I am planning to be in Islamabad from 26 August for 3 nights. We are family with my elderly mother and are looking for a ground floor 2-3 bedroom apartment. We will prefer an apartment rather then rooms. An apartment with living room, bedrooms, furnished kitchen and other facilities.

Islamabad Accomodation (Guest Houses)
Posted: Fri July 28, 2006 10:01 AM UTC
I believe there are some very good guest houses in Islamabad area. I was wondering if anyone can share some information about them and recommend some of the best ones there. Guest Houses closer to the Diplomatic Enclave would be the first preference.

Thanks for any insight anyone can provide.

Islamabad First trip to Pakistan : Arriving in Islamabad - questions, questions, questions!
Posted: Tue June 27, 2006 04:59 PM UTC
My first trip to Pakistan and I'm arriving in Islamabad next Tuesday. I'm seeking suggestions on :
- a reasonably priced guest house for a female travelling solo (I don't need fancy, just clean....and hey if there was a tv somewhere around that was showing the world cup even better!)
- transport from the airport - bus, taxi? cost?
- a shop,shopping/market area where I could buy a cheap shalwar kameez? (Or somewhere I could get one made?)

I'm really excited about visiting Pakistan!

Thanks

Islamabad Have been offered a job in Islamabad
Posted: Thu June 1, 2006 07:44 PM UTC
I have been offered a (very intersting) job in Islamabad. I will have to make up my mind within the next few weeks.

I am a woman in my early thirties and single.

What I am most worried about (dont ask me why I share this on the internet... ) is that the expat community is mostly families with kids and that I will have a hard time building up a no-kids-social circle. I love hiking and discovering pakistan is going to be fascinating but...

I would very much apprechiate honest answers and comments!!

Cheers

Islamabad Weekend break in Islamabad
Posted: Wed May 24, 2006 08:18 AM UTC
I plan to take weekend break of full day of Friday and Saturday in Islamabad. This visit will be my first visit to that city.

Any idea which interesting historical places or shopping places I can explore in only two weeks? Do you think it is better to pay a travel agent to organize my trip?

I want to use my time as interesting as possible as for the moment I am based in Kabul, Afghanistan and the situation is difficult for women to move around freely.

Islamabad short trip info
Posted: Sun March 19, 2006 10:26 PM UTC
Im planning to travel to islamabad for a week very soon (late march) and have a few questions.
Where is a good (mid-price, say under US$30-50) place to stay?
As a (white male) tourist, what should my safety concerns be?
Is there much anti-western sentiment and hostility, and if so, what is the best way to deal with it?
For some of the time i will be travelling with a british pakistani (female) friend - will this cause any issues?
Thanks for any advice.

Islamabad More Info re Life in Islamabad
Posted: Tue May 17, 2005 01:02 AM UTC
Hi,

I've found this site helpful but I still need some help. My family will soon be moving and living in Islamabad for about 3 years c/o my husband's new post at the UN in not-so-nearby Kabul, Afghanistan. Forgive my ignorance, but I have been unable to get the answers to these queries from my Islamabad websearch:

1. Are cars there left-hand or right-hand drive? Stick-shift or automatic?
2. Do women need a male escort or companion to stroll or drive around the city or to other cities?
3. Are there community public libraries?
4. What is the dominant language or dialect spoken in Islamabad? If my dughter and I wish to learn the language, are there many language schools ?

These are all for now, and I look forward to hearing from anyone in this forum .

Thanks so much,

Mylene

Hello vt'ers
We spent last christmas in Dubai and loved it so much we are going back again

Can anybody suggest the best hotel to stay in islamabad (top end) and if
this should be booked before we leave Uk. What about transfers to hotel?
Places to eat( we have two kids 11 and 8). I will want to travel to Jhelum for
one day, how much will a driver cost me for a day and can i trust them?. How is the weather in December?. My wife (she is white) is a little worried about going! can anybody reassure her (or should she be worried!!). I had some great tips from dubai VTs last year so i hope you can help out again.

Islamabad Relocating to Islamabad - HELP needed!
Posted: Fri March 25, 2005 09:43 AM UTC
I've been searching the internet trying to find some answers all morning now and am getting no where, so i am now hoping someone on here may be able to help.

To outline.... My husband has been offered a job in islamabad which we are considering. We were in the UK and aprox a year ago relocated to germany intending on staying a few years, however now we have an oppurtunity which is looking very attractive.... BUT, i have so many questions that need answering.

firstly, does anyone know of a site targeted at expats in islamabad/pakistan??

what is the life like in islamabad? What do people generally do with themselves?

are there many expats/foriegners living in islamabad?

Which are the nicest area's to live in? is there a common area where foriegners live? are there areas which should be avoided??

What is there in terms of english speaking playgroups/kindergardens etc? (i have a 14month old girl)

can someone shed some light on to taxation rules for pakistan please??? what % is deductible etc?

for now i think thats all..... if i think of anything else i'll come back here...

hoping SOMEONE out there can help us!

thanks

Noreen.
