail to on day trips around the newport area, as well as anchorages/place to moor our 43 foot sailboat.

| Newport | driving from nyc to newport Posted: Tue April 1, 2008 08:54 AM UTC
Thinking about driving from nyc to newport rhode island. Mapquest said it takes 3 hours but the time estimate it gives is always a few hours off. Has anyone ever driven from these two places? How long did it really take? What route did you take? Did you take I95 straight up or do you know a shortcut?

I am interested in visiting block island with a 6 month old, i would like to do short hikes, and maybe some shopping or biking, would it be a better idea to bring him in a backpack carrier rather than a jogging stroller?

| Rhode Island | Providence to Newport - mass transit Posted: Sun January 6, 2008 05:15 PM UTC
Does anyone know the cheapest or most intersting way to get between these two cities? I understand that Rhode Island isn't the most budget friendly state, but I'm looking to be surprised.

| Providence | dunkin donuts center Posted: Thu December 6, 2007 12:35 PM UTC
I was lucky (?) to get tickets for Hannah Montana for my 3 grandchildren. We will be coming from NH and I would like to get there early enough to get them a bite to eat first. Are there any kid friendly (pizza, burgers) places within walking distance of the center? Also, my husband is driving us but isn't coming to the show (lucky?), is there a coffee shop nearby where he can sit and read a book while he waits? Thanks!

| Providence | New Year's Eve in Providence for the over 50 crowd Posted: Sun November 25, 2007 04:02 PM UTC
A group of over 50's friends will be staying in Providence on New Year's Eve. We are a fun crowd looking for places to hang out, maybe dance or listen to some music. Are there any places where us oldies will not feel out of place?
We are not into dressing for the evening and enjoy our beer and wine. |

| Newport | Jamestown stay?????Please help! Posted: Sat September 22, 2007 12:43 PM UTC
I was able to get a last minute trade into the Jamestown Overlook
for October 6-13. I know I have to cross the bridge to get into Newport. I believe it is Oktoberfest in Newport that week. 1. How hard will it be to park in Newport day/evening? Are there discounted rates available at the Visitor's Bureau 2. Is there an easier way to get from Jamestown to Newport? 3. Is there anything of interest in Jamestown...shopping, restaurants? 4. Can I buy tokens for the bridge? We have stayed in Newport.....no timeshares available until December....the Overlook just popped up and I grabbed it. Thanks, Karen |

| Newport | One Day in Newport Posted: Fri July 27, 2007 10:17 PM UTC
Hi--we are going to visit Newport for one day next week and I have a couple of questions. Where do you recommend parking for the Cliff Walk? Are there places to picnic along the walk or is that discouraged? Are there any nearby sandwich places to get food for lunch along the walk? Can you recommend a good, moderately priced waterfront restaurant for dinner (we have 2 adults and 2 teens). Many thanks!!

My friend who lives in Mass is planning a bachelorette in Providence. She asked me to suggest a few places. All I could come up with was either the Complex or The Hot Club and Fish CO. Anyone out there have any other good suggestions?

| Providence | boston to providence transportation problem.. Posted: Mon April 2, 2007 12:59 AM UTC
Hi,
I'm flying to Boston and getting a train to Providence from there. My flight gets in at 6:30 and train leaves at 6:50, so unless the flight gets in very early, there's no chance of catching it. (how long does it take in a taxi from boston airport to backbay station?) second, I'm concerned as the next train after that does not get in until 9:50 - is it possible to catch a taxi from boston to providence and would this be expensive? otherwise is there anything in the local area of amtrak boston that I could do for a couple of hours (!) I would really appreciate advice to save a boring wait! I don't drive.. |

| Rhode Island | Rail or Car Hire? Posted: Sun March 25, 2007 08:27 PM UTC
Three of us travelling (with baggage) from Boston to Newport RI spending 3 days in and around the latter. Considering taking the train but not sure if we'd miss having our own transport in Newport? Presume we'd have to change at Providence and then get a bus to Newport? Not sure if the $ savings would be worth the hassle...
Any thoughts appreciated. |

| Newport | Newport for Thanksgiving -- suggestions please Posted: Thu November 9, 2006 04:22 AM UTC
Hi...my family is thinking about spending Thanksgiving in Newport. We've never been and always enjoy checking out places "out of season". My husband and I are mid-late 30's and our 2 boys are 1 and 3. We'd also like to bring our small dog. We need suggestions for all the details.
We plan to arrive Wed and leave Sat. Lodging: So far, considering Hotel Viking and Hyatt Regency. Are these good/wise choices? Differences between them? Others I should consider? Dining: Main concern is Thanksgiving. We'd like something traditional, fun, etc. Should we travel out of Newport or is there someplace good in town? Other fun kid-friendly options for the rest of the trip? Activity: We'd like a hotel with an indoor pool. I understand the outdoor Ice Skating Rink opens that weekend. Would be nice to see the Mansions or maybe just Astors Beechwood. Carriage rides available? Also would consider visiting a tree farm...I know some in New England will ship, but that may be more in VT, NH, etc. Suggestions for things to do with the kids? Babysitting: Any hotels/services that provide good child care for an evening out? Okay, please feel free to add anything you feel would be helpful. Forgive my naivete, as I mentioned, we've not been before. Also, we are considering (to avoid holiday traffic a bit) breaking the trip up and staying in the Darien/Bridgeport/Stamford area on Tues night before arrival and Saturday night on the way home. Any recommendations for affordable hotels? Thanks, Shari |

| Rhode Island | Quiet Beach Vacation for Baby Posted: Mon July 24, 2006 12:23 AM UTC
We're looking to take a post-Labor Day vacation to Rhode Island with our then 10-month-old. Block Island sounds nice - does it shut down the day after Labor Day? Any other places in RI we should be looking? We'd like a quiet area, on the beach or as close as possible to minimize schlepping, probably not a B&B since we have the baby, but would consider renting a cottage for the week. A hotel/motel would be fine too. Any suggestions? We don't have a fortune to spend, trying to keep under $100/night for accommodations. Thanks for any help!

Hi, Are there any restaurant (lunch) suggestions that offer vegetarian or vegan options between PVD airport in Warwick and Uxbridge, MA (I-295 & Rt 146)? I'd also be interested in a brick-oven or wood-fired pizzeria. Any suggestions would be most helpful.
Thanks! |
