Oklahoma Questions about Route 69
Posted: Sun August 30, 2009 05:28 AM UTC
Hi! I'm traveling to Texas later this summer, and am looking for a new route to try (just for something different.) I'm thinking of cutting through Oklahoma via route 69 (from I-40 down to the border.) Looks like it's about 130 miles - but anyone know the general speed limits? Looks like you pass through a few towns, so I'm sure it slows a little here and there. How fast can you do it in without a stop? 3 hours? Normally, I cross over to I-35 and head south, am I adding a ton of headache and nothing to look at with this change? Little kids on the trip, so I do have to be aware of time.

Thanks in advance!

Red Rock Canyon State Park how to get there from vegas
Posted: Wed November 5, 2008 12:49 AM UTC
We will be in Vegas in Feb. We would like to hike for a few hours in the red rock canyon park. I am wondering what the options are to get there besides renting a car or taking an expensive bus tour. Are there any shuttles that just go from the strip to the park. we don't need a guided tour, lunch, or free water bottles. We can do that on our own. Thank you for any hints!

Tulsa If Downtown is dead on the weekends, what about restaurants?
Posted: Thu October 2, 2008 03:28 PM UTC
If downtown is deserted on the weekend, as one member has suggested, then where do you eat?
I live near New Haven, CT and it is similar there and many places do not stay open for lunch on Saturday or Sunday, at all. What about Tulsa?
We will be staying at the Ambassador, but there were some places downtown of interest to us for dining.

Oklahoma City Parking for Amtrak
Posted: Tue May 6, 2008 11:21 PM UTC
I will be catching the Amtrak in June and need to leave my car in a safe place for about a week. The OKC convention bureau suggest at the Cox convention center, but the map looks confusing. How far is it to walk from parking at the convention center to the Amtrak station and would it be safe at night when I return? Thanks for the advice.

Oklahoma City Noodleing. Fishing, and other fun activities.
Posted: Thu April 3, 2008 08:47 PM UTC
I will be in Oklahoma city on May 16th-19th and parts south to north Texas.

I was wondering if someone here goes noodleing/bare fishing/tickling in any streams or rivers in that general area and would be willing to have a companion for an afternoon enjoying the hobby and a few beers?

I would LOVE to try this form of fishing and it would be better to meet fellow VT members cause of it and my learning curve and mysterious bite count would hopefully be lower.

Please let me know. Thanks Ken.

Oklahoma City Deep Deuce Club- Kallaz Band
Posted: Fri August 10, 2007 06:51 PM UTC
A couple years ago a really grat evening spot closed and I wonder if they relocated somewhere with a new name.

The club was the Deep Deuce Club or the Deep Deuce Jazz Cafe, not to be confused with the Deep Deuce Cafe. These are two distinct places. The Club i'm referring to was an African american owned and operated business that also catered to the African American Culture and music. It was a very nice and well run establishment with the exception of the patrons being too loud as they lfet the establishment at the end of the night.

Actually the club it'self was very nice. There was a dress code in order to enter on certain nights, REALLY GREAT FOOD, GREAT MUSIC, and friendly staff and clientel. The highlight of the establishment was the house band. I believe their name was the Kallaz band (of somethng to that effect). They are incredible musicians. It seems their marqui performances were on what they call Kareoke Night where partons could display thier tallents by singing or performing a song of thier choice...provided that the band knew the song. Trure to thir tallents the kallaz band usually did know the song (very well) and if they didn't know it they were most certainly familiar with it. and in the event someone pulled a song out of thier sleeve that no one knew they could certinly improvise it. To top it all off these guys were familiar with all kinds of musical generes.

Okay so my question... is anyone familar with this club and if so what happened to the place? If they didn't relocate then WHERE CAN I FIND THE KALLAZ BAND?

Tulsa Visit - now in February
Posted: Mon December 26, 2005 10:56 PM UTC
Hello all

Thank you for your advice on my last posting. I have checked out Tulsa members pages now and have an idea of some of the things I want to do when I get to Tulsa. I'm now coming February 12th - 18th approx.

I am looking for any good cheap suggestions for accomodation. I am on a scholarship and have to scrape my way around Tulsa - any hostels or small boarding houses?

I tried the journalplus thing on someone elses response but couldnt find it.

Thank you

Hugh
